Reduce White Point may help lower display power use in some situations, but it is not a guaranteed battery-saving feature. Apple describes it as an accessibility setting that reduces the intensity of bright colors—not as a battery mode, and it publishes no fixed saving figure for it. For dependable battery savings, lower the screen brightness, keep Auto-Brightness enabled, and use Low Power Mode when needed.
What Reduce White Point does
Reduce White Point tones down bright onscreen colors, so white backgrounds and other bright elements look less intense. Find it at Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Reduce White Point. Apple’s description and instructions are on its Reduce White Point accessibility page and iPhone user guide.
It is separate from the brightness slider: it changes the appearance of bright colors rather than replacing the ordinary brightness control. It does not turn the display black-and-white, enable Dark Mode, or put the iPhone into a low-power state. Its primary purpose is display comfort; some people find it useful when bright screens feel harsh, including at night.

- Open Settings, then tap Accessibility.

- Turn on Reduce White Point.
- If an intensity control appears, adjust it until the screen remains comfortable and readable. Avoid choosing a setting just to reach a particular percentage.
To turn it off, return to Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size and switch Reduce White Point off. You can also search for “Reduce White Point” in Settings if the menu is hard to find. Labels or placement may vary with iOS version and language.

If the screen looks too dull, text or images become hard to distinguish, or the display is difficult to use outdoors, turn the feature off or reduce its intensity. If colors still look washed out, check whether other accommodations—such as Color Filters, Grayscale, Invert Colors, or Increase Contrast—are also enabled in Display & Text Size.
Can it extend iPhone battery life?
Possibly, indirectly. A display is a power-consuming part of phone use, and dimming the screen can extend battery life. Because Reduce White Point makes bright content less intense, it is reasonable to infer that it could reduce display energy use in some circumstances. But that is not a measured or guaranteed result for this setting: Apple’s battery guidance recommends dimming the screen and using Auto-Brightness, not Reduce White Point as a battery-saving feature. See Apple’s iPhone battery-saving guidance.

No universal percentage, number of extra minutes, or model-independent result is established. The effect can depend on iPhone model and display, brightness level, content, screen-on time, and the rest of your usage. A bright screen may be only a small part of the drain if gaming, video recording, navigation, poor cellular reception, or background activity is using more power. If Reduce White Point makes the display uncomfortable or difficult to read, it is not worth forcing it for an uncertain battery gain.
Best settings to pair with it for battery life
- Lower brightness: Use the brightness slider in Control Center or Settings → Display & Brightness. Apple explicitly identifies dimming the screen as a battery-saving step.
- Keep Auto-Brightness on: It adjusts brightness to ambient light. Apple warns that turning it off may increase power consumption; the control is under Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Auto-Brightness.
- Use Auto-Lock: Set the display to turn off when you are not using the phone rather than leaving it on indefinitely.
- Turn on Low Power Mode when endurance matters: This is more comprehensive than a display adjustment because it reduces or disables several system behaviors, including Mail fetch, Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, and some visual effects. On ProMotion devices it can limit refresh rate to 60 frames per second. See Apple’s Low Power Mode overview.
- Prefer Wi-Fi where practical: Apple says Wi-Fi generally uses less battery than cellular data for internet activity. On supported models, 5G Auto can also help manage network use.
- Review battery use by app: Open Settings → Battery and check usage, suggestions, and Insights before assuming the display setting is the cause.
Low Power Mode’s location depends on iPhone generation: on iPhone 14 and earlier, open Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode; on iPhone 15 and later, open Settings → Battery → Power Mode → Low Power Mode. It turns off automatically after the iPhone charges above 80 percent. These paths and behavior are described in Apple’s iPhone battery and performance guidance.

Reduce White Point versus other display and battery settings
| Setting | What it changes | Battery relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Reduce White Point | Reduces the intensity of bright colors. | May reduce effective display output in some situations; Apple gives no guaranteed saving figure. |
| Brightness | Controls display brightness directly. | Apple explicitly recommends dimming the screen to extend battery life. |
| Auto-Brightness | Adjusts brightness based on ambient light. | Apple recommends it; turning it off may increase power consumption. |
| Dark Mode | Uses a dark color scheme throughout the system. | May be more power-efficient for some display and content combinations, but is not a universal battery solution. |
| Night Shift | Shifts display colors toward the warmer end of the spectrum. | Primarily a color-comfort adjustment, not a battery-saving control. |
| Low Power Mode | Reduces or disables several system behaviors and features. | A more comprehensive battery-saving option than changing display color intensity. |
Apple explains Dark Mode and Night Shift separately from its brightness guidance. A warmer display is not necessarily dimmer, and Dark Mode does not promise the same battery benefit on every iPhone, app, or type of content.
Make Reduce White Point easier to toggle
If you want it at night but not all day, you may be able to add it to Accessibility Shortcut. Open Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Shortcut, then select Reduce White Point if it appears in the list. After setup, triple-click the side button on Face ID models or the Home button on models that have one. If more than one feature is assigned, a menu may appear. The available shortcut choices and labels can vary by iOS release; Apple describes accessibility display controls and shortcuts on its accessibility page.

Why the battery may still drain quickly
A display adjustment will not address drain caused elsewhere. In Settings → Battery, review the Daily Usage chart, app energy use, battery suggestions, and Insights. Apple notes that background work after an update or device setup can temporarily affect usage. The Daily Usage chart and Adaptive Power require iOS 26 or later according to Apple’s current battery guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Drain while the screen is off: Look for apps or background activity in Battery usage rather than expecting Reduce White Point to help.
- Poor cellular signal: Weak coverage can increase power use. If you will be without coverage for an extended period, Airplane Mode may help; Wi-Fi generally uses less battery than cellular data for internet activity.
- Battery changed after an update: Some background activity can be temporary. Check Insights and usage again after it settles.
- Battery Health warning: A degraded battery may need service; another display tweak will not restore its capacity.
- Brightness keeps changing: Check that Auto-Brightness is configured as intended under Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size.
On supported iPhone models running iOS 26 or later, Adaptive Power can make automatic performance adjustments and may turn on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20 percent. Availability is limited to models Apple lists in its battery guidance, including iPhone 17 models, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 models, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Always-On Display, available on supported models, can also affect the screen’s power use; Apple lists the supported devices and behavior in its display documentation.
