If Disney+ is not working, first check whether the problem follows your device or your network: try the service on another supported device or browser, then try a different network if practical. If it fails only on one device, focus on that device’s app, software, or TV connection; if it fails across devices and networks, an account or Disney+ service issue becomes more likely. Don’t reinstall before making those quick comparisons.

For a fast first pass, fully close and reopen Disney+, restart the device, restart the modem and router, install available app and device updates, and try another title. Disney identifies compatibility, connection stability, outdated software, and router or modem problems among common causes. Disney’s streaming troubleshooting guide was published April 9, 2026.

Check whether Disney+ is down or the problem is local

The tests below are practical diagnostics, not official Disney classifications. They help narrow down whether to troubleshoot the app, your network, or your account. The sources available here do not establish a live Disney+ outage, so check Disney’s Help Center and support channels rather than assuming the service is down.

  1. Try Disney+ on a second supported device or in a supported browser.
  2. If possible, switch networks—for example, compare home Wi-Fi with a phone hotspot. A hotspot can use mobile data.
  3. Check whether other apps or websites work on the affected device.
  4. Note whether the problem affects every title, profile, and device, or only one of them.
What you observe What it points toward
Disney+ fails on several devices and different networks A Disney+ service issue, account issue, regional issue, or another broader problem is more likely; this is not a guarantee.
It fails on only one device That device’s app, software, cache, compatibility, or TV connection is a more useful place to start.
It works on mobile data but not home Wi-Fi Investigate the router, Wi-Fi, ISP, DNS, or network filtering.
The website works but the installed app does not Focus on the app installation, device compatibility, permissions, or app-specific data.
The app opens but one title fails Try other titles and profiles; the issue may be title-, profile-, availability-, or playback-specific.
Login fails everywhere Check credentials, subscription status, billing, and any subscription partner.

Disney organizes help separately for app-opening, streaming, login, blank-screen, cache, connection, download, and error-code problems. For a code-specific fix, use its current Help Center guidance rather than guessing what a code means.

Fix an app that will not open, freezes, or crashes

Force-close Disney+ and restart the device

  1. Exit the title, then close Disney+ from the device’s recent-apps or app-management screen.
  2. Open Disney+ again. Returning to the home screen may not fully close an app on some TVs.
  3. If your device has no app switcher or the app remains frozen, restart the entire device.

Disney’s app troubleshooting guidance covers apps that fail to open, crash, freeze, or show connection errors.

Update the app and device software

  1. Open the device’s official app store and check for a Disney+ update.
  2. Check the device settings for an operating-system or firmware update.
  3. Install available updates, restart the device, and try Disney+ again.

An app can be current even when the device operating system is too old. Compatibility varies by model, software version, and location; check Disney’s device-specific guidance if support is uncertain.

Clear cache or data where the device allows it

Clearing cache removes temporary files and is usually the less disruptive option. Clearing data or storage removes local app information and generally signs you out. Menu names vary by model and software version.

  • Browser: Clear cache and cookies for the browser you use. This can sign you out of websites and remove other temporary browser data.

Reinstall Disney+ if the simpler steps fail

  1. Uninstall Disney+ using the device’s normal app-management controls.
  2. Restart the device.
  3. Reinstall Disney+ from the official app store and sign in again.

Reinstallation replaces the local app installation, but it cannot resolve a service-side problem, account restriction, unsupported device, or defective hardware. Do not sideload unofficial APKs or install modified apps.

Fix buffering, freezing, or connection errors

Check the connection before changing settings

  • See whether other apps or websites work on the same device.
  • Move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router, or try wired Ethernet where available.
  • Pause large downloads, uploads, cloud backups, or other heavy network activity while testing.
  • If you use a VPN, proxy, ad-blocking DNS, or network-level filtering, temporarily test without it. Treat this as a diagnostic check, not a permanent recommendation.

Disney’s connection guidance recommends checking the connection and moving a wireless device closer to its Wi-Fi source. Playback depends on more than a nominal download-speed figure: latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, congestion, and device limits can matter too.

Power-cycle the modem, router, and streaming device

  1. Turn off the streaming device, modem, and router.
  2. Restart the modem first and allow the connection to return.
  3. Restart the router, then the streaming device.
  4. Open Disney+ and test playback again.

This sequence follows Disney’s recommended power cycle. Restarting network equipment temporarily disconnects other devices in the home.

Test another network and data-use settings

If Disney+ works on a different network, concentrate on the home router, ISP, DNS, or filtering rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app. A hotspot test can help isolate the home connection, but may consume mobile data. Disney provides in-app Wi-Fi and cellular data-use settings; changing them can reduce data use but may reduce picture quality. See Disney’s data-usage guidance.

Fix a blank screen, loading wheel, or audio without video

  1. Wait briefly to see whether a slow load completes.
  2. Exit and relaunch Disney+, then restart the device if the screen remains frozen.
  3. Try another title and, where relevant, another profile.
  4. Update the app and device software; clear cache or reinstall if needed.
  5. Test Disney+ on another device or network to isolate the failure.

Check the TV and HDMI connection

If you use a streaming stick, console, receiver, soundbar, HDMI switch, or other equipment between the source and TV, test a simpler connection path. For example, connect the source directly to the TV if possible, or compare with the TV’s built-in Disney+ app. Check that cables and connected components support the content being played. Disney notes that high-bandwidth digital content requires the relevant components, including HDMI cables, to support it. The right requirements depend on the device, resolution, HDR format, and copy-protection setup; replacing a cable is not a guaranteed fix.

A factory reset erases settings and logins and is not an early troubleshooting step. Save it for a last resort, preferably after Disney support or the device maker recommends it.

Fix login and TV activation problems

  1. Confirm the email address and password, then try signing in through the official Disney+ website.
  2. If your subscription is billed by a third-party partner, check that partner’s account and billing status. Disney identifies partner subscriptions as a possible source of login errors in its email and login guidance.
  3. If a TV asks you to activate Disney+ again, use the code shown in the app and the official Disney+ activation instructions on a phone or computer.
  4. Confirm the existing subscription before buying another one; a duplicate subscription may not resolve an account or billing issue.

Account access and playback are different problems: being able to sign in does not by itself establish that a particular title, device, network, or subscription entitlement will play.

Fix Disney+ downloads that will not work

Offline downloads are limited by plan and device. Disney says downloads are available on supported mobile devices, not TV-connected devices, computers, or Windows 10 and 11 tablets. Its current downloads guidance identifies eligible Premium plans and bundles; check that page for current eligibility rather than assuming every plan includes downloads.

When to contact Disney+

Contact Disney if the problem continues across supported devices and networks, a recurring error remains after standard troubleshooting, or your subscription appears active but the service says you are not subscribed. Account, billing, partner, bundle, household, or regional changes are also reasons to get account-specific help rather than continue resetting devices.

The U.S. Disney+ support page lists a virtual assistant, agent support, and phone support at 888-905-7888. The page says your name and account email may be required and local or international charges may apply. Support availability and contact details can change; use the official page to confirm them.
