You can deploy the Zoom Workplace desktop client to managed Windows PCs through Microsoft Intune by uploading Zoom’s current enterprise MSI as a Windows line-of-business app. For a machine-wide installation, use Device installation context, assign the app to a pilot device group as Required, and then expand the rollout after testing.
This guide covers the MSI deployment itself. Installing Zoom does not automatically configure every Zoom policy, sign-in restriction, update setting, or integration. Those controls may require Zoom-supported MSI properties or separate policy management through Intune.
Before you begin
- An active Microsoft Intune tenant and the appropriate licensing.
- Windows devices enrolled in Intune and able to check in.
- Windows Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education. Windows Home is not supported for MSI line-of-business deployment.
- Permission to add applications and manage assignments in Intune.
- The current Zoom enterprise Windows MSI.
- A pilot device group and at least one test computer.
- Network access to Intune and Zoom services.
Choose the installer architecture for your fleet. Zoom may provide separate packages for 64-bit, 32-bit, or ARM Windows devices; do not assume that one MSI is suitable for every endpoint.
Choose the right Intune deployment type

For a simple machine-wide Zoom installation, the MSI line-of-business route is usually the quickest option. Use a Win32 app when Zoom is part of a more complex application sequence or needs tightly controlled configuration.

1. Download the current Zoom enterprise MSI
Open Zoom’s current mass-deployment documentation and follow its Windows IT-admin download route. Download the full enterprise MSI rather than an ordinary consumer installer.
Older guides commonly refer to filenames such as ZoomInstallerFull.msi or ZoomInstallFull.msi. Treat neither name as permanently authoritative: Zoom can change filenames, and documentation may not use identical spelling. Use the actual filename downloaded from Zoom, and record its version, architecture, source, and download date.
2. Create the Windows line-of-business app
- Sign in to the Microsoft Intune admin center.
- Go to Apps and open All Apps.
- Select Create or Add, depending on the portal view.
- Choose the Windows platform.
- Select Line-of-business app, then select Select.
- Under App package file, browse to the Zoom MSI.
- Select OK and wait for Intune to process the package.
Portal labels can change as Microsoft updates the admin center, but the functional sequence remains Windows app creation, line-of-business app selection, MSI upload, configuration, and assignment. Microsoft’s current procedure is documented in Add a Windows line-of-business app to Microsoft Intune.
3. Configure App information
Use clear metadata so administrators can distinguish the managed client from older or alternative Zoom packages:
- Name: Zoom Workplace – Windows
- Description: Organization-managed Zoom Workplace desktop client
- Publisher: Zoom Video Communications
- App install context: Device for a machine-wide deployment
- Icon: Optional, but useful in the Intune admin center and Company Portal where applicable
- Scope tags: Apply your organization’s scope tags if role-based administration is in use
Device or user installation context?
Select Device when Zoom should be installed for the computer and be available to users who sign in. This is generally the correct choice for organization-owned PCs and machine-wide deployment.

A device-context installation is not the same as configuring every user profile. The MSI can install the application at device level while Zoom preferences, permissions, sign-in behavior, and other settings remain user-specific or policy-controlled.
If you choose user context, installation may depend on user sign-in and may not work as expected when the MSI requires device-level installation. Test that choice with the exact package and target scenario.

Set Ignore app version to Yes when Zoom is allowed to update itself and Intune is not intended to enforce the exact version in the uploaded MSI. Microsoft documents this option for self-updating MSI applications because it can prevent the application updater and Intune from competing over version state.
Do not treat this as a universal requirement. If Intune owns version control, leave the setting aligned with that strategy and plan to upload newer MSI packages when releases are approved. Microsoft states that administrators generally need to update ordinary uploaded line-of-business packages themselves.
Command-line arguments
Use only Zoom-supported MSI properties or switches that are documented for the installer version you downloaded. Do not enter msiexec, /i, or /x. Intune supplies the MSI installation and removal commands for a line-of-business package.

Older third-party procedures show examples such as ZoomAutoUpdate=True. Do not copy that property blindly as a current universal recommendation. Verify the property and its supported value in Zoom’s current enterprise deployment documentation before using it.

- Open the app’s Assignments section.
- Add a small, controlled device group under Required.
- Add exclusions for kiosks, shared devices, special-purpose systems, or incompatible architectures where necessary.
- Review assignment filters, group membership, and platform requirements.
- Create the application.
For a device-context LOB app, Required device deployment is the normal model. The Available for enrolled devices option may not appear or behave the same way as it does for user-context applications. Do not assume that a device-context installation will automatically provide an optional Company Portal experience.
After the pilot succeeds, expand the assignment in stages rather than targeting every endpoint immediately.
5. Monitor the deployment
Intune admin center
Open the Zoom app and review device installation status. Check for:
- Installed, failed, pending, and not-applicable devices.
- Recent device check-in times.
- Assignment filters, exclusions, and group membership.
- Platform, edition, and architecture mismatches.
- Whether another application or MSI installation is already running.
Windows event logs
On a test device, open Event Viewer and inspect:

Registry diagnostics
For troubleshooting, older LOB deployment guidance points to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftEnterpriseDesktopAppManagementSystem-SID and user-SID subkeys can contain deployment information for device- and user-context apps. Treat this as a diagnostic location, not a supported configuration interface. Manage the application through Intune rather than editing these keys.
6. Validate the installed Zoom client
On the pilot computer, verify all of the following:
- Intune reports the app as installed.
- The expected Zoom architecture and version are present.
- Zoom launches for a standard user.
- Users can sign in or join meetings as intended.
- Microphone, camera, speaker, and screen sharing work.
- Outlook, browser, or other approved integrations behave correctly.
- Zoom does not auto-launch if that behavior is undesired.
- The selected update strategy is working.
- An older per-user Zoom installation is not causing duplicate shortcuts, conflicts, or unexpected launch behavior.
- The deployment does not interfere with Autopilot or other application installations.
Installation success does not prove that Zoom policies were applied. Treat application installation, configuration, permissions, sign-in, and update behavior as separate validation items.

Common failures and fixes

Manage updates and Zoom configuration
Decide explicitly who owns future releases:
- Zoom-owned updates: Permit the supported Zoom update mechanism and consider Ignore app version = Yes to avoid Intune treating a newer self-updated client as noncompliant with the uploaded MSI.
- Intune-owned updates: Approve releases, upload updated MSI packages, and use your organization’s testing and rollout process.
- Controlled configuration: Apply Zoom-supported administrative settings separately. Installing the MSI alone does not configure every enterprise policy.
Zoom provides Windows mass-deployment and Intune guidance in its official enterprise deployment documentation. For policy management, consult Zoom’s current settings documentation and your organization’s approved Intune configuration approach.

Existing installations, rollback, and removal
Before production rollout, test computers that already contain a per-user Zoom installation. The enterprise MSI may upgrade, coexist with, or conflict with an existing installation depending on the package and installed version.
For rollback, remove the pilot assignment or configure an uninstall assignment according to your Intune application strategy, then verify that the expected Zoom components and user experience are removed. Do not rely on deleting registry entries as an uninstall method. If a cleanup script is required, a Win32 deployment may provide better control than a basic LOB app.
Is MSI LOB the right production choice?
Use the LOB MSI route when the package installs cleanly, Zoom’s updater can own releases, and you do not need complex detection or dependencies. Choose a Win32 package when you need custom detection, prerequisite handling, cleanup of older installations, scripts, repair logic, strict version enforcement, or more predictable Autopilot sequencing.

A Microsoft Store deployment may be worth evaluating when the required Zoom package is available and publisher-hosted content and updates fit your requirements. Confirm its package identity, installation context, update behavior, and enterprise settings before treating it as equivalent to Zoom’s IT-admin MSI. Organizations with established Configuration Manager or co-management processes may prefer that platform for traditional collections, supersedence, and on-premises distribution. Cloud-first organizations generally gain a simpler workflow from Intune.
Deployment checklist
- Confirm Intune enrollment and supported Windows editions.
- Download the current Zoom enterprise MSI from Zoom.
- Match the MSI architecture to the target devices.
- Choose Zoom or Intune as the update owner.
- Create a Windows line-of-business app.
- Use Device context for a machine-wide deployment.
- Enter only supported Zoom MSI arguments.
- Assign Required deployment to a pilot device group.
- Review filters, exclusions, and check-in status.
- Validate installation, sign-in, audio, video, screen sharing, integrations, and updates.
- Plan cleanup, rollback, and Autopilot behavior before broad deployment.
The Bottom Line
For most straightforward managed-PC deployments, upload Zoom’s current enterprise MSI as an Intune Windows line-of-business app, use Device context, assign it Required to a pilot group, and choose update ownership deliberately. Move to a Win32 package when you need advanced detection, cleanup, dependencies, or strict lifecycle control.
