Desktop Stickers are officially documented for Windows 11 SE, version 22H2 and later. On other Windows 11 editions, the commonly shared Registry tweak targets an older hidden or experimental implementation and may not work on current Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education builds. Check your edition and build first, then use the supported SE workflow or treat the Registry method as an unofficial, reversible experiment.
What Desktop Stickers are
Desktop Stickers are decorative graphics placed directly over the desktop wallpaper. You can select, arrange, move, resize, and customize them without using a separate window. Microsoft says Windows 11 SE includes more than 500 education-friendly stickers and keeps them associated with the desktop when the background changes: Microsoft’s Windows 11 SE documentation.
They are not desktop icons, Windows Widgets, emoji-panel stickers, animated wallpapers, third-party wallpaper software, or Windows virtual desktops. Virtual desktops are separate workspaces managed through Task View or Windows + Tab; see Microsoft’s virtual-desktop guide.

| Windows edition or status | What is established | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 SE 22H2 and later | Officially documented by Microsoft | Use the normal Settings and desktop workflow. |
| Windows 11 Home | A Registry workaround was reported for older builds; current support is not guaranteed. | Only try the unofficial method after backing up the Registry. |
| Windows 11 Pro | Microsoft’s current Stickers policy table does not list Pro as supported. | Do not assume an older tutorial applies. |
| Windows 11 Enterprise or Education | Being a school or business edition does not establish support. Windows 11 Education is not the same product as Windows 11 SE. | Verify the individual build and any organizational policy. |
| Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 | Current general consumer availability is not established by Microsoft’s documentation. | Check whether the editor actually appears before relying on it. |
| Insider builds | Hidden features can differ or be removed. | Expect behavior to change between builds. |
Microsoft’s authoritative edition scope and policy details are in the Stickers policy documentation. Microsoft’s Windows 11 25H2 update history does not list Desktop Stickers as a newly enabled general consumer feature: 25H2 update history.
Use Desktop Stickers on Windows 11 SE
On a supported Windows 11 SE installation, use the built-in editor rather than changing the Registry.

- Windows 11 Pro
- Open Settings > Personalization > Background.
- Choose a supported single-picture or Windows Spotlight background if your build requires one.
- Return to the desktop and right-click an empty area.
- Select Add or edit stickers.
- Choose a sticker from the picker and drag it to the desired position.
- Use the on-screen resize controls to change its size.
- Select the X button to save and close the editor.
Microsoft describes the stickers as arrangeable, resizable, and customizable, and says they remain with the desktop when you change its background.
Try the unofficial Registry method only when you accept the risk
Older third-party guides describe a Registry value that exposed the hidden editor on some Windows 11 22H2-era installations. The method is not a current Microsoft consumer procedure and is not a guaranteed solution for Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education. The Registry location and historical walkthrough are documented by MSFTNext; Microsoft independently documents the EnableStickers policy and its values.

Before you edit
- Create a restore point or export the relevant Registry key.
- Use an administrator account; the change is under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. - Do not download an untrusted
.regfile. Creating the value manually lets you inspect exactly what changes. - Understand that Windows updates can alter or remove hidden features, and a managed computer may override local settings.
Manual Registry steps
- Press Windows + R, type
regedit, press Enter, and approve User Account Control. - Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdevice. - If there is no
Stickerskey, right-clickdevice, choose New > Key, and name itStickers. - Select
Stickers. In the right pane, right-click an empty area and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. - Name the value
EnableStickers. - Double-click it, set Value data to
1, and leave the base as hexadecimal. - Restart Windows, or sign out and sign back in.
- Right-click the desktop and check for Add or edit stickers.
Microsoft’s policy defines 0 as disabled and 1 as enabled, but that policy definition does not prove that the hidden editor exists on every edition or current build.
Wallpaper requirements can be build-dependent
Historical coverage reports that the editor may require a single-picture background or Windows Spotlight and may not appear with a slideshow or another unsupported mode. Treat this as a build-dependent prerequisite, not a universal rule. If the command is missing, temporarily select a single picture, restart or sign out, and check again. The reported 22H2 workflow is described by Neowin.

Use the sticker editor
- Add: Select an item in the sticker picker.
- Move: Drag the sticker across the desktop.
- Resize: Drag its resize handles or use the sizing controls shown by your build.
- Delete: Select the sticker and use the displayed delete control.
- Save and close: Select X at the top of the editor.
Sticker controls can vary with the Windows build. If a control is not shown, do not substitute an unrelated Registry change.

- Confirm the exact edition and build with
winver. The feature may simply be unsupported. - Recheck the path and spelling of
StickersandEnableStickers. - Confirm that
EnableStickersis a DWORD (32-bit) Value whose data is1, not a string. - Restart Windows or sign out and back in.
- Try a single-picture or Spotlight background.
- Install pending Windows updates, then test again; current releases may have removed the old component.
- On a work, school, or SE device, ask the administrator whether device policy controls Stickers.
- If nothing changes, remove the tweak rather than adding more undocumented Registry values.
On managed devices, the setting is device-scoped and an MDM policy can overwrite or ignore a local Registry edit. See Microsoft’s Stickers CSP reference.

Disable or undo the Registry change
- Open Registry Editor as administrator.
- Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdeviceStickers. - Either set
EnableStickersto0, or delete that value. - If you created the
Stickerskey solely for this experiment and it is empty, you may delete the key. - Restart Windows or sign out and sign back in.
Disabling the editor does not necessarily remove stickers already placed on the desktop. If the editor still opens, delete the stickers individually first. Do not assume that setting the policy to zero clears existing sticker data; historical reporting indicates that existing items may remain.
Stickers, Widgets, and personalization alternatives
Windows Widgets provide information and quick actions through the Widgets board; they are not decorative objects positioned over wallpaper. Microsoft explains the feature at Stay up to date with Widgets.
If your build does not support Stickers, a custom static wallpaper, Windows Spotlight, or ordinary icon-layout changes gives you desktop personalization without a Registry modification. Third-party wallpaper and customization tools can add larger libraries, custom images, animation, or widgets, but they may add background processes, advertising, paid upgrades, privacy concerns, startup delay, and update-compatibility problems.
Are Desktop Stickers worth enabling?
They are a lightweight way to personalize a supported Windows 11 SE desktop. On another edition, the benefit is modest compared with the uncertainty: use the Registry workaround only when you have a backup, understand that it may fail on your build, and are prepared to remove it. If the editor is absent after the qualified checks above, the safest conclusion is that your current Windows installation does not expose the feature.
