DDU 18.0.6.9 is a genuine, older Display Driver Uninstaller release published by Wagnardsoft on October 30, 2023. You can download its official portable or installer edition below. Unless you specifically need this historical version, use the current DDU release instead.

Wagnardsoft asks users not to redistribute DDU through unauthorized third-party servers. Avoid software mirrors when possible, because a matching filename does not prove that a file is authentic or unmodified.
Important: DDU 18.0.6.9 is an archived release, not the newest DDU version. Later 18.1.x releases exist. For ordinary troubleshooting on a current Windows installation or recent GPU, check the official DDU page first.

How to verify the download
The official release announcement publishes SHA-1 and SHA-256 checksums. SHA-256 is the preferred check because it is stronger and is supported directly by Windows PowerShell.

In PowerShell, replace the path with the location of your downloaded file:

What DDU does
Display Driver Uninstaller is a Windows cleanup utility designed to remove graphics-driver packages and related components. Wagnardsoft describes it as removing driver files, folders, registry entries and driver-store components that can remain after a normal uninstall.
DDU 18.0.6.9 supports NVIDIA, AMD and Intel graphics drivers. It also includes basic Realtek audio-driver cleanup. It is not a graphics driver, GPU optimizer, FPS booster or replacement for the NVIDIA, AMD or Intel driver installer. DDU cannot repair a defective graphics card, failing power supply, overheating, damaged display cable or unrelated Windows problem.
Why use version 18.0.6.9?
This release can make sense when you need to reproduce an older repair procedure exactly, or when a compatible Windows 7–11 system requires a fixed historical tool version. Typical use cases include:

- A failed, corrupted or repeatedly interrupted graphics-driver installation.
- Persistent driver remnants after a normal uninstall.
- Switching between NVIDIA, AMD and Intel graphics hardware.
- Crashes, black screens, freezes or suspected driver conflicts.
- A documented troubleshooting process that specifically requires DDU 18.0.6.9.
For a routine same-vendor driver update that is working normally, DDU is usually unnecessary. Wagnardsoft primarily recommends it when normal installation or uninstallation has problems, or when changing GPU brands.

The listed changes for 18.0.6.9 include enhanced NVIDIA DXCache cleanup, improved Intel cache-folder cleanup, and updated Polish and Czech translations. These details apply to this release and should not be treated as the requirements or feature set of every newer DDU version.
Portable or installer: which should you choose?
Choose the portable edition for a one-time repair. It extracts into a folder you choose and does not require a conventional installation. It is also convenient when keeping multiple DDU versions in separate folders. Extract it to a local drive such as C:DDU before launching it.
Choose the installer edition for repeated use. It follows a normal setup process and can create a desktop shortcut, making it more convenient on a PC where you expect to use DDU again.
Both editions contain the same requested DDU release. The choice is mainly about how you want to launch and store the utility.

1. Download the replacement driver first
Have the new driver installer stored locally before removing the existing one. Use the appropriate official source:

On a laptop or prebuilt computer, check the manufacturer’s support page first. Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS and other OEMs may customize graphics packages for display switching, brightness controls, docking, power management or special hardware IDs.
2. Create a restore point or backup
DDU changes driver files, registry entries and related configuration. Create a restore point or another usable backup before proceeding. Also make sure you can access your BitLocker recovery key, because recovery or Safe Mode operations can sometimes request it.
3. Prevent Windows Update from reinstalling a driver
Disconnect Ethernet, disable Wi-Fi, or use an appropriate Windows Update blocking method before cleanup. Keep the network disconnected through the reboot and replacement-driver installation. Reconnect only after the new driver is installed.
4. Extract DDU locally
Do not run the portable edition directly from a network drive. Extract it to a local folder such as C:DDU or D:DDU. The installer edition should likewise be installed locally.
5. Start Windows in Safe Mode
Safe Mode is the recommended environment because fewer driver components and background programs are active.
- Open Settings.
- Go to System > Recovery.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode.
Labels can vary slightly by Windows edition and build. If Safe Mode is unavailable, consult Microsoft’s current recovery instructions rather than relying on an old screenshot or menu path.

6. Select the device and vendor
Launch DDU and review its warning or options dialog. On the right side, set Device type to GPU, then select the relevant vendor: NVIDIA, AMD or INTEL.
7. Choose the cleanup action

| Switching from NVIDIA to AMD, or AMD to NVIDIA | Clean the old vendor, then restart or shut down as appropriate |
Clean and restart is the normal choice before installing a replacement driver. Use Clean and shutdown when the PC will be powered off for a physical GPU swap. If you use DDU outside Safe Mode, Wagnardsoft recommends cleaning, rebooting and repeating rather than treating normal mode as equivalent.
8. Install the replacement driver
After DDU finishes, remain offline and run the driver package you downloaded earlier. Reboot if requested, then reconnect the internet.
For NVIDIA, the vendor’s own clean-install method may be enough for many same-vendor problems:
- Download the correct Game Ready or Studio driver.
- Close browsers, games, video players, monitoring tools and tuning utilities.
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Choose Custom (Advanced).
- Enable Perform a clean installation.
- Finish the installation and reboot.
AMD and Intel users should use the official installer for their hardware. DDU removes the old package; it does not provide the new one.

Troubleshooting
Windows Update reinstalls the old driver
Disconnect the network before running DDU and keep the replacement installer on the PC. If an organization manages the computer, Group Policy or enterprise management tools may override ordinary Windows Update settings.

DDU does not launch
First verify that the file came from Wagnardsoft and that its SHA-256 hash matches. Extract the portable edition to a local folder and try again in Safe Mode. Do not disable antivirus protection merely to run a file from an unknown source.
Security software flags DDU
System-cleanup utilities can occasionally trigger security software warnings, but a warning is not proof of either safety or malware. Confirm the source and hash, inspect the security product’s detection details, and follow the product vendor’s guidance. Do not create a permanent antivirus exclusion casually. Wagnardsoft’s guidance about excluding the DDU folder should be treated as a last-resort troubleshooting step, not a default requirement.
The screen goes black after cleanup
A temporary black screen or low-resolution display can occur because the vendor driver has been removed. Windows will normally fall back to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Reboot, try another display output or cable if necessary, start Windows normally, and install the driver already stored locally.

If Windows cannot start correctly, use Windows Recovery or System Restore. DDU cannot fix a hardware failure or guarantee that display output will remain available during cleanup.
Intel graphics on a laptop
Removing an Intel integrated-graphics driver can affect brightness controls, docking, sleep behavior and hybrid-graphics switching. Prefer the laptop maker’s driver package when available, especially if the generic Intel package causes device-specific problems.
Multiple GPUs or previous vendors
Old NVIDIA and AMD packages can remain after a graphics-card change. If both vendors have been installed in the same Windows installation, clean the relevant packages individually, using Clean and do NOT restart only when you understand that both cleanup operations will be completed before rebooting.
Should you use DDU 18.0.6.9 or the current version?
Use 18.0.6.9 when an older guide explicitly requires it, a fixed tool version is important for reproducing a known setup, or you have a compatible Windows 7–11 environment and a verified official copy.

Before using DDU at all, try the graphics vendor’s normal installer or clean-install option if the problem is a routine same-vendor update. DDU is more invasive and is best reserved for persistent installation issues, failed uninstalls, serious driver conflicts or vendor changes.
