If Disney+ won’t open, keeps buffering, shows an error, or has lost downloads, the right fix depends on what is failing. First check whether the problem is limited to one Android device, one network, or one title. The steps below separate Android phones and tablets from Android TV and Google TV, and start with fixes that won’t erase your downloads or sign you out.
Try first: force-close Disney+, restart the device, then test another app or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If you clear app data or reinstall Disney+, you may be signed out and lose downloaded videos.
First, identify what is not working
Match the symptom before changing settings:
- Disney+ will not open or crashes: start with a restart, app update, and cache check.
- It is stuck loading, buffering, or will not start a video: test another app and network, then restart the router and device.
- You can sign in but see a location error: check VPN or proxy settings and your current region.
- Login fails: verify the MyDisney email and password, then check for a sign-in code.
- Downloads are missing or unavailable: check your plan, storage, and last internet connection before reinstalling.
- Disney+ works on a phone but not a TV: use the Android TV or Google TV steps below; phone instructions may not match TV menus.
Is it Disney+, the device, or the network?
- Try another Disney+ title. If only one title fails, the issue may be title-specific rather than a general app failure.
- Open another streaming or web app on the same Android device. If those fail too, investigate the device or network first.
- Try Disney+ on another device, if available. If it also fails there, suspect an account-wide or service-side issue.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If Disney+ works on one but not the other, focus on that connection, router, carrier restrictions, DNS, or filtering.
Disney lists device compatibility, unstable internet, outdated software, router or modem problems, ISP outages, and high viewer demand among possible causes of streaming trouble. Check the Disney+ streaming troubleshooting guide and its supported-device listings before concluding the service is down. A failure on several devices and networks at once is stronger evidence of an account or service issue than a failure on one Android device alone.

1. Force-stop the app and restart Android
Open Settings > Apps (or Apps & notifications / See all apps) > Disney+ > Force stop, then reopen Disney+. Menu names vary by manufacturer. If that does not help, restart the phone or tablet from its Power menu. Disney recommends fully closing the app as an early step, and Google also recommends restarting when an Android app crashes or stops responding.

2. Check the connection
Open another app, move closer to the router, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If the problem occurs only on Wi-Fi, restart the modem and router and temporarily disable VPNs, proxies, private DNS, or filtering apps for a test. If it happens only on mobile data, check coverage, data-saver settings, and any carrier restrictions. A speed test alone may not reveal every connection problem.
3. Update Disney+ and Android
To update Disney+, open Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps & device, and install any available Disney+ update. Get the app from the official Google Play listing, rather than an unofficial APK site.
To check Android, open Settings > System > Software update (or System update). On some devices, the option is under About phone. Install available updates and restart; manufacturer menu labels differ.

4. Clear the cache, then consider app data
Go to Settings > Apps > Disney+ > Storage or Storage & cache, then tap Clear cache. This removes temporary files and is the lower-risk option. Disney provides device-specific instructions for clearing cache and data.
If the app still fails, return to the same screen and choose Clear data or Clear storage. This is more disruptive: it signs you out, may reset app preferences, and can remove downloads. Make sure you know your MyDisney login first.
5. Reinstall only if needed
Uninstall Disney+, restart the device, then reinstall it from Google Play and sign in. Reinstallation can replace damaged app files, but it removes local app data and may delete offline downloads. Try updates and cache clearing first.

Check whether the device is supported
Disney’s current guidance for Android phones and tablets lists Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later as the minimum, but meeting that software requirement does not guarantee every model or feature will work. Manufacturer software, available storage, Google services, device certification, or modified firmware can also matter. Check Disney’s Android mobile device guidance. Rooted, modified, uncertified, or sideloaded configurations are not guaranteed to work like supported devices.

Fix Disney+ on Android TV or Google TV
TV-connected devices have different menus and support requirements from phones and tablets. Check that Disney+ is listed in that device’s official Play Store and that the TV or streamer has current system software.
- Exit Disney+ and restart the TV or streaming device.
- Open the Play Store and update Disney+, then check the device’s system update.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Disney+ and choose Force stop.
- Open Storage and clear the cache. If necessary, clear data, bearing in mind that this signs you out and may remove app data or downloads.
- Restart the device and test another app. If possible, test Disney+ over a phone hotspot to distinguish a home-network problem from a device problem.
- If Disney+ still crashes, uninstall and reinstall it if your device offers that option.
A factory reset is not a reasonable first fix for a Disney+-only problem: it erases accounts, settings, and installed apps. Consider one only if several apps fail and device-level troubleshooting points to a broader operating-system issue. For certain playback or high-resolution problems involving external displays, Disney says connected 4K/HDR components should support HDCP 2.2; see its streaming troubleshooting guidance.

What common Disney+ error codes suggest

If no code appears, use the symptom and device-versus-network checks above. A frozen logo, black screen, or endless spinner does not identify one cause by itself.

Disney+ uses a MyDisney login shared across Disney experiences. Confirm the email address, use the password-reset process if needed, and check spam or junk folders for a one-time code. Avoid creating a second account with another email just to get around a sign-in problem. Disney’s login guidance explains the MyDisney sign-in process.

Downloads missing or not working?
Downloads are not supported on every plan or device. Disney’s current rules say downloads require a supported mobile device and an eligible Premium plan or qualifying Premium bundle; ad-supported plans do not support downloads. Downloads are not available to TV-connected devices, computers, or Windows 10/11 tablets. A device must reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days, and logging out removes downloaded content. Disney allows downloads on up to 10 supported mobile devices, subject to available storage; some titles may not be downloadable or may leave the service. Check the current download requirements and download troubleshooting.
- Check that the plan supports downloads and that the title is eligible.
- Check free device storage and reconnect to the internet.
- Force-close and reopen Disney+, then install any app update.
- If one download is stuck or unusable, delete and redownload that title.
Avoid logging out or clearing app data until you are ready to lose local downloads.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact Disney+
If Disney+ continues to fail across multiple supported devices and networks, or you have an account or payment issue, contact Disney rather than repeating cache clears or resetting your TV. The official support page offers contact options, including a virtual assistant and, for US support, phone number 888-905-7888. Availability and contact options may vary by region.

If the app remains unusable, DisneyPlus.com in a supported browser or another supported device can serve as a temporary workaround and help confirm whether the problem is specific to your Android device. Check compatibility before buying replacement hardware; a device purchase will not fix an account, VPN/location, service, or network problem.
