Sometimes, for storage cleanup. Clean Master may help you find files to delete, but it is not a reliable way to make a modern phone faster, extend battery life, or increase its physical memory. The name also refers to several different apps, so check the developer and package before deciding whether a particular one is right for you.
Which Clean Master app do you mean?
“Clean Master” is not a single, clearly identifiable current product. The Android apps and iPhone app discussed here have different publishers, features and data disclosures. Check the store listing rather than relying on the name alone.

What can Clean Master actually do?
Find files you may want to remove
A storage-cleanup app can be useful if it surfaces large files, old downloads, unused apps or temporary data that you would otherwise overlook. If you review the suggestions and delete files you no longer need, it can free actual storage. That is a concrete result; it does not, by itself, demonstrate faster processing, longer battery life or fewer crashes.

Check what a cleanup category contains before approving it. “Junk” may include cached files, but a broad file list can also point to downloaded videos, messaging media, offline content or other personal files. Open or preview items where possible, sort by size and date, back up important files, and delete in small batches.
Understand cache versus app data
Android distinguishes between clearing temporary cache and clearing an app’s storage or data. Clearing cache removes temporary files; an app may load more slowly the next time it starts. Clearing storage or data can erase settings, downloads, local content and login sessions, requiring you to sign in or set the app up again. Google explains the distinction in its Android guidance on clearing app cache and data. Do not approve a broad cleanup without knowing which one it will do.
Will it make your phone faster or improve battery life?
Speed and RAM
Usually, no—not as a general-purpose speed boost. Android manages app memory and background processes itself. Google says users usually do not need to close apps; force-stopping one is more appropriate as a troubleshooting step than as routine optimization. If an app repeatedly consumes too much memory or causes problems, investigate or remove that app instead of repeatedly killing everything.

A lower “used RAM” number is not automatically better performance, and a cleaner cannot add physical memory or upgrade an aging processor. Apps closed by a task killer may restart, and repeated restarts can use processing time and battery. The useful exception is a misbehaving app: force-stopping that specific app can help troubleshoot it.
Storage and slowdowns
Freeing storage can help when a phone is nearly full, but that is different from boosting RAM or CPU performance. Google warns that Android phones can begin having problems when less than 10% of storage remains free. If you are near that point, deleting large files or uninstalling apps you do not use may address the storage pressure; a cleaner’s “boost” score is not proof of a speed improvement. Battery life
Treat a cleaner’s battery estimate or boost button as a claim, not evidence of longer runtime. Battery use depends on factors such as screen brightness, cellular signal, location access, demanding workloads, background sync and battery health. Check Android’s own battery settings to identify heavy-use apps, update or restrict apps that do not need background access, and consider battery service if the battery is worn. No controlled battery test is established by the app listings cited here.

Is Clean Master safe and trustworthy?
There is no single yes-or-no answer for every app with this name. Identify the exact publisher and package, then decide whether the app’s permissions and data practices are acceptable for the job you need it to do.
The Google Play Data Safety section for the current A.M. Ahmed Dev listing says the app may share location, app activity and device or other IDs with third parties; it also says data is encrypted in transit and cannot be deleted. The separate Mobilio Limited listing says it may collect or share app activity, app information and performance data, and device or other IDs. These are developer-provided disclosures, not independent verification or a security audit. Google says Data Safety information can vary by use, region and age; read it alongside the app’s privacy policy and permissions. See Google’s explanation of Play Store Data Safety.
Clean Master also has a history associated with Cheetah Mobile. Historical coverage says Google removed Cheetah Mobile apps, including the original Clean Master, from Google Play in 2020 amid concerns about deceptive ads and ad fraud; a later report recaps that action. That history is relevant context, but it does not establish that the current A.M. Ahmed Dev package is the same app or publisher. The name alone is not a trust signal. For the iOS app, Apple’s listing says usage data may be used to track users across apps and websites, and device ID and usage data may be linked to the user for advertising, analytics and app functionality. Apple privacy labels also rely on developer-supplied information; they are not an independent audit. Review the listing and current purchase details before installing.

Do not assume a storage cleaner is an antivirus. The A.M. Ahmed Dev listing describes cleanup functions; the separate Ultra Security listing advertises security-related checks, but that does not establish that either app provides comprehensive malware protection. “Junk,” “privacy issue” and “threat” are different categories, and a scan result should explain what it found and why.
For a first check on Android, use Google Play Protect: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Play Protect, and run a scan. Google says Play Protect checks apps for potentially harmful behavior, can warn you and may remove harmful apps. It is a built-in first line of defense, not a guarantee that every threat will be detected. See Google’s Play Protect guidance.

How to free space without Clean Master
Use Android Storage settings
- Open Settings and tap Storage. The exact menu names vary by device and Android version.
- Choose a category, such as apps, downloads or photos and videos, and review its contents.
- Delete only files you recognize and no longer need, or uninstall apps you do not use.
- On supported devices, Smart Storage can remove backed-up photos and videos when storage is nearly full. Check what will be removed before enabling or using it.

Use Files by Google
- Open Files by Google.
- Tap Menu, then Clean.
- On the Junk files card, tap Clean xx MB.
- Review the confirmation screen and delete only what you intend to remove. Deletion through this cleanup action is permanent.

Uninstall or archive unused apps
Uninstall an app if you no longer need it. Android can also archive unused apps on supported versions and devices, freeing space while retaining the app icon and personal data needed for restoration. Availability varies; see Google Play’s app-archiving information.
When might a third-party cleaner be worth using?
A cleaner may suit someone who wants one dashboard to identify large or temporary files, especially if the phone’s built-in storage menus are hard to navigate. Before installing, check the developer, permissions, ads and data disclosures; review each proposed deletion; and confirm it provides a specific convenience that the built-in tools do not.

- Avoid apps that show alarming fake warnings, countdowns or claims to double speed, cool the CPU or guarantee battery gains.
- Do not grant accessibility, device-admin, VPN, notification or “draw over other apps” access unless a clearly explained feature genuinely requires it.
- Do not treat a request to install another app, or a vague “threat” label for ordinary cache, as proof of a real problem.
- If a built-in manufacturer storage manager or Files by Google already solves your issue, an extra cleaner may add permissions and data exposure without much benefit.
How to remove Clean Master if you no longer want it
- Try Settings → Apps → [Clean Master app] → Uninstall. Menu labels vary by device.
- If you prefer, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps & devices → Manage, select the app and tap Uninstall.
- If uninstall is unavailable, check whether the app has device-admin or other special access and revoke it if appropriate before trying again. For a preinstalled app, consult the phone manufacturer’s instructions.
- If the app continues sending unwanted alerts, disable nonessential notifications in its notification settings. After removal, run Play Protect if you are concerned about harmful apps.
