If Microsoft Store shows 0x8013153B when you open it, first check that you copied the code correctly: similar-looking Store errors such as 0x80131500 are not interchangeable. Microsoft’s published guidance for a Store that will not open does not assign a specific cause to 0x8013153B. Start with the low-risk fix Microsoft recommends: run wsreset.exe. If that does not help, repair or reset the Store app, then check Windows updates, network access, account scope and organization policy.
Check the code and when the error appears
Read the full code from the error screen again, or take a screenshot so you can compare it character by character. Check especially whether it is 0x8013153B or 0x80131500. Microsoft community discussions commonly address 0x80131500, but that does not establish that the codes mean the same thing. Microsoft’s Store-won’t-open guidance covers the symptom without identifying 0x8013153B as a specific diagnosis.
Also note what you were doing when the error appeared:
- Opening Microsoft Store: follow the launch and app-repair steps below.
- Signing in: check whether the Store opens before treating the problem as an account or authentication failure.
- Downloading or updating an app: investigate connectivity, service access and policy as well as the Store app itself.
- Opening Xbox, Gaming Services or another Microsoft app: record which app fails; a similar-looking code does not guarantee the same cause.
Do not assume this code proves the Store cache is corrupt, or that DNS, your account or Windows itself is at fault. The steps below are practical troubleshooting for the failure, not a confirmed explanation of this particular code.

Try these quick checks first
- Restart Windows. A restart can clear a temporary app or service problem.
- Confirm you are online. Open an ordinary website, and complete any sign-in page shown by a public or workplace network.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN. If the Store then opens, check the VPN or network configuration rather than leaving a protection or work connection disabled.
- Check date, time, time zone and region. Incorrect settings can interfere with service connections. Use the correct settings for your location; do not change your region simply to bypass availability rules.
- Install pending Windows updates. In Windows 11, open Settings > Windows Update. In Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Restart if prompted.
These checks are useful for similar Store failures, but none is a verified code-specific fix for 0x8013153B.
1. Clear the Store cache with wsreset.exe
Microsoft recommends resetting the Store cache when Microsoft Store will not open. This is a cache reset, not a full Store reinstallation, and it will not necessarily resolve an account, network, policy or package-registration problem.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand press Enter. - Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to finish. Microsoft Store should open automatically.
- If it does not open, try launching it from Start, then restart Windows and test once more.
If the command does nothing, closes immediately, displays another error or leaves the Store unusable, do not keep repeating it. Move on to app repair.

2. Repair Microsoft Store, then reset it if needed
On current Windows versions, go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Find Microsoft Store, select its three-dot menu, then select Advanced options. Choose Repair and test the Store. If it still fails, return to the same screen, choose Reset and confirm.
Windows 10 may instead show Apps & features in Settings. Select Microsoft Store there and open Advanced options. Labels, screen layout and available options vary by Windows version, edition and app state; some devices may not show every option.
- Repair attempts to fix the app while retaining its data, where supported.
- Reset clears app data and refreshes the app. You may need to sign in again or restore preferences.
Reset is more disruptive than Repair, so try it only if Repair does not work. Microsoft explains the distinction for MSIX apps in its Reset or Repair documentation.

3. Check Windows updates and Store updates
Install available Windows updates and restart. If Microsoft Store opens afterward, check its Library or update area for Store and app updates. Windows 10’s standard support for free software updates, technical assistance and security fixes ended after October 14, 2025; specialized editions or support arrangements may differ. A Windows 10 PC can still run, but an unsupported installation may miss fixes and security updates.

4. Find out whether the network or account is involved
Microsoft Store operations require access to Microsoft services, including Windows Update-related endpoints. A browser may work even when a VPN, proxy, firewall, DNS filter or restricted network blocks a service the Store needs. Microsoft documents endpoint and policy considerations in its Store app troubleshooting guidance.

- Try another network, such as a phone hotspot, as a temporary test. If the Store works there, investigate the original network or its administrator’s restrictions.
- Check for an unintended proxy: open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy and review any manual proxy setting. Do not change settings required by your employer or school.
- Check related services: see whether Windows Update, Xbox or Gaming Services, or Microsoft account sign-in also fails. Several failures together can point toward connectivity, service access or device policy rather than just the Store app.
- Test another Windows account, if available. If the Store fails for every account, a system-wide, network, policy or package issue is more likely. If it fails only for one account, the problem may be that profile’s Store data or sign-in state. A temporary account is a diagnostic, not a reason to abandon your existing profile.
Avoid changing DNS servers as a first-line fix. Community suggestions to use particular public DNS addresses are not a current Microsoft standard and may conflict with workplace, school, parental-control or ISP settings. Test another network first. If you do make a DNS change as a diagnostic, record the original setting and restore automatic DNS if it does not help.
5. Check whether an organization disabled the Store
On a work or school PC, Microsoft Store may be disabled by Group Policy, Intune or another device-management rule. If the Store is intentionally blocked, repair or re-registration commands are not an appropriate workaround. Contact your organization’s IT administrator and ask whether Store access is restricted. Microsoft’s guidance for Store failures covers policy and managed-device considerations.

6. Use PowerShell re-registration only as an advanced fallback
Some Microsoft Q&A replies for similar Store errors suggest removing and re-registering the Store package. These are community suggestions, not the first-party procedure on Microsoft’s Store-won’t-open support page. Package paths and registration behavior vary, commands can fail, and removing the package can make recovery harder. Do not try this on a managed PC without administrator approval, and do not copy commands from an untrusted “fix” site.

Only consider package re-registration after the cache reset, Repair, Reset, Windows updates and network checks have failed, and only if you understand PowerShell and the command’s effect. If you proceed, use an elevated PowerShell window only as required by the instructions you are following, and make sure important data is backed up. There is no universal command that can be promised to fix this code; wildcard package paths may not match your installation. If a command reports an error or the Store disappears, stop rather than trying more removal commands, and seek help from Microsoft Support or a qualified administrator.
When to escalate
If the Store still will not open, use this order to narrow down the problem:
- Confirm the exact code and whether the failure is on launch, sign-in, download or update.
- Test another network and, if possible, another Windows account.
- Check whether Windows Update and other Microsoft services fail too.
- Ask an administrator about policy if the PC is managed.
- Use the built-in Repair and Reset options before considering package-level changes.
- If the Store is missing, fails across accounts and networks, or other Windows components are also broken, contact Microsoft Support or consider a Windows repair installation.
A full Windows reset is a last resort, not a Store-specific first fix. Back up important files and understand the reset options before proceeding. Microsoft’s general troubleshooting guidance places broader recovery after ordinary app troubleshooting.
