Dell’s consumer Dell 14 Plus is available with AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processors and Windows 11 Copilot+ support. The chips were developed under AMD’s “Krackan Point” codename, but that is not the name buyers will see on the laptop. Whether the 14 Plus is affordable depends on the exact configuration and sale: US listings observed on August 16, 2026 ranged from $1,419.99 to $1,769.99.
The lineup also includes a separate 14 Plus 2-in-1 convertible. Neither model should be confused with Dell’s business-focused Pro 14 Plus, and the 50-TOPS NPU is for supported AI features—not a substitute for a discrete graphics card.
Which Dell 14 Plus is this?
The AMD-powered conventional laptop is the Dell 14 Plus DB14255. Dell lists it with either the Ryzen AI 5 340 or Ryzen AI 7 350, integrated Radeon graphics, and Windows 11 Home as a Copilot+ PC. The US configuration documented by Dell has a 14-inch, 1920×1200 non-touch display.

Dell also sells the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 (DB04255), a convertible with a touchscreen and active-pen support. Its brochure lists a 14-inch 1920×1200, 60Hz display rated at 300 nits and 45% NTSC. Processor naming and availability vary by region: Dell lists Ryzen AI 5 H 340 and Ryzen AI 7 H 350 for China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The Dell Pro 14 Plus is a different commercial product. It uses Ryzen AI PRO processors and is aimed at businesses seeking enterprise security and manageability features; it is not simply another name for the consumer DB14255. (AMD’s Dell commercial partnership overview)
What “Krackan Point” means
Krackan Point is AMD’s former codename for these processors. Their retail family name is Ryzen AI 300 Series. AMD lists both the Ryzen AI 5 340 and Ryzen AI 7 350 with a February 18, 2025 launch date and identifies Krackan Point as their former codename. Both chips have the same headline NPU rating. The Ryzen AI 7’s advantages are its two additional CPU cores and its Radeon 860M graphics, rather than a higher stated NPU throughput. Choose the Ryzen AI 5 for everyday school, office, browsing, and video-call workloads if it saves a meaningful amount. Consider the Ryzen AI 7 for heavier multitasking or light creative work, especially if it comes with 32GB of memory at a reasonable premium.
AMD gives both processors a 28W default TDP and a configurable 15–54W range. Those figures do not guarantee identical performance in every laptop: Dell’s cooling, firmware, power limits, and workload all matter. What Copilot+ and a 50-TOPS NPU actually promise
Microsoft uses a 40-TOPS NPU threshold for Copilot+ PCs, and Dell identifies the DB14255 as a Copilot+ PC. A 50-TOPS NPU gives supported software a local AI processor to use for compatible tasks, which can include Windows Studio Effects and other supported camera, microphone, or Windows AI features. TOPS is a throughput measure, not a promise that every AI task will be faster, run locally, or work without an internet connection. Cloud-based Copilot and web AI services may still rely on remote servers. Nor does the NPU make this a workstation for training AI models, running large local models, or professional 3D work. Those workloads may need substantially more memory and a powerful discrete GPU.

The everyday trade-offs
- Screen: A 1920×1200, 300-nit panel is a practical resolution for documents and general productivity, but it is not especially bright. The 2-in-1 brochure’s 45% NTSC rating is a caution for color-critical work. Confirm the exact screen specification if you edit photos or video, work in bright environments, or are comparing it with a higher-resolution option.
- Memory: 16GB can handle ordinary school and office use. If you keep a laptop for several years, run development tools or virtual machines, or routinely work with many applications open, 32GB offers more headroom. LPDDR5X memory is commonly soldered; check the exact SKU’s upgradeability rather than planning on adding memory later.
- Storage: 512GB can be enough for office work and cloud-based files. A 1TB option provides more room for local media and development projects. Confirm whether the SSD can be replaced before treating it as an upgrade path.
- Ports: The listed HDMI 1.4 limit can matter if you expect to connect a high-resolution external monitor over HDMI. Check the USB-C video output and dock requirements too.
- Battery: A 64Wh capacity is a specification, not a battery-life result. Actual runtime depends on screen settings, workload, wireless use, and configuration; the cited product information does not establish a tested runtime.
- Graphics: Radeon 840M and 860M are integrated GPUs. They are suitable for everyday graphics and lighter workloads, but do not buy this laptop expecting a discrete-GPU gaming or creator machine.
US price snapshot: configuration matters
In US Dell listings observed on August 16, 2026, DB14255 prices included $1,419.99 and $1,499.99 on alternate listings, and $1,769.99 for a Ryzen AI 7 350 configuration with 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. These are dated listing prices, not launch MSRPs or a guaranteed starting price. That spread is why “affordable” needs context. The 14 Plus may be attractive at a competitive sale price, but an expensive high-memory configuration should be compared with other laptops on screen quality, build, battery performance, upgrade options, and warranty—not just the NPU number. Do not apply an older promotion for an Intel Dell 14 Plus to this AMD model.
Who is it for?
- Students and office users: A good potential match for documents, web research, calls, and everyday multitasking, particularly when the Ryzen AI 5 version is discounted. Consider 32GB if your workload is demanding and the price difference is sensible.
- Light creators: The Ryzen AI 7 and Radeon 860M may suit modest editing or creative tasks, but the integrated GPU and the exact panel are important limits. Check color coverage before buying for color-sensitive work.
- People who need pen input: Look at the separate DB04255 2-in-1 if handwriting, tablet mode, or touch is central to how you work. Its 300-nit, 45% NTSC display is a notable compromise for color work.
- Gamers and AI developers: Look elsewhere if you need strong AAA gaming, large local AI models, or GPU-accelerated professional software. A 50-TOPS NPU does not fill the role of a discrete GPU.
- Business IT buyers: Compare the commercial Dell Pro 14 Plus if fleet management, business security, and support are requirements. The consumer DB14255 is not the same platform.
Verdict
The AMD Dell 14 Plus is best understood as a mainstream 14-inch productivity laptop with Copilot+ eligibility and useful on-device AI hardware—not as a bargain AI workstation. Its most convincing buy is likely a sensibly priced configuration that pairs the Ryzen AI 5 340 with enough memory for the intended lifespan, or a Ryzen AI 7 350 model when the extra CPU cores, stronger integrated graphics, and 32GB memory justify the premium. The exact screen and sale price deserve as much scrutiny as the processor badge.
