Android 16 is already a stable release, but there is no single Android 16 update date for every phone. Pixel devices follow Google’s schedule; Samsung delivers it through One UI 8; OnePlus uses OxygenOS 16; and other manufacturers set their own timelines. To find your answer, you need the exact model, country, carrier, and software version—not just the phone’s brand.
First, check whether your phone already has Android 16
Open Settings, then tap About phone or About tablet, followed by Android version. Depending on the manufacturer, this screen can show:
- Android version
- Android security update level
- Google Play system update
- Build number
These are separate updates. A security patch or Google Play system update does not necessarily mean that the phone has received a new Android version. Similarly, Android 16 may appear under a manufacturer’s name rather than as an update labelled “Android 16.”
For example, Samsung’s Android 16 software is called One UI 8, while OnePlus calls its release OxygenOS 16. Google’s official Android 16 documentation confirms that the platform is a released version, not merely a beta.

Some Pixel owners may be offered Android 17 without seeing a separate Android 16 prompt. Google began rolling Android 17 to supported Pixel devices in phases in June 2026, so do not assume that every major version must appear as an isolated update.
Check for the update manually
Google Pixel
- Open Settings.
- Tap System.
- Tap Software update.
- Review the status and follow the instructions if an update is available.
Connect to Wi-Fi and charge the phone to at least 75% before installing. The update becomes active after the phone restarts. Google says Pixel updates roll out gradually, and timing can vary by device and carrier. See Google’s Pixel update and support guidance.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
Look for One UI 8, rather than searching only for the words “Android 16.” Samsung’s One UI 8 support page lists eligible Galaxy devices, but availability still depends on the exact model, country, carrier, and rollout phase.
OnePlus
Open the phone’s software-update screen and check for OxygenOS 16. OnePlus says its updates are released in batches, so an eligible device may not receive the software at the same time as the same model in another country or on another carrier. Check the official OxygenOS 16 page.
Motorola
Use Motorola’s software-upgrade guide. Select the exact model, not just a family name such as “Moto G” or “Edge.” Closely related models, regional versions, and carrier variants can have different support.
Nothing
Nothing’s documented route is Settings > About phone > Software info. A red indicator appears next to the Nothing OS label when new software is available. Details are available in Nothing’s software-update instructions.
Other Android phones
For Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Sony, ASUS, OPPO, vivo, ZTE, and carrier-specific phones, check the manufacturer’s official support page or your carrier. Google directs owners of non-Pixel devices to those sources because Google does not control their rollout schedules.

Use Google’s live Android 16 device information before relying on this summary. Google identifies the Pixel 5a and earlier models as outside its current Android-version and security-update support, so they should not be expected to receive Android 16.
Which Samsung phones are eligible?
Samsung’s One UI 8 information includes many recent Galaxy devices, including models in the Galaxy S25, S24, S23, and S22 families; the Galaxy S21 FE; recent Z Fold and Z Flip phones; S24 FE and S23 FE; numerous Galaxy A-series models such as the A56, A54, A53, A36, A35, A26, A25, A17, A16, and A15; and recent Galaxy Tab devices.
This is not a universal worldwide list. Samsung’s regional pages can differ, and the same model family may contain separate carrier or country variants. Confirm the exact device on Samsung’s current One UI 8 eligibility page. Also, an eligible One UI 8 device may not receive every advertised Android 16 feature; hardware, language, region, and carrier can affect feature availability.
Why an eligible phone may not have received Android 16
An official eligibility listing does not mean that the update is available immediately. Common reasons for a delay include:

- Phased rollout: The manufacturer is expanding the release gradually.
- Carrier approval: A carrier-branded phone may require additional network testing.
- Regional firmware: The same model can receive different software in different countries.
- Model-number differences: 4G, 5G, unlocked, imported, and carrier variants may follow separate schedules.
- Storage or battery limitations: The phone may need temporary space or a higher charge level.
- Modified software: Root access, an unlocked bootloader, a custom ROM, or beta software can interfere with normal updates.
- A differently named package: Android 16 may be included in One UI 8, OxygenOS 16, or another manufacturer update.
- End of support: The phone may still work but no longer qualify for another Android version.
- Paused rollout: A manufacturer may temporarily withdraw an update after finding a serious bug.
Google says Pixel updates can take weeks to reach a particular device, while OnePlus says timing varies by device, country, and carrier.
How long should you wait?
There is no reliable universal waiting period. Classify your situation this way:
- Available now: The exact model is eligible and the update screen offers Android 16 or its manufacturer equivalent.
- Rolling out: The manufacturer has announced the release and lists your device, but delivery is still phased.
- Expected, but no confirmed date: The phone appears to be within its support period, but the manufacturer has not announced a schedule.
- Not confirmed: Only forums, leaks, or third-party lists mention the device.
- Unlikely or unsupported: The phone is outside its stated software-support period or is excluded from the official list.
If comparable phones on the same carrier and in the same country already have the update, verify your model number, carrier firmware, storage, and current build. If an official rollout window has passed, contact the carrier or manufacturer with those details.

What to do when the update does not appear
- Connect to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Charge the phone sufficiently.
- Free temporary storage space.
- Restart the phone.
- Check the software-update screen again.
- Install any offered security or Google Play system updates.
- Confirm that the exact model, region, and carrier version are eligible.
- If you use beta or modified software, return to the manufacturer’s supported software path where appropriate.
- Contact the carrier or manufacturer if an eligible phone repeatedly reports that it is up to date.
- Back up your data before attempting advanced recovery.
A factory reset should not be an early troubleshooting step. It generally will not make an unsupported phone eligible and can erase your data.

Should you install Android 16 manually?
For most owners, no. Use the normal over-the-air update route. Google provides OTA images and factory images mainly for developers, testing, recovery, and advanced users.
Manual installation can require bootloader changes, may erase user data, and can create update or support problems if the image is for the wrong model or region. Back up your phone and follow Google’s official documentation only if you understand those risks. Do not flash a build merely to bypass a normal regional rollout delay.
If your phone is not eligible
Continue using the latest supported security update if the phone still receives one, and check whether the manufacturer offers an extended-support program. Android-version support and security-patch support are separate: a phone may stop receiving major upgrades while continuing to receive security fixes for some time.
If security updates have also ended, replacing the phone is the safer long-term option. Unofficial ROMs can extend the life of some devices, but they may involve bootloader changes, data loss, banking-app problems, warranty complications, and ongoing maintenance. They are not a simple substitute for an official update.
