The redesigned Rename this PC and Date and time dialogs were hidden experiments for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25201, not a supported upgrade for every Windows 11 PC. On a compatible Build 25201-era Dev Channel installation, community-reported ViVeTool feature IDs can enable them; on current or stable builds, the same commands may do nothing or may not apply.
What the redesigned dialogs change
The experiment affects two controls: Rename this PC and Date and time. Community coverage described them as newer Windows 11-style dialogs that better followed the system’s light or dark appearance, replacing older-looking interfaces. It does not redesign all of Settings or every legacy Windows dialog, add computer-name features, or change time synchronization and time-zone behavior. The feature IDs and appearance were reported by community sources, not documented as a supported feature in Microsoft’s Build 25201 announcement (community coverage; Microsoft’s Build 25201 announcement).
Check whether your Windows build is suitable
The target was Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25201, released to the Dev Channel on September 14, 2022. The dialog experiment was not listed as a supported feature in Microsoft’s announcement. Microsoft also cautioned that Dev Channel features may change, be removed, or never reach general release. The instructions below are therefore historical and build-specific, not a claim of compatibility with Windows 11 22H2, 23H2, 24H2, or later releases.

- Run: Press Windows key + R, enter
winver, and select OK.
These feature IDs were identified for a particular development period. ViVeTool’s documentation explains that feature availability depends on Windows build metadata and can differ between builds (ViVeTool’s feature-toggle notes). A nearby build is not automatically compatible.
Before enabling the flags
- Use this procedure only if you are deliberately testing an Insider build and have a backup or recovery plan. A spare PC or virtual machine is a better test target than a computer needed for critical work.
- ViVeTool is a third-party utility, not a standard Windows setting or Microsoft-supported consumer customization tool. Get it from the official ViVeTool project and its releases page, not a download aggregator.
- Choose the release variant for your device architecture, including ARM64 where applicable. Managed PCs may block third-party tools or elevated commands.
- You need administrator access. Extract the archive to a dedicated folder such as
C:ViveTool; do not place it inSystem32.
Enable the dialogs on a compatible build
- Download the appropriate ViVeTool archive from the official releases page and extract it to
C:ViveTool(or note the folder you chose). - Open Windows Terminal (Admin), PowerShell (Admin), or Command Prompt (Admin), then approve the User Account Control prompt. If your folder path contains spaces, put quotation marks around the executable path.
- Run these historically reported commands one at a time, replacing the path if you extracted ViVeTool elsewhere:
C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /enable /id:39811196 C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /enable /id:38228963 C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /enable /id:36390579 - Restart Windows. Community instructions reported a restart as part of applying the flags (historical command procedure).
- After reboot, check Settings > System > About > Rename this PC and Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
The IDs correspond, respectively, to the Date and time dialog (39811196), Rename this PC dialog (38228963), and a master or activation feature reported as required by the other two (36390579). The mapping comes from community feature tracking, not a Microsoft feature list (community ID mapping).

If the dialogs do not change
An accepted command does not prove that the underlying interface exists or is active in your build. Check these likely causes before trying anything else:

The IDs were reported for Build 25201-era development builds, not as universal Windows 11 switches. - Feature absent or superseded: A later build may have removed the flag, changed the implementation, or replaced the dialog another way. An older ID may be irrelevant even if ViVeTool accepts it.
- Flag or restart incomplete: Confirm all three commands ran and restart Windows rather than only closing Settings.
- Permissions or path problem: Ensure the terminal was opened as administrator, the executable path is correct, and the ViVeTool archive matches the device architecture.
Some ViVeTool versions support querying feature state with C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /query. Syntax and capabilities have changed across releases, so consult the documentation for the version you installed rather than assuming this historical command is supported everywhere (ViVeTool releases). A query result still cannot guarantee a visible or functional interface if the relevant code is absent.

Disable the flags to attempt a rollback
To reverse the corresponding configuration, open an elevated terminal and run:
C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /disable /id:39811196
C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /disable /id:38228963
C:ViveToolViveTool.exe /disable /id:36390579Restart Windows afterward. These are the matching disable commands, not a Microsoft-supported uninstall procedure, and they cannot be guaranteed to restore every system to its exact previous state. Removing the ViVeTool executable by itself does not necessarily undo feature configuration. If behavior remains unreliable, reboot again and use ViVeTool reset functionality only if the installed release supports it; for persistent instability, use Windows Recovery or restore a system image. Avoid further flag changes on a machine whose Settings, Explorer, or sign-in behavior is affected.

Should you use this on current Windows 11?
Not as a general stable-channel tweak. The original procedure targeted a 2022 Insider build. On a current installation, the IDs might be ignored, produce an error, be accepted with no visible result, or refer to code that no longer exists. Use the normal Settings pages for routine changes: Settings > System > About > Rename this PC and Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Consider ViVeTool only when testing a build in which the relevant flags are known to exist and you can recover from experimental behavior.
