Short answer: choose DocTranslate (the DocTranslating service at doctranslating.com) for a fast, mostly automated translation of an individual document. Choose Lionbridge GeoWorkz for recurring professional work that needs translation memory, terminology, shared projects, permissions, and concurrent users. If you need a completed human or managed translation, neither subscription is automatically the same as ordering a Lionbridge language service.
These are not like-for-like products
Both products help people work with translated content, but they solve different problems.
| Question | DocTranslate / DocTranslating | Lionbridge GeoWorkz |
|---|---|---|
| Product type | Self-service AI document translator | Hosted translation-workspace software |
| Typical user | Individuals and small teams with occasional documents | Freelancers, agencies, and localization departments |
| Basic workflow | Upload, choose languages and engine, process, download | Create projects, apply language assets, collaborate, review, and report |
| Main billing unit | Characters, AI tokens, and OCR credits | Monthly word volume and concurrent-user licenses |
| Core strength | Speed, simplicity, and document conversion | Repeatable production with shared translation memory and terminology |
| Human translation | Not presented as the core product | The workspace is infrastructure; human work may come from users, suppliers, or a separate Lionbridge service |
GeoWorkz describes itself as a Lionbridge business unit providing access to Translation Workspace (geoworkz.com). Its product material focuses on language assets, projects, licensing, and collaboration rather than a one-click consumer converter (Product).
First resolve the “DocTranslate” name
“DocTranslate” is ambiguous online. This comparison uses DocTranslate/DocTranslating at doctranslating.com for the pricing and feature analysis. A separate site, doctranslate.io, advertises a browser document translator with different limits and should not be silently merged with the first service.

DocTranslating (doctranslating.com)
The published page lists PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, and source-code files; more than 100 languages; OCR for scanned PDFs; right-to-left support; and access to engines including DeepL, Google, Azure, and Gemini-related functionality. It states that most documents up to 100 MB are supported (pricing page).
DocTranslate.io
Its FAQ lists DOCX, PDF, PPTX, XLSX, and TXT, with up to three files and 300 MB per file (FAQ). The home page advertises OCR, image translation, and a free allowance of 500 words (up to 10 pages) (home page). Verify the domain and plan before uploading a large batch.
How each workflow works
DocTranslate: document in, translated document out
- Upload the source file.
- Select the source and target languages.
- Choose an available translation engine or processing option.
- Let the service translate and, where needed, run OCR.
- Download the result and check it against the original.
This is useful for understanding a document’s gist, internal drafts, low-risk correspondence, and large volumes where full human translation is uneconomic. The provider’s FAQ warns that quality varies with file format, language pair, and text complexity (FAQ).
GeoWorkz: a production environment
Translation Workspace is organized around projects and reusable linguistic assets. GeoWorkz describes translation memories, glossaries, live asset updates, review packages, analysis, reporting, user permissions, and floating or concurrent licenses (Product; FAQ). Documentation also describes support for industry exchange standards such as XLIFF and TMX. Publicly indexed material does not establish a complete, current matrix of household Office and PDF formats, so confirm the exact client and file workflow before purchase.

Features that decide the choice
| Capability | DocTranslate | GeoWorkz / Translation Workspace |
|---|---|---|
| Automated machine/AI translation | Central purpose; listed engines and AI processing | Workspace can support machine-assisted workflows, but the subscription is not itself a completed translation order |
| OCR and scanned PDFs | Advertised OCR and OCR credits; strongest fit for an immediate scan-to-translation job | No current, specific OCR workflow established in the public pages reviewed |
| Translation memory | Public pages do not demonstrate governed, shared TM management | Core feature, with shared or live assets and match-based analysis |
| Terminology | DocTranslate.io mentions a personal dictionary; this is not shown as enterprise terminology governance | Glossaries, terminology workflows, permissions, and review packages |
| Collaboration | Public positioning emphasizes self-service processing | Multi-user projects, concurrent licenses, permissions, and reporting |
| Formatting | Downloadable translated files, RTL and document processing are advertised; layout still requires inspection | Depends on the selected Translation Workspace client and workflow; verify current format support |
| Human delivery | Not the product’s stated core | May be arranged separately through users, suppliers, or Lionbridge managed services |
Pricing: compare the units, not just the monthly number
The figures below are the published examples observed for the August 16, 2026 pricing snapshot. They are not equivalent measures of output.
DocTranslating plans
| Plan | Monthly price | Included capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $10/month | 72,000 characters, 66,600 AI tokens, 1,000 OCR credits |
| Pro | $20/month | 147,900 characters, 136,900 AI tokens, 2,000 OCR credits |
The page advertises two free months with annual billing, cancellation without penalties, upgrades or downgrades, and additional characters from $0.75 per 10,000 characters (pricing). Characters are not words; AI tokens are not interchangeable with translated characters; and OCR credits may apply only to scanned-document processing.
GeoWorkz plans
| Tier | Included words / licenses | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | 5,000 / 1 | $14 |
| Freelancer | 30,000 / 1 | $35 |
| Freelancer | 50,000 / 1 | $49 |
| Freelancer | 80,000 / 1 | $71 |
| Agency | 10,000 / 2 | $71 |
| Agency | 20,000 / 4 | $139 |
| Agency | 80,000 / 2 | $167 |
| Agency | 160,000 / 4 | $307 |
| Agency | 240,000 / 4 | $391 |
| Agency | 350,000 / 5 | $530 |
| Agency | 500,000 / 7 | $741 |
| Agency | 750,000 / 8 | $951 |
| Agency | 1,000,000 / 10 | $1,230 |
| Enterprise | 250,000 / 3 | $655 |
| Enterprise | 500,000 / 5 | $698 |
| Enterprise | 1,000,000 / 7 | $1,188 |
GeoWorkz says plans include basic support, no maintenance or upgrade charges, and pay-as-you-go words beyond the included allocation; additional licenses are available (Plans; FAQ). A license count describes concurrent access capacity, not necessarily the number of named employees in the account. The advertised trials include 5,000 words and one license for freelancers, and 160,000 words and four licenses for agencies.
Do not calculate a simple winner by dividing price by words. DocTranslate charges for automated processing capacity, while GeoWorkz charges for workspace volume and access. A human review, formatting pass, or managed translation can dominate either subscription’s total cost.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich product fits common scenarios?
One-off PDF, Word file, spreadsheet, or presentation
Use DocTranslate when the content is low or moderate risk and speed matters more than a governed production process. Downloading a file does not prove that tables, footnotes, images, bookmarks, or page breaks survived correctly.
Scanned PDF
DocTranslate has the clearer advertised path because both DocTranslating and DocTranslate.io promote OCR. Preserve the original scan, inspect the extracted text, correct recognition errors, and compare the final translation page by page. Watch for misread numbers, columns, seals, stamps, superscripts, handwriting, and text embedded in images.
Freelance translator
GeoWorkz is the better fit when you need translation memory, glossaries, recurring projects, analysis, and controlled reuse across clients. DocTranslate can accelerate a draft but does not publicly demonstrate the same asset governance.
Small or growing agency
GeoWorkz becomes more defensible when several people need shared projects, review packages, permissions, and floating licenses. Budget for setup, terminology governance, training, and overage words rather than treating it as an instant converter.
Rank #3
Recurring product localization
Choose a translation workspace when consistency over many releases matters. Shared memory and terminology can reduce repeated work and expose match information; confirm the current file connectors and client applications for your content system.
Legal, medical, regulated, or brand-critical material
Do not treat an automated result as certified or publication-ready. Contracts, court or immigration filings, medical instructions, safety text, financial disclosures, government forms, product claims, and marketing copy need qualified human review. If you need accountability, domain expertise, post-editing, or a service-level arrangement, request a separate Lionbridge managed service.
Quality and layout checks you should perform
- Test a representative sample in the exact language pair before processing a large batch.
- Check names, dates, numbers, units, conditions, and specialized terminology against the source.
- Inspect tables, headers, footers, footnotes, cross-references, images, and page breaks.
- For right-to-left output, verify direction, fonts, punctuation, and mixed-language fields; advertised RTL support is not a guarantee for every layout.
- For low-resource languages or regional variants, have a fluent reviewer assess idiom and terminology.
- Keep the original file and a versioned copy of every corrected translation.
Privacy and security questions to ask before uploading
GeoWorkz materials describe hosted SaaS infrastructure, authentication, permissions, and data segregation (Product). That does not by itself establish a legal compliance certification. The public DocTranslate pages cited here do not establish a complete retention, encryption, compliance, or data-processing policy.
For confidential or regulated content, confirm in writing:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- How long files and translated output are retained and how deletion works.
- Whether content is used to improve models.
- Where processing occurs and which third-party engine receives text.
- Whether human reviewers or suppliers can access files.
- Whether a data-processing agreement and required regional controls are available.
- Whether the service accepts your regulated or privileged data.
Lionbridge’s statement that data is not stored on its cloud or servers applies to its separate legal machine-translation offering, not automatically to GeoWorkz or every Lionbridge product (legal machine translation).
Common failure modes and recovery
DocTranslate: poor OCR
Garbled text, missing columns, wrong numbers, or untranslated image text usually originate in recognition. Run or export OCR separately, correct the source text, reprocess, and compare the result against the scan.
Rank #4
- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
DocTranslate: damaged formatting
Export to an editable format where possible, rebuild important tables manually, and request a human formatting pass for production documents. A downloadable file is not evidence that the layout is publication-ready.
DocTranslate: inconsistent terminology
Supply a dictionary where supported, test more than one available engine when practical, and route specialized or high-risk passages to a human reviewer.
DocTranslate: unsupported or oversized file
The two branded domains publish different limits: DocTranslating says most documents up to 100 MB, while DocTranslate.io says 300 MB per file and up to three files. Confirm the exact domain, plan, and current limit before preparing a batch.
GeoWorkz: expecting a finished translation
A GeoWorkz subscription provides Translation Workspace access; it does not necessarily include a translator or a completed translation order. Arrange people, suppliers, or a separate Lionbridge service when delivery is required.
GeoWorkz: underestimating setup or overages
Plan user and license configuration, language-asset organization, workflow design, training, and terminology ownership. Model average and peak monthly words, concurrent users, extra licenses, and pay-as-you-go rates before selecting a tier.
When a different Lionbridge purchase is the right answer
Lionbridge presents separate models for human translation, localization, AI translation, and human-in-the-loop work (service models; AI translation services; AI). Select a managed service when you need a delivered translation, domain specialists, post-editing, enterprise procurement, integrations, or an accountable project team. Select GeoWorkz when your organization wants to operate and control the production environment itself.
