FireDL codes are shortcuts to download URLs, not verified app listings—and there is no authoritative, current registry that guarantees a code still works or is safe. Compatibility also depends on your Fire TV’s operating system: Android APK workflows may work on Fire OS models, but Amazon’s 2026 Fire TV Stick HD runs Vega OS, so do not assume it supports FireDL or Android APK sideloading. For a compatible Fire OS device, Downloader by AFTVnews is the better-documented option; use a developer’s official URL whenever possible.
What FireDL is—and what a code does
FireDL is a third-party downloader name associated with entering numeric shortcuts to reach files or download pages. Those files are often Android application packages, or APKs. Installing an APK from outside the Amazon Appstore is commonly called sideloading; Amazon documents APK installation for Fire TV development, including through Android Debug Bridge (ADB) (Amazon’s Fire TV app installation documentation).
A code is essentially a shortcut to a URL. It is not a permanent app identifier, a security scan, or proof that the destination is the app publisher. Codes can expire, be reassigned, redirect elsewhere, or lead to files that are outdated, incompatible, unsafe, or unauthorized. The destination can also vary by region, device architecture, or app version.
FireDL should not be confused with Downloader by AFTVnews. Downloader has an identifiable developer and documented support for entering URLs and short codes, downloading files, and opening APKs. One example of how its code system works is an AFTVnews numeric code redirecting to a destination URL. That demonstrates the shortcut mechanism; it does not make every code or downloaded file trustworthy.

Are FireDL codes still working in 2026?
Some old codes or code-based instructions may still resolve, but there is no authoritative current FireDL code registry to establish which ones work. Third-party lists are snapshots, not guarantees: a code repeated across several sites can still be stale or point to an unverified download. Older guides may also describe a downloader without confirming that their APK or destination remains supported (example of older third-party instructions).
For that reason, this guide does not publish a purportedly “working” mass list. Without checking each redirect and file at publication time, naming codes would imply a level of verification that is not available. If an app’s developer publishes a current direct download URL, prefer it to a code. If you must use a code, resolve it first and inspect the destination before downloading.
Check your Fire TV’s operating system first
Fire TV products do not all run the same operating system. Amazon’s device table lists the 2026 Fire TV Stick HD as running Vega OS 1.1, while the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max run Fire OS 8 (Android 11). To identify your device, open Settings, then look for My Fire TV or Device & Software, and select About. Record the model name, generation, and software version. Menu labels vary, and not every current Fire TV product exposes the same developer or unknown-source controls. Amazon’s device table is the better reference for confirming the operating system.
Use Downloader on a compatible Fire OS device
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Find or search for Downloader.
- Check that the developer is AFTVnews, then install the listing through the Amazon Appstore if it is available for your model and region. Amazon’s standard process is to find an app, select it, and choose Get or the shopping-basket icon (Amazon Appstore instructions).
- Open the app and grant only the permissions needed for the download and installation task.
- Enter the developer’s full official URL if available. If using a short code, resolve it and check its destination domain before proceeding.
- Inspect the file name, publisher, and version. Install only if you can independently verify the source and that the APK is intended for your device.
- Delete the downloaded APK when you no longer need it.
Fire OS versions may require you to permit a particular app to install unknown apps before an APK can be opened. A commonly used Fire OS route to reveal developer options is Settings → My Fire TV → About, then selecting the device name seven times. The available controls and labels can differ by model and software version; do not treat this forum-described route as universal. Amazon also cautions that it does not guarantee the quality or safety of apps from unknown sources (Amazon forum guidance).
How to enter a code without trusting it blindly
- Open Downloader or the compatible downloader already installed on your Fire OS device.
- Select the URL or code field and enter the code exactly as published by the app’s developer or another source you trust.
- Choose Go, Download, or the equivalent option and wait for the destination to load.
- Check the resolved URL and domain. Stop if the page is unrelated, redirects unexpectedly, asks for unnecessary personal information, or offers a different file from the one you expected.
- Before installation, check the APK’s publisher, name, version, and device requirements. Compare a checksum only if the developer publishes one.
A successful redirect or download is not a safety verdict. If you cannot establish who published the file and why it is appropriate for your device, do not install it.

Safer routes, in order
- Amazon Appstore: Choose this when the app is listed for your device and region. It is the simplest installation path and integrates with Fire TV, though not every Android TV app is listed.
- The developer’s official download page: Prefer a direct link published by the app’s developer over a code copied from an unrelated list. It is easier to verify where the file comes from.
- Downloader by AFTVnews: A documented tool for URL and short-code downloads on supported devices. It moves a file; it does not authenticate the file or make an incompatible APK run.
- ADB for technical users: Amazon documents installing an APK from a computer with
adb install path/to/app.apk. To reinstall an app while retaining its data, the documented command isadb install -r path/to/app.apk. ADB is more technical and does not make an untrusted APK safe (Amazon’s ADB and installation documentation).
Why a code or APK may fail
The code does nothing
A typo, deleted or expired code, temporary redirect problem, network or DNS issue, or a mismatch between code systems can all cause failure. The code may be for Downloader rather than FireDL. Check the publisher’s own page for a current full URL, verify the network connection, and restart the app or device if the problem appears temporary. Avoid trying random replacement codes from unrelated sites.
The APK will not install
Possible causes include a Vega OS device, an APK requiring a newer Android version, the wrong processor architecture, an incomplete download, a conflicting signature from an existing app, or a package the device has blocked. Confirm the exact model and OS, then obtain the correct TV-compatible build from its official source and download it again if necessary. Use an Appstore version when available. Do not disable security protections indiscriminately, and uninstall an existing app only if you understand that its stored data may be lost.
The downloader is missing from the Appstore
Availability may depend on model, operating system, region, or a temporary listing issue. Search for the exact developer name, but check the device’s OS before trying any APK workaround. Prefer Amazon’s listing or the developer’s official support page; avoid lookalike apps from unrelated APK sites. If the device runs Vega OS, an Android APK workaround is not a sound assumption.

The code leads to a suspicious page, or the app is missing after installation
If the destination is suspicious, stop: do not install the file, enter credentials, grant unusual permissions, or follow instructions to turn off security protections. If a trusted app installs but is hard to locate, check Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications; Amazon documents this area for finding and launching installed apps, though wording varies by device (Amazon installation guidance).

A downloader is a transport tool, not a malware scanner or legal approval. Before installing an APK, consider its publisher, source, update history, permissions, privacy practices, device compatibility, and whether the app and the content or service it provides are authorized. Sideloading is not inherently illegal, and an app absent from the Appstore is not automatically unsafe; legality depends on the app, its source, its license, and how it is used.
Amazon says it can disable Fire TV apps identified as using or providing access to unlicensed content and may inform affected users and offer an uninstall option (Amazon’s Fire TV FAQ). A VPN does not verify an APK, establish a service’s authorization, or resolve device incompatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is FireDL the same as Downloader by AFTVnews?
