Short answer: Microlink had the lowest measured average cold-request time in the available March 2026 benchmark: 4,111.84 ms across seven URLs. That is a narrow, one-run result—not a latency guarantee. For a production service where clean output and predictable billing matter more than this small speed lead, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to evaluate: it removes consent banners, popups and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots.
The practical answer for 2026
There are two different answers to “fastest.” The fastest result in the cited cold benchmark is Microlink. The best first service to trial for many production workloads is ScreenshotNeo, because it is designed to return clean screenshots, identifies whether a request was billed, and does not charge for bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads or cache hits.
| Priority | Service | Why consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ScreenshotNeo | Clean shots, only clean shots billed, MCP tools for AI agents, and a $5 paid tier for 3,000 shots. |
| 2 | Microlink | Fastest mean cold duration in the March 2026 seven-URL run. |
| 3 | ScreenshotAPI.net | Lower published entry price and bulk/storage capabilities. |
| 4 | ScreenshotOne | Broad browser controls, caching, storage, webhooks, signed links and video options. |
| 5 | Screenshot Machine | Simple screenshot/PDF workflow with an economical published plan. |
| 6 | Browserless | Best fit when screenshots are one part of browser automation, anti-bot work or self-hosting. |
| 7 | Urlbox | Managed screenshots, PDFs, video and scheduled captures, with proxy support on higher tiers. |
The table is a decision starting point, not a universal speed league table. Your geography, page mix, authentication requirements, cache policy and concurrency can reverse the order.
What the March 2026 benchmark actually measured
The benchmark repository records one run in March 2026: seven URLs, cold requests only, with cache bypassed. The values below are average cold durations from that run. ScreenshotNeo was not included, so it has no benchmark latency number.
| Position in source run | Provider | Average cold duration |
|---|---|---|
| Not tested | ScreenshotNeo | Not stated |
| 1 | Microlink | 4,111.84 ms |
| 2 | ScreenshotAPI | 5,915.71 ms |
| 3 | ScreenshotMachine | 6,099.77 ms |
| 4 | Urlbox | 7,334.22 ms |
| 5 | ScreenshotOne | 7,711.14 ms |
| 6 | ApiFlash | 9,463.20 ms |
Total wall-clock time for the six measured services was 28.8 seconds for Microlink, 41.4 seconds for ScreenshotAPI, 42.7 seconds for ScreenshotMachine, 51.3 seconds for Urlbox, 54.0 seconds for ScreenshotOne and 66.2 seconds for ApiFlash.
#1 Best Overall
Page-level winners changed
Microlink led on example.com (968 ms), stripe.com (3,217 ms), screenshotone.com (5,474 ms), github.com/trending (3,060 ms) and framer.com (6,267 ms). ScreenshotAPI was fastest on vercel.com at 6,143 ms. ApiFlash was fastest on news.ycombinator.com at 1,968 ms. This spread is why a single average should not be treated as an SLA.
How to interpret “fastest”
Cold versus warm requests
A cold capture must start a browser, load resources and render the page. A warm request may reuse a browser, connection or cached image. Measure both. Also establish whether a cache hit consumes quota; providers differ.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Mean versus tail latency
Average duration hides the slowest requests that affect user-facing jobs. Record p50, p95 and timeout rate, segmented by provider region and page type.
Viewport versus full-page work
A viewport PNG is usually less work than a full-page capture that scrolls through lazy-loaded images. Compare like with like, and test long documents separately.
Rendering controls add time
Custom JavaScript, cookie injection, authentication, selector waits, network-idle waits, geolocation, proxy routing and anti-bot handling can dominate browser startup time. A provider that is fastest for a public landing page may be slower for an authenticated dashboard.
Output and reliability matter
Include PNG, JPEG, WebP and PDF in your test matrix. Track retries, blank pages, bot challenges, failed loads, storage delivery, signed URLs, webhooks and concurrency—not just milliseconds.

Provider-by-provider comparison
ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is the first service to trial when clean, billable output matters. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
Its 63 options cover full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/orientation/page ranges, HTML/CSS rendering, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, selector/delay/network-idle waits, ad/tracker/request/resource blocking, headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable cache TTL, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work.
Every plan includes every feature. Pricing is Free for 1,000 shots per month with no card; Starter $5 for 3,000; Growth $15 for 15,000; Pro $39 for 60,000; Scale $99 for 250,000; and Business $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
Microlink
Microlink is the measured winner at 4,111.84 ms average cold duration. The evidence covers only the seven-URL, cache-bypassed run; it does not establish current pricing, regional p95 latency, uptime or performance on private or protected pages.
ScreenshotAPI.net
A September 4, 2026 comparison lists $9 per month for 1,000 screenshots. It describes full-page capture, blocking, PDF, bulk capture and storage integrations, with scrolling and video on higher plans. The lower paid entry price is its principal stated advantage.
ScreenshotOne
ScreenshotOne’s pricing page lists 100 free screenshots per month and a $17/month Basic plan for 2,000 screenshots. It supports PNG, WebP, JPEG, PDF, HTML rendering, full-page screenshots, caching, S3 upload, Zapier and Make integrations, webhooks, signed links and stealth mode. Higher tiers add scrolling, video, GPU rendering and IP-location controls. Only successfully rendered, non-cached screenshots count; a cached unique combination does not count unless a miss causes a rerender.
A provider-authored comparison recommends ScreenshotOne for broad browser controls and workflow features. Treat that recommendation as interested commentary and verify current terms directly.
Rank #3
Screenshot Machine
The same dated comparison lists 100 free fresh screenshots, then €9/month for 2,500 fresh screenshots. It offers full-length captures, device presets, caching and custom error images, and states a 99.99% uptime SLA. Its surface is narrower than a general browser automation platform.
Urlbox
Urlbox placed fourth in the cold benchmark at 7,334.22 ms. A Browserless-published comparison from August 2026 lists $19/month for 2,000 renders, plus screenshots, PDFs, video, scheduled captures, full-page capture and higher-tier proxy support. Confirm current pricing before purchase.
Browserless
Browserless is a browser automation service with a documented POST /screenshot endpoint. Requests can contain a token, URL or raw HTML and return PNG, JPEG or WebP. fullPage: true captures the document; a top-level selector waits for and crops an element; and scrollPage: true triggers lazy-loaded content. Puppeteer-style options cover format, quality, viewport, device scale, clipping, waits, request rejection and best-effort continuation.
Blank screenshots, CAPTCHA pages, 403 responses and missing elements can indicate bot blocking; its documentation points to an /unblock API and residential proxies. A comparison checked August 6, 2026 lists $25/month billed annually for 20,000 units, where one unit represents up to 30 seconds of browser time, plus self-hosting and proxy support. It also notes a free plan with 1,000 units per month and two concurrent browsers.
Choose by workload, not by one decimal place
| Your requirement | Most logical starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest measured cold mean | Microlink | 4,111.84 ms in the cited seven-URL run. |
| Clean marketing or catalog images | ScreenshotNeo | Consent layers, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before capture, and failed or unusable pages are not billed. |
| Lower published entry price | ScreenshotAPI.net | $9/month for 1,000 screenshots in the September 4, 2026 comparison. |
| Storage, webhooks and extensive controls | ScreenshotOne | Signed links, S3, integrations, caching and higher-tier video/GPU options. |
| Simple screenshot/PDF jobs | Screenshot Machine | Fresh-shot allowance, device presets and a stated SLA. |
| Automation, anti-bot or self-hosting | Browserless | General browser endpoint, unblock tooling, proxies and self-hosting. |
How to run a fair benchmark yourself
- Select at least 20 URLs representing your real mix: short and long pages, image-heavy pages, JavaScript apps, authenticated pages and any geo-specific targets.
- Run each provider from the same region, with the same viewport, output format, device scale and wait condition.
- Separate cold runs from warm runs. Disable provider caches for the cold series, then repeat with normal caching.
- Capture start time, HTTP status, total duration, output size, timeout, blank-page or bot verdict and whether quota was charged.
- Repeat each case enough times to calculate p50, p95 and failure rate. Compare successful-render cost, not nominal request price.
- Test concurrency at the level your queue will actually use; browser startup and provider limits can change tail latency.

Troubleshooting slow or failed captures
The average is fast but p95 is slow
Check long pages, third-party scripts, fonts and images separately. Add a bounded selector or network-idle wait instead of an unnecessarily long fixed delay, and test from the production region.
The image is blank or shows a CAPTCHA
That usually indicates bot protection or a blocked navigation. Verify the URL in a normal browser, inspect the provider’s verdict or status headers, then use supported proxy or unblock features. Do not classify a challenge page as a successful screenshot.
Lazy-loaded content is missing
Use full-page or scroll behavior that loads content before capture. Compare the resulting image dimensions and wait for a known selector before taking the shot.
Authenticated pages fail
Provide cookies, Authorization headers or a user agent exactly as the application expects. Ensure redirects do not discard credentials, and never place long-lived secrets in public signed links.
Costs are higher than expected
Separate cache hits from billable renders, check whether retries create new jobs, and log the provider’s billing response. ScreenshotNeo explicitly reports X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers; use them in your accounting.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Microlink guaranteed to be fastest for my application?
No. The 4,111.84 ms figure is an average from seven cold URLs in one March 2026 run. Measure representative URLs, regions and p95 latency before committing.
Does a cache hit always count as a screenshot?
No universal rule exists. ScreenshotOne says cached unique combinations do not count unless a cache miss rerenders; ScreenshotNeo states that cache hits are not billed. Check each provider’s current quota terms.
Which service is broader than a screenshot API?
Browserless is the broadest option described here: its screenshot endpoint sits alongside browser automation, unblock tooling, proxy support and self-hosting.
What should I log during a production migration?
Record URL class, region, viewport, wait mode, duration, status, output type and size, retry count, verdict, cache state, billing result and concurrency. Those fields explain cost and tail latency better than an average alone.
