The Dell G15 5515 is a 2021 gaming-laptop platform, not one fixed configuration. Its Ryzen 7/RTX 3060 version with a 165 Hz display is the one to seek; RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti versions are much more limited by 4 GB of graphics memory and often ship with a dimmer 120 Hz panel. In 2026, buy one only when the exact GPU, screen, battery condition, charger and price make sense against newer RTX 4050 laptops.
Quick verdict: which G15 5515 is worth buying?
- Best pick: Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3060 with 6 GB VRAM, and the 165 Hz display. It has the most useful gaming headroom in the range.
- Conditional pick: Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3050 Ti, but only at a substantial discount, preferably with 16 GB dual-channel RAM and a healthy battery.
- Lowest-tier pick: Ryzen 5 5600H and RTX 3050. Consider it only at a low price; the 4 GB GPU and common 120 Hz panel are the constraints, not the processor alone.
The strongest review evidence concerns a Ryzen 7/RTX 3050 Ti configuration, not the RTX 3060 model. Notebookcheck scored that tested unit 82.7% (“good”), praising sustained performance and thermals while identifying the screen as its largest weakness. Its 2021-era gaming results should not be treated as a forecast for games released in 2026. Notebookcheck’s G15 5515 review
Configurations and specifications
Dell offered several combinations, and used listings often omit the distinctions that matter most. Verify the installed GPU and panel rather than relying on “G15 5515” in the title. Dell’s official specifications separate some details by graphics configuration.
| Configuration | Graphics and memory | Typical screen | Buying take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 5 5600H | RTX 3050, 4 GB GDDR6 | Often 15.6-inch 1080p, 120 Hz | Entry-level 1080p gaming; buy only at a low price. |
| Ryzen 7 5800H | RTX 3050 Ti, 4 GB GDDR6 | Often 15.6-inch 1080p, 120 Hz | Faster CPU and modestly stronger GPU than the 3050 tier, but still limited by 4 GB VRAM. |
| Ryzen 7 5800H | RTX 3060, 6 GB GDDR6 | Often 15.6-inch 1080p, 165 Hz; verify listing | The most desirable gaming configuration; do not assume every RTX 3060 listing has the 165 Hz panel. |
Across the range, the processors are 2021-generation Zen 3 mobile chips: the Ryzen 5 5600H has 6 cores and 12 threads, while the Ryzen 7 5800H has 8 cores and 16 threads. The Ryzen 7 remains capable for everyday productivity, compiling and GPU-assisted work, though it is no longer a standout CPU by 2026 standards.

The laptop uses a 15.6-inch, 16:9, 1920×1080 anti-glare, non-touch display. Both 120 Hz and 165 Hz panels were offered. The common 120 Hz panel is rated around 250 nits; the 165 Hz option is associated with about 300 nits and wider color coverage on some configurations. Actual panel characteristics should be checked for the specific machine. A Best Buy sheet for one Ryzen 7/RTX 3050 Ti configuration lists a 120 Hz, 250-nit display: configuration sheet. Dell’s materials also identify the 120 Hz and 165 Hz options: display specifications.
Memory is DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM, with two slots; original systems commonly came with 8 GB or 16 GB. For gaming, target 16 GB in dual-channel. A machine with 8 GB needs a lower purchase price that accounts for upgrading. M.2 PCIe NVMe storage was commonly 512 GB or 1 TB. A 512 GB drive fills quickly with Windows, launchers and large games.
Battery capacity varies: some configurations use 56 Wh, while higher-end systems and some RTX 3050 Ti builds use 86 Wh. Do not infer capacity from the CPU or GPU alone. The chassis is approximately 357 mm wide, 272 mm deep and 24.9 mm thick. Weight depends on configuration and battery; Notebookcheck measured its RTX 3050 Ti unit at about 2.43 kg (5.36 lb), before the substantial power adapter. Notebookcheck’s tested-unit specifications
Gaming performance: RTX 3050, 3050 Ti and 3060
RTX 3050
The 4 GB RTX 3050 is best viewed as an entry-level 1080p GPU. It can suit older and competitive games at medium-to-high settings, but demanding newer titles may call for lower textures, reduced effects or upscaling. Ray tracing is generally a compromise on this tier.

The 3050 Ti is a modest step up, not a different performance class: it still has 4 GB VRAM. That capacity can restrict texture quality and ray tracing, particularly in newer games or when using an external high-resolution display. DLSS can help in supported games, but cannot remove the memory ceiling.
RTX 3060
The RTX 3060 is the meaningful upgrade. Its 6 GB VRAM and higher performance ceiling make it a better fit for demanding 1080p games and the 165 Hz screen. It is still an older GPU, so compare the asking price with newer RTX 4050 and RTX 4060 laptops rather than assuming the Dell is a bargain.
There is no single reliable frame-rate figure for every G15 5515. GPU power limits, RAM arrangement, driver, game version, settings and thermal condition all affect results. Notebookcheck reported smooth Full HD play at high or maximum settings in the games it tested at the time on a Ryzen 7/RTX 3050 Ti review unit; that is historical review evidence, not a guarantee for all current releases. Review findings and test context
Display quality: check the actual panel
120 Hz
The 120 Hz panel is smoother than a standard 60 Hz screen and usable indoors, but its roughly 250-nit rating is modest for bright rooms. Notebookcheck criticized the tested panel’s brightness, contrast and color coverage, and detected PWM flicker at some brightness levels. It is a poor choice for color-sensitive photo or video work.

The 165 Hz option is preferable for competitive gaming and is associated with better brightness and color coverage, but it remains a 1080p screen rather than a modern high-resolution, wide-gamut panel. Confirm the installed refresh rate and panel condition with the seller; a model’s advertised maximum option does not prove that a particular used unit has it.

Thermals, noise and battery life
Notebookcheck found noticeable warmth under sustained load, noise within the expected range for a gaming laptop, and quiet behavior during light use. Its tested unit maintained performance without a major sustained-performance failure. Those observations apply to the review machine, not every used example: dust, fan wear, old thermal compound, room temperature, BIOS and power settings can change behavior.
Notebookcheck measured roughly 8–9 hours of realistic battery life on its review configuration and test methodology, an unusually strong result for a gaming laptop of that period. It is not a sensible expectation for an aged battery in 2026. Ask for the battery’s design and full-charge capacities, and consider a runtime test; actual capacity can matter more than whether the original battery was 56 Wh or 86 Wh.
Upgradeability, ports and repair checks
RAM, M.2 SSD, wireless module, battery and cooling components are accessible beneath the bottom cover. The cover can be tightly secured, so use care when opening it. Notebookcheck noted that storage could be upgraded, though the 512 GB fitted to its review unit was meager. Dell hosts the G15 5515 manuals and service documentation for owners planning maintenance.
Ports differ by graphics configuration. Dell lists USB 2.0, USB 2.0 with PowerShare, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode, USB 3.2, HDMI, Ethernet, power input and a headset/microphone jack for RTX 3050/3050 Ti systems. The RTX 3060 arrangement differs and includes a USB-C/Thunderbolt 4-capable port per Dell’s specifications. Do not assume Thunderbolt 4 on every 5515.
Ask whether the original Dell adapter is included, particularly for an RTX 3060 model. An unsuitable replacement can trigger charging warnings, reduced performance or battery drain while gaming. Also check that SSD mounting hardware or brackets have not been lost after prior upgrades.

- Identify the exact configuration: obtain confirmation of CPU, GPU, VRAM and installed screen refresh rate. Do not infer these from the model name or listing photos alone.
- Inspect memory and storage: confirm RAM capacity and whether it is dual-channel; check SSD capacity and health. Factor an upgrade into the offer if it has only 8 GB or a small drive.
- Check battery condition: request design capacity, full-charge capacity and cycle count if available, or a battery-label/BIOS photo. Test unplugged runtime if possible.
- Verify the charger: confirm it is a genuine Dell unit of the appropriate wattage, especially for RTX 3060 models.
- Test the screen and chassis: inspect for dead pixels, uneven backlight, scratches, hinge looseness, cracks and missing screws. Check keyboard, trackpad and every port.
- Listen and load-test: check for grinding or rattling fans and run a game or GPU stress test long enough to spot crashes, artifacts or abnormal temperatures.
- Confirm software and recourse: verify Windows activation, working drivers, BIOS status, any remaining warranty and whether the warranty can transfer. Prefer a seller with a return window.
A worn battery can be acceptable at the right discount; hinge damage, failing fans, an unverified GPU, a generic charger or no practical return option can turn a cheap listing into an expensive repair. Condition and recourse matter more than a small CPU-tier difference.
Deals and price comparisons in 2026
Most G15 5515 choices are used or refurbished listings, so a single “best price” is not meaningful without the GPU, display, battery health, condition and seller terms. Compare the complete cost—including needed RAM or SSD upgrades and likely battery replacement—with newer RTX 4050 systems; if the price gap to an RTX 4060 laptop is small, the older platform is harder to justify.

- Used or refurbished marketplace: search results can include RTX 3060 and RTX 3050 Ti variants, but listings, prices and condition change by seller. Dell 5515 marketplace search and Dell G15 laptop search.
- New old stock or open-box: verify the exact installed panel and battery, return terms, and warranty in writing. The old model name alone does not establish that a listing is new or covered.
- Compare the model number carefully: a current or live Dell result for a G15 5511 is a different machine, not a 5515. A Dell US page captured for the 5511 listed an i7-11800H, RTX 3060, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 165 Hz display and 86 Wh battery at $1,099.99, with a promotion through August 30, 2026; this is a dated comparison point, not a 5515 deal. Dell G15 5511 page.
For context only, Notebookcheck reported a launch-era price of about $1,090 for a Ryzen 7/RTX 3050 Ti configuration with 8 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. That is historical pricing, not a current used-market value. Notebookcheck review
Who should buy it—and who should pass?
- Buy the RTX 3060/165 Hz version when it is clean, has a suitable charger and battery, and costs materially less than comparable new RTX 4050 laptops.
- Consider the RTX 3050 Ti version at a substantial discount, especially if it already has 16 GB dual-channel RAM, adequate SSD space, a healthy battery and a return window.
- Usually skip the RTX 3050 version when its price approaches a current entry-level gaming laptop, particularly if it has 8 GB RAM and the 120 Hz panel.
- Choose another class of machine if portability, strong color accuracy, modern ray tracing, long manufacturer warranty or dependable all-day battery life is a priority. Lenovo Legion 5, ASUS TUF A15 and HP Victus are useful comparison families, but compare specific configurations and actual local prices.
As of 2026, the G15 5515 is best treated as a configuration-specific used purchase, not a single product with one universal verdict. Its RTX 3060 version can still make sense at the right price; its 4 GB variants need a steeper discount and realistic expectations.
