It concentrated on user-reported bug fixes, desktop and settings refinements, a broader application store, preinstalled Steam, and the debut of Deepin Cloud Print. It was not a Linux-kernel breakthrough, and it is now an obsolete historical release rather than a current deepin version.
The official announcement, “deepin 15.1——Never Stop To Be Better”, describes a correction edition intended to improve deepin’s own desktop, tools, and distribution components.
What deepin 15.1 changed
Deepin organized the release around four goals: fixing issues reported through Deepin Feedback, optimizing system modules, expanding the application repository, and adding Deepin Cloud Print. The detailed change list shows a polish-and-reliability update rather than a wholesale redesign.
Dock and Launcher
- The Dock received a better display state when a mobile device was mounted.
- Incorrect Dock hidden-status behavior was fixed.
- Some system-tray items that failed to appear were restored.
- The Launcher’s blue notification dot now cleared correctly after opening a new application.
- Uninstalled applications were removed from the Launcher more promptly.
Control Center and desktop settings
- Control Center auto-hide failures were addressed.
- Missing avatars and failure to highlight the logged-in user were fixed on some machines.
- Default-application icons were corrected.
- The first launch of Personalization was optimized after reports of slow startup.
- Network settings that failed to save and wireless cards that did not function normally were addressed.
- Continuous sound effects while changing audio settings were fixed, as were blank Sound modules on some systems.
- Power-management settings were corrected under some language environments.
- Keyboard shortcuts that reset themselves to “none” were addressed.
Other system fixes
- Hidden files appearing on some desktops were corrected.
- Memory leaks under certain conditions were fixed.
- Android applications failing on 32-bit systems were addressed.
These items are specific fixes reported by Deepin; they do not establish universal hardware compatibility or a measured performance gain for every computer.

Steam and the Deepin Store
Deepin said it had established a cooperative relationship with Valve and would preinstall Steam. That is a historical packaging claim: preinstallation does not prove that every graphics driver, game, controller, or 32-bit configuration worked without additional setup.
The Store added or highlighted Straight Flush, WizNote, Android Studio, AliWangwang, and other applications Deepin described as popular or “hot.” It also received several usability changes:

- A prompt could identify applications unsupported by the current system.
- Category descriptions and sorting were revised.
- Window layout and text selection were refined.
- A problem preventing maximization on some low-resolution screens was fixed.
- Installation-progress animation was made smoother.
What Deepin Cloud Print was supposed to do
Deepin introduced Cloud Print as a new application family member and an “enterprise printer” solution. The announcement described a combination of cloud networking and authorization intended to let desktops, laptops, some tablets, and other authorized devices print more easily, addressing what Deepin characterized as Linux printing problems.
That description is a vendor claim, not an independently verified evaluation. The release announcement does not specify supported printer brands or models, whether a local driver was required, where documents were processed, which encryption or authentication protocol was used, or whether the service was free, subscription-based, region-limited, or enterprise-only. It also does not establish that the service remained available after the deepin 15 era.

Cloud printing can centralize printer access and authorization, but it also introduces questions about network dependence, document privacy, geographic availability, vendor support, and compatibility. The historical announcement linked the Cloud Print item to a MEGA-hosted resource; that old link is not evidence that the service is operational or safe to use in 2026.
How deepin 15.1 was obtained in 2016
Deepin listed bootable 32-bit and 64-bit images, Deepin Boot Maker, and several distribution channels: SourceForge, MEGA, BitTorrent, Baidu Yun, and a community ISO repository. The original image checksums were:

Existing deepin Alpha 2-or-later installations were told to use Control Center → System Information for the upgrade. That menu path belongs to the historical interface and should not be assumed to exist in current deepin releases. Because the series is obsolete, do not treat archived download links or old update infrastructure as supported installation guidance.

On March 9, 2016, Deepin published deepin 15.1.1 after acknowledging boot problems caused by recent updates. The corrective image addressed desktop files not displaying normally, Launcher freezes, and Smart Hide not working.

Deepin said users could reinstall with the new image or update an existing deepin 15 installation through Control Center → System Information. For historical experimentation or emulation, 15.1.1 is the more appropriate target than the original 15.1 image, but it remains old software and should be isolated from important data.
What the release means in context
“Optimizations to Linux” in contemporary coverage should be read as improvements to Deepin’s Linux distribution and desktop stack, not as a project to optimize the Linux kernel or Linux as a whole. The release’s significance was its integration strategy: a smoother desktop, a curated application ecosystem, Steam included by default, and an ambitious cloud-connected printing product.
Its limitations are equally important. The release notes provide no performance benchmark, no complete printer compatibility list, and no security architecture for Cloud Print. The subsequent 15.1.1 image also shows why a point release should not automatically be treated as risk-free or universally stable.
