“FaceFlex” appears to be a mistaken name for FlexTime, a 2019 browser-based prank that simulated a FaceTime-style call with celebrities. It created a staged call screen for screenshots or social posts; it did not connect anyone to a celebrity, access Apple’s FaceTime service, or create a genuine video call.
Is FaceFlex a real iPhone app?
There is no reliable evidence that “FaceFlex” was the official name of an App Store application. The strongest historical report, published by KnowTechie on May 30, 2019, calls the project FlexTime. The word “FaceFlex” appears in that article’s URL, which likely caused later articles and posts to treat it as the product name.
That report described FlexTime as a mobile-browser web app. Users were directed to FlexTime.co, rather than to an iPhone or Android app store listing. In this context, “app” means a browser experience, not necessarily a native download.
| Name | What can be established |
|---|---|
| FaceFlex | Not verified as the official product name; probably derived from the article URL or later mislabeling. |
| FlexTime | The name used in the 2019 coverage. |
| FlexTime.co | The historical destination reported at the time; current operation is unverified. |
| Fake FaceTime app | A description of a category, not proof of a particular official app. |
What was FlexTime?
FlexTime was a novelty simulation designed to make a user appear to be receiving a FaceTime call from a famous person. The contemporary report attributed the project to Daniel Greenberg, then described as head of MSCHF Internet Studios.

The reported experience included a FaceTime-like interface, celebrity selections, and a front-camera inset so the user could appear inside the call screen. It was intended for a screenshot or social-media post that looked like “proof” of a celebrity call—not for communication.
Historical celebrity choices
The 2019 article gave Cardi B, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, and Maisie Williams as examples and said the tool offered roughly 20 celebrity options. That roster is historical; it should not be treated as a current list or evidence that those people participated.
How convincing was the mock-up?
The report noted details intended to sell the illusion, including rounded-corner camera framing, a simulated status bar, and a deliberately low battery percentage. It also observed that the camera inset slightly overlapped the top information bar, an imperfection consistent with a visual gag rather than a faithful Apple interface recreation.

Was it a real FaceTime call?
No. FlexTime simulated the appearance of a call. It did not contact a celebrity, connect to another person’s camera, intercept FaceTime, or reveal a private conversation.
These terms describe different things:
- UI simulation: a screen made to resemble a call interface.
- Prerecorded video: a clip played inside a fake incoming- or active-call screen.
- Actual FaceTime: Apple’s real calling service, which connects participants.
- Face replacement or deepfake media: manipulated video that can falsely show someone’s appearance; this is separate from a simple call-screen mock-up.
Apple’s documentation says its FaceTime URL scheme launches the genuine FaceTime app and starts a call to a phone number or email address: Apple’s FaceTime links reference. That mechanism does not generate a fake call screen.
Does FlexTime still work?
Its current status is unverified. The available description dates from 2019 and does not establish that FlexTime.co still resolves, that the experience is maintained for current iPhones, or that any similarly named site is operated by the original creators.

Do not assume that a page advertising a “FaceFlex download” is the historical project. A copycat may use the name while adding redirects, unwanted downloads, or credential prompts. The original project’s archive status, privacy practices, data collection, and exact current celebrity roster are also not established.
Current ways to make a fake video-call effect
Modern tools serve similar entertainment purposes but are separate products. Choose based on whether you need a quick simulated call, a polished video, or an actual conversation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Option | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated prank-call app | A countdown, simulated incoming call, or prerecorded caller video with minimal setup. | Often advertising-supported, less customizable, and not a live call. |
| Video-editor template | Short-form videos for TikTok, Reels, or similar platforms with control over timing and text. | Requires editing and may include platform branding; it does not route FaceTime. |
| Browser mock-up | A quick still image or simple visual without installing an app. | Interactivity and trustworthiness vary, and the original FlexTime site is not confirmed. |
| Real video-call service | Genuine communication through FaceTime, Google Meet, Zoom, WhatsApp, or another service. | It is not a prank simulator and requires real participants. |
Android fake-call example
Google Play currently lists a separate product called Fake Video Call, Prank Dial. Its listing describes simulated calls and prerecorded celebrity-style videos, identifies the app as containing ads, and displayed 1M+ downloads in the referenced store result. Store figures and app behavior can change. Nothing in that listing establishes a connection to FlexTime.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to evaluate a replacement safely
- Confirm the platform: iPhone, iPad, Android, browser, or editing software.
- Identify the output: incoming-call animation, prerecorded video, screenshot, or edited clip.
- Check permissions: a visual prank normally should not require contacts, Apple ID access, payment credentials, or unrelated device controls.
- Watch for advertising and redirects: aggressive pop-ups, forced downloads, and repeated app-store jumps are warning signs.
- Review privacy terms: understand whether the tool uploads camera footage, recordings, contacts, or imported photos.
- Look for watermarks and costs: free templates or installs may still include ads, subscriptions, in-app purchases, or export branding.
- Check likeness and consent: recognizable people, children, strangers, or private footage create higher privacy and reputational risk.
Prank boundaries and posting advice
Keep a staged call harmless and make its status clear when sharing it publicly. Do not use a fake call to impersonate someone for financial gain, harassment, fraud, or reputational damage, or to evade an emergency, workplace, school, or legal responsibility. Avoid entering Apple passwords, payment details, or private messages into any site claiming to “activate” a FaceTime trick.
A screenshot that looks authentic can be misunderstood as a real relationship or endorsement. Labeling it as staged is especially important when it includes a real person’s likeness or someone who did not consent.
Bottom line
“FaceFlex” most likely refers to FlexTime, the 2019 browser prank reported as a fake celebrity FaceTime experience. It was a visual simulation, not a FaceTime hack or a genuine call. The original site’s availability in 2026 is unconfirmed. Current prank-call apps and CapCut templates can produce similar effects, but they are separate tools and should be judged by their permissions, advertising, privacy practices, and intended use.
