Canvas announced a $10 million Series A on January 29, 2025, to grow its software for turning mobile scans of real spaces into editable design files. The company was led by former Moz CEO Sarah Bird—not “Mox”—and has since rebranded as Twindo, expanding its pitch from scan-to-CAD tools to a broader platform for managing spatial information.
What happened in Canvas’s $10 million funding round?
Canvas announced the $10 million Series A on January 29, 2025. GeekWire reported that Trilogy Equity Partners led the round, with participation from Foundry Group, Acquired Wisdom Fund, GC&H Investments and Frontier VC. Some funding databases describe Trilogy and Foundry as co-leads, so Trilogy is best identified as the lead according to GeekWire rather than treating the classification as undisputed. The announcement did not itemize how the money would be spent. It was presented as backing for a fresh, software-focused phase of the business. Product development, growing the customer base and scaling that software operation are reasonable strategic implications, not disclosed budget allocations.

What does Canvas—now Twindo—do?
The practical job is to document an existing space and make that information useful in design or construction work. In the original Canvas workflow, a user captured a room or building with a compatible LiDAR-equipped iPhone or iPad. The scan could be reviewed, measured and annotated, then submitted for conversion into outputs such as an editable 3D CAD/BIM model, a 2D floor plan or a measurement report. Teams can also organize and share project information online.
Twindo’s current positioning broadens that workflow: a project can bring together scans, plans, photos, files and field notes as a shared spatial record. The company also offers “Invite to Capture,” which lets a customer ask a homeowner, subcontractor or field colleague to scan a location remotely. Twindo says its mobile and web experiences sync project information. These capabilities aim to keep information about a space accessible beyond the initial measurement visit; they do not make the app a substitute for every form of surveying or technical verification. Twindo lists outputs or workflows for SketchUp, Revit, Chief Architect, Archicad, Vectorworks, 2020 Design Live and AutoCAD. These are design and construction applications that can use captured existing-condition information; they are not all the same kind of product. SketchUp, Revit and AutoCAD, for example, are authoring or modeling tools, while Twindo focuses on capture, conversion and spatial project organization. Why Sarah Bird’s appointment mattered
Bird joined Moz in 2007 and spent about seven years as the SEO software company’s CEO. She helped lead Moz through its 2021 sale to iContact, then a subsidiary of J2 Global. She became Canvas CEO in April 2024, before the funding announcement.
Her significance was as an experienced software-company operator taking charge of a business with roots in 3D sensing and hardware—not as the founder or original inventor of Canvas. The available reporting traces the company’s lineage to Occipital and describes Bird as its CEO. (GeekWire)
From Occipital to Canvas to Twindo
- 2008: The business begins as Occipital, working on 3D sensing, virtual reality, hardware and related technology.
- 2022: It narrows its focus and relaunches as Canvas, centered on scanning spaces and producing professional models.
- April 2024: Bird becomes CEO.
- January 2025: Canvas announces its $10 million Series A.
- February 2026: Canvas becomes Twindo, with a broader spatial-intelligence platform positioning.
The move toward software did not mean abandoning real-world capture. Rather, the company’s stated direction was to focus on software and services around that capture—processing, conversion, project collaboration and usable CAD/BIM deliverables—rather than on building and selling specialized capture hardware. Who might use Twindo?
The strongest fit is for professionals who repeatedly need usable records of existing spaces: residential remodelers, interior designers, architects, design-build firms and construction teams. Facilities or property-management teams may also value a shared set of plans, scans, photos and notes. The original Canvas proposition was comparatively focused—scan a space and turn it into a model—while Twindo now describes a record that can support work across a space’s lifecycle.

A mobile scan can speed up documentation, but users should inspect coverage, measurements and converted files before using them to make consequential construction decisions. Twindo’s published pricing lists Starter at $0 per month for up to two projects monthly and Essentials at $29 per month for up to five. Conversion work is charged separately by area: listed standard 3D CAD/BIM conversion starts at $0.26 per square foot on Starter and $0.22 on Essentials; 2D floor plans are $0.18 and $0.14 per square foot, respectively. Minimum orders are $20 for 3D models or reports and $10 for 2D floor plans. Scale pricing is customized. Check the current pricing page before budgeting, since plans and rates can change.

Costs can add up when a project needs several output formats: formats are priced individually, and the minimum may matter on a small job. A rush request adds 20%, but Twindo says rush timing is not guaranteed. Commercial customers seeking custom file structures or different levels of development, such as LOD 100 or LOD 200, need to discuss requirements and pricing with the company. Important fit and accuracy limits
- Device compatibility: The scan-to-CAD workflow is centered on Twindo’s iOS apps and compatible Apple devices, including LiDAR-equipped iPhones and iPads. It is not an Android-first workflow.
- Third-party scanner data: As of February 5, 2026, Twindo says Scan to CAD supports scans captured through its own iOS apps, not arbitrary scans from third-party scanners. Confirm compatibility before assuming existing scanner files can be converted. (Twindo support)
- Capture quality: Occlusions, reflective surfaces, clutter, inaccessible areas or incomplete coverage can leave gaps or reduce the usefulness of the resulting model. Review the scan and deliverables.
- High-stakes work: Do not assume a mobile scan is a stamped survey, engineering document or legal record. A specialized surveying or industrial scanning requirement may call for a different workflow.
- Output and schedule: Confirm the required file format and level of development before ordering. Multiple formats add cost, and paying the rush fee does not guarantee a particular delivery date.
Twindo’s rebrand announcement said existing customer projects and workflows would continue without migration. For readers finding older Canvas coverage or documentation, the name change explains why current product pages use Twindo. The larger shift is from a focused mobile scanning and modeling product toward a shared spatial-data platform, while the original scan-to-CAD use case remains part of the story.
