You can capture a full webpage without paying or stitching together screenshots. Firefox and Microsoft Edge both document built-in full-page screenshot tools. Start with your browser’s native option; use Developer Tools or an extension if you need more control, editing, or export choices. For automated captures from code or AI agents, ScreenshotNeo is a separate API option.
Start with your browser’s built-in screenshot tool
Native tools are usually the simplest free choice: there is no extension to install, and both Firefox and Edge document ways to capture beyond the visible screen. The exact feature and its availability can depend on browser version, device, or market, so use the route that appears in your browser.
Firefox: save the full page as an image
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s screenshot tool also supports capturing the visible area, a selected region, or an automatically highlighted page element. Those choices are useful when you do not need the entire document. Mozilla Support describes the feature as capturing visible or full webpages and allowing the image to be copied or saved.
Microsoft Edge: capture, mark up, and save
In Edge, open the page context menu and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can capture a full page or select an area, then add markup and copy or save the result. Microsoft says the feature can keep moving content such as GIFs or carousels on screen during capture. Availability and functionality vary by device, market, and browser version, so the option may not look identical for every Edge user.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for a configurable capture
If you are comfortable with developer tools, Firefox offers a full-page route with more capture controls. The Web Console’s :screenshot helper accepts the --fullpage option to include content outside the current window bounds. Its documented options include a delay, device-pixel ratio, selector, filename, and clipboard output.
Enable the full-page screenshot button
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open the Developer Tools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page in the available toolbox-button options.
- Use that toolbox button to take the capture.
This is convenient if you prefer a visible control rather than entering a console command. The exact settings layout can vary by Firefox version.
Run the Web Console helper
Open the Web Console, enter :screenshot --fullpage, and run the command. Consult the Firefox Developer Tools documentation for the precise syntax of optional arguments supported by your installed version. A delay can help when a page needs time to finish rendering; a selector can target a particular element rather than the whole page.

When a free extension is worth considering
An extension can be useful when your browser’s built-in tool does not provide the editing, output format, or workflow you need. The reviewed products advertise combinations of scrolling capture, cropping, annotations, blur or pixelation, and PNG, JPEG, or PDF export. These are vendor descriptions, not independent compatibility or privacy tests; check the current store listing, permissions, and privacy policy before installation.
FullPage Capture
The Chrome Web Store listing describes scrolling capture, PNG/JPEG and PDF export, annotation, blur/pixelation, and local storage with no network activity. At the listing state reviewed, it showed version 1.9.50 and an update date of August 27, 2026. Features and privacy descriptions are publisher claims, and listings can change; verify the current details before relying on them.
OpenCapture
OpenCapture describes free capture, cropping, annotation, blur, undo, and PNG/PDF export for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, with no account required. Its site says processing happens locally. It also describes an optional tiled-watermark feature priced at $5 for 1,000 credits as shown when accessed. That optional purchase is not needed to use a free browser screenshot method.
OpenScreenShot
OpenScreenShot describes itself as free and open source under the MIT license, with full-page capture, annotation, export, and local processing. Its site lists installation paths for Chrome and Firefox and describes its permissions and local handling. Treat those as vendor statements, and review the current store listing and permissions before installing.

Choose the method that fits the page and the job
| Method | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox screenshot UI | A quick image, clipboard copy, or capture of a page region or element. | Whether the full-page option is available in your browser. |
| Edge Screenshot | A full-page or selected-area capture with markup before saving or copying. | Availability can vary by device, market, and browser version. |
| Firefox Developer Tools | A developer workflow needing full-page capture and controls such as delay, selector, or device-pixel ratio. | Console syntax and controls supported by your installed Firefox version. |
| Browser extension | Extra editing, export formats, or a workflow not covered by native tools. | Current browser support, permissions, privacy policy, and whether the advertised features work on your page. |
Page behavior matters as much as the tool. Long documents may contain lazy-loaded images that appear only as you scroll. Sticky headers can be repeated or positioned unexpectedly, and nested scroll areas may not be part of the document’s main page. Moving content can change between capture frames. Microsoft documents moving-content behavior in Edge; extension descriptions are not independent benchmarks for complex pages. Test the capture on the actual page if fidelity matters.
Privacy and permission checks
For a one-off capture, a built-in browser tool avoids adding an extension with its own permissions. Mozilla’s current support documentation says Firefox screenshot usage can collect interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the page URL or image details. The documentation also describes settings to disable technical and interaction data collection.
For an extension, distinguish what the developer claims from what you can verify. Before installing, read the current permission list and privacy policy, and decide whether the requested access makes sense for its capture features. A claim that processing is local is useful information to evaluate, but it is not an independent audit of the extension’s behavior.

The full-page option is missing
Check which browser and version you are using, and whether the feature is available in your device or market. In Firefox, try the documented screenshot shortcut or open Developer Tools and enable its entire-page screenshot toolbox button. In Edge, use the page context menu or shortcut and check whether Screenshot is available.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe bottom of the page is missing
Confirm you selected a full-page option rather than a visible-area or region capture. If the page loads content as you scroll, give it time to render and try again. For Firefox’s console workflow, the documented delay option may help pages that need extra time before capture.
Images, menus, or dynamic content are incomplete
Some pages populate images lazily or update while the screenshot is being made. Retry after the page has settled, or use a capture route with a delay where available. For moving content, compare the result with the live page; Edge’s documented behavior may help keep moving items on screen, but no method guarantees an identical frame for every site.

A sticky bar or nested panel appears incorrectly
Sticky elements and independently scrolling regions can behave differently from ordinary document content during a full-page capture. Try capturing only the relevant region or element if the browser offers that choice. If exact layout matters, test more than one method on the target page rather than assuming an extension’s advertised compatibility covers it.
An extension asks for broad access
Pause before granting access. Compare the permissions with the extension’s purpose, read its current privacy policy, and consider using the browser’s built-in tool instead. Vendor claims about local processing should not replace your own permissions review.

Frequently asked questions
Will a full-page screenshot preserve selectable text?
No. These browser screenshot workflows produce an image, so text in the saved capture is not ordinary selectable webpage text.
Can I use a screenshot as an accessible alternative to the webpage?
A screenshot alone is not a substitute for accessible page content: it may not expose text to assistive technology, and it does not preserve the page’s interactive controls.
