Yes—Galaxy Buds2 Pro can automatically switch between a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet and a Galaxy Book. Samsung added the laptop support in firmware R510XXU0AXB4, which began rolling out on March 6, 2024. It is a Samsung ecosystem feature, not a promise of automatic switching with every Windows laptop or a Mac.
What the update changed
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds2 Pro firmware history lists “Auto switch Buds” in release R510XXU0AXB4, alongside improved PC connectivity and usability. The feature lets the earbuds move between supported Galaxy devices when activity—such as a phone call—calls for the other connection.
For example, you can listen to audio on a Galaxy Book and have the Buds switch to a paired Galaxy phone when a call arrives. When the call ends, you can resume laptop audio. The precise behavior depends on the devices and what is happening on them; this should not be read as unrestricted simultaneous audio from multiple devices or as generic Bluetooth multipoint.

Install the latest firmware offered for your earbuds; AXB4 is the minimum release identified with the laptop feature.

Samsung’s original firmware notes specify Galaxy phones or tablets with One UI 4.1.1 or later and Continuity Service 1.2.16 or later, plus a Galaxy Book with Samsung Settings 6.0.0 or later. Samsung’s current connected-experience information also describes Galaxy Book support in connection with One UI 6.0 and, on some systems, Samsung Continuity Service. Requirements can vary by model, region, and software build, so check the guidance for your particular Book rather than treating one version list as universal.
Samsung’s connected-device guidance calls for compatible devices to use the same Samsung account and have Bluetooth enabled; Wi-Fi may also be needed for connected services. The Buds should have been paired with the relevant devices at least once. How to update Galaxy Buds2 Pro
- Place both earbuds in their charging case.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the paired Galaxy phone or tablet and select Galaxy Buds2 Pro.
- Go to Earbuds settings > Earbuds software update.
- Tap Download and install if an update is offered, then follow the on-screen instructions until installation finishes.
Samsung rolled out AXB4 in phases, so availability was not necessarily simultaneous in every country. If the app says the earbuds are up to date, they may already have a newer release; check the displayed firmware version rather than looking only for the AXB4 label.
Prepare the Galaxy Book and test switching
Update Samsung Settings to version 6.0.0 or later, and update Samsung Continuity Service if your model or Samsung’s instructions require it. Use the Microsoft Store or the update tools supplied for your Galaxy Book to check Samsung apps and services. Names and update routes can differ across models, Windows versions, and regions.

- Sign in to the Galaxy Book and Galaxy phone or tablet with the same Samsung account, and turn on Bluetooth on both.
- Pair the Buds2 Pro with the Galaxy Book and with the phone or tablet at least once. Keep the earbuds out of the closed case when testing.
- Play audio on the Galaxy Book, then place or receive a call on the Galaxy phone. Check whether the Buds move to the phone for the call.
- End the call and resume playback on the Book. If audio does not return automatically, select the Buds2 Pro as the Windows output device and check that laptop audio is actually playing.
The firmware release also mentions stabilization code related to Auracast and device operation, but its headline practical change for laptop users is Auto Switch support.

- Confirm the model: These firmware details apply to Galaxy Buds2 Pro (SM-R510), not automatically to the standard Galaxy Buds2.
- Check software versions: Verify the Buds firmware, phone/tablet One UI and Continuity Service, and Galaxy Book Samsung Settings. Update Samsung apps and services where available.
- Check account and radios: Make sure both Galaxy devices use the same Samsung account and Bluetooth is on. Enable Wi-Fi if Samsung’s connected-service setup for your model calls for it.
- Pair directly with the Book: If Samsung Settings reports no paired Buds, pair them with Windows first, then reopen Settings. Keep the earbuds outside the closed case so the Book can detect them.
- Check Windows audio output: The laptop can remain paired while another output device is selected. Choose Galaxy Buds2 Pro in Windows sound output and start playback before testing return switching.
- Refresh connections: Restart the phone and Book, then disconnect and re-pair the earbuds if they connect but do not switch. Reset the earbuds only as a last resort; a reset removes saved pairing state and is not guaranteed to resolve every compatibility issue.
If the firmware update is not offered, the rollout may not have reached your region, or the Buds may already have a newer version. Confirm that Galaxy Wearable is updated and that the correct Buds2 Pro are selected. For a non-Galaxy Book laptop, manual Bluetooth device or audio-output selection is the realistic fallback; Samsung’s documented Auto Switch support does not establish compatibility with arbitrary computers.

Who benefits most?
The feature is useful if you already own Buds2 Pro, use a Galaxy phone, and work on a compatible Galaxy Book: the firmware adds the ecosystem behavior without requiring a new pair of earbuds. If your main computer is a Mac or a non-Samsung Windows laptop, do not buy the Buds2 Pro specifically for this feature. Look instead for earbuds whose maker explicitly supports cross-platform Bluetooth multipoint, and verify that support for your devices.
