No. The iPhone 14 does not have Touch ID. It uses Face ID, which is enabled by the TrueDepth camera system. That is true of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Because the iPhone 14 launched in 2022, this is a settled specification, not a pending feature.
Which iPhone 14 models have Touch ID?
None of them. All four iPhone 14 models use Face ID; none has a fingerprint sensor or a Home button. Apple’s Face ID compatibility list includes the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Apple’s iPhone 14 technical specifications identify Face ID and the TrueDepth camera system, and describe Apple Pay authentication through Face ID.

How authentication works on the iPhone 14
Face ID uses the TrueDepth camera system on the front of the phone to recognize your face. You can use it to unlock the iPhone and authenticate supported app sign-ins and Apple Pay. If Face ID is unavailable, fails to recognize you, or you choose not to use it, the iPhone can ask for your passcode instead. A passcode remains an essential security credential even when Face ID is enabled.

Face ID and Touch ID serve similar purposes, but they are not interchangeable in every situation. Face ID can be convenient when your hands are occupied, while a fingerprint reader may suit someone who prefers to unlock by touch or wants to authenticate without presenting their face to the camera. Face coverings, some sunglasses, a blocked or damaged TrueDepth camera area, and the phone’s position can also affect Face ID use. When recognition does not work, use the passcode; the iPhone 14 has no fingerprint fallback.

Why can’t you turn on Touch ID in Settings?
Touch ID is missing because the iPhone 14 does not have the fingerprint-reading hardware needed to provide it. Apple’s specifications describe the iPhone 14’s biometric system as Face ID, not Touch ID. That makes this a hardware limitation, not a hidden setting or a feature awaiting an iOS update. You cannot add Touch ID to an iPhone 14 through Settings, an iOS update, a screen protector or an ordinary accessory.
An external fingerprint accessory might authenticate you within its own app or service, but it cannot replace the built-in biometric system for normal iPhone unlocking, iOS biometric settings or Apple Pay. Haptic Touch is also unrelated: despite the similar name, it is a display interaction feature, not fingerprint authentication.

What if Face ID is not working?
If you cannot unlock with Face ID, try these basic checks:

- Clean the front camera area and remove anything covering or obstructing it.
- Make sure your face is visible to the camera and try again.
- Use your passcode when prompted; it is the intended fallback.
- Check Face ID settings, then restart the iPhone. If needed, reset Face ID and set it up again.
- If the TrueDepth system is damaged or reports a hardware problem, contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider.
There is no Touch ID setting to troubleshoot on this model. The relevant biometric controls are for Face ID.

What should you buy if Touch ID is essential?
If built-in fingerprint authentication is a requirement, do not buy an iPhone 14 expecting to add it later. Check whether an iPhone SE model with Touch ID is currently available in your region, and confirm its generation and condition if buying used. Availability can change, and an SE has a different design and feature set from the iPhone 14. Alternatively, some Android phones offer side-mounted or under-display fingerprint readers, but sensor type, security, app support and payment behavior vary by model.
If you are comfortable with facial authentication, the iPhone 14 family offers Face ID for unlocking and supported authentication tasks. If you specifically want to authenticate with a finger on the phone itself, choose a device that includes a fingerprint sensor.
