DDU v18.4.6 could not be verified as an official Wagnardsoft release. The official release material located as of August 18, 2026 identifies Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) v18.1.5.4, released on May 29, 2026. Download DDU only from the official Wagnardsoft release page, not from a page offering an unverified “v18.4.6” executable.
This guide explains how to verify the download and use DDU safely on Windows 10 and Windows 11 when a driver installation has failed, driver remnants are causing problems, or you are switching between NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel graphics.
Does DDU v18.4.6 exist?
No official Wagnardsoft release named DDU v18.4.6 was verified in the available release material. The official version located was DDU v18.1.5.4, dated May 29, 2026. An earlier official release was v18.1.5.1, dated April 5, 2026.
“18.4.6” may be a typo, confusion with another application’s version number, or a label used by an unauthorized download page. Search results for that number also refer to unrelated software, including DaVinci Resolve and Adobe After Effects. That does not prove that every file labeled v18.4.6 is malicious, but its official DDU status is unverified. Do not run it simply because a third-party site uses the name.

Download the official DDU release
Use the Wagnardsoft DDU v18.1.5.4 release page or the official Wagnardsoft website. The release provides:
- Portable/self-extracting and installer packages
- Support for Windows 7 through Windows 11, including Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Support for NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel graphics
- Basic Realtek audio-driver cleanup
- A requirement for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later
- Published SHA-256 hashes for package verification
The portable package is usually the better choice for a one-time repair or technician toolkit. Extract it completely to a folder on a local drive, then run DDU from that folder. Choose the installer if you expect to use DDU repeatedly and want a conventional Start-menu or desktop shortcut. Do not run it from a network drive, cloud-synchronized OneDrive folder, or directly inside a compressed archive.
Verify the download
Compare the downloaded file’s SHA-256 hash with the value published on the official release page. A matching hash does not make an unofficial version official, but it helps confirm that the file matches the package published by Wagnardsoft.

Some antivirus products may report false positives for DDU. Do not disable security software indiscriminately. First confirm that the file came from Wagnardsoft and that its hash matches. If a temporary exclusion is required by the developer’s instructions, limit it to the local DDU folder and remove it afterward. See the DDU project information on GitHub.
What DDU does
Display Driver Uninstaller is a specialized utility that attempts to remove graphics-driver packages and related leftovers, including files, folders, registry entries, and driver-store components. It supports NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel graphics and offers limited Realtek audio-driver cleanup.

DDU is not a graphics driver and does not install the replacement driver. It is most useful when a normal uninstall is insufficient, a driver installation repeatedly fails, a new driver causes instability, or you are switching GPU vendors. It is not normally necessary for every routine driver update. Wagnardsoft recommends using it for a specific troubleshooting reason rather than automatically before every installation.
Prepare before running DDU
- Download the replacement driver first. Use the exact GPU model and Windows edition. NVIDIA users can use the NVIDIA driver search. AMD users should use the official AMD Support site and select the exact Radeon model. Intel users can consult Intel’s DDU procedure, while laptop owners should also check their computer manufacturer’s support page.
- Create a restore point or backup. DDU makes substantial system changes, so have a recovery path before starting.
- Record the exact GPU model. This is especially important on laptops with integrated and discrete graphics.
- Disconnect the internet. Turn off Wi-Fi or unplug Ethernet before cleanup. This reduces the chance that Windows Update installs a generic or older driver before you install the intended one.
- Prepare your Windows password. On some Windows 11 24H2 systems, a PIN may not work in Safe Mode. Sign in with the account password in normal Windows at least once. If necessary, review Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and temporarily disable the setting that allows only Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts.
- Keep the BitLocker recovery key available. Windows may request it during the Safe Mode process. Do not repeatedly reboot if BitLocker recovery appears; use the recovery key.
How to use DDU on Windows 10 or Windows 11
1. Enter Safe Mode
Safe Mode is Wagnardsoft’s preferred environment for DDU because fewer driver and background components are active.

- Select Troubleshoot.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Startup Settings.
- Select Restart.
- Press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode.
Microsoft’s exact recovery labels can change between Windows builds, so consult its current Safe Mode guidance if the menu differs.
2. Launch DDU locally
In Safe Mode, extract the portable package fully or launch the installed version. Review the initial Options window and close it. Set the device type to GPU, then select the vendor whose driver you intend to remove: NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
Do not casually select every GPU on a laptop. Integrated graphics may control the internal display, external ports, battery behavior, docking, and manufacturer-specific features.

3. Choose the correct cleanup action
Select Clean and restart for the normal driver-replacement workflow. DDU will remove the selected driver and restart Windows.
Use Clean and shutdown when you are powering down to remove a graphics card or install a different physical GPU.
After the cleanup restart, install the replacement driver you downloaded earlier. Reconnect the internet only when the new driver is ready to install, then restart Windows again.
4. Confirm the result
Open Device Manager and expand Display adapters, or open the relevant NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel control application. Confirm that the expected GPU and driver version are present. Windows may temporarily show Microsoft Basic Display Adapter or a low-resolution display until the manufacturer driver is installed.
Can DDU run outside Safe Mode?
Yes, but Safe Mode is preferred. If you must use normal Windows, Wagnardsoft recommends a more cautious repeated procedure: clean, restart, clean again, and restart again. Normal mode is not automatically unsafe, but active driver components can make cleanup less consistent.

Important laptop and hybrid-graphics warning
Many laptops use both integrated and discrete GPUs. Removing the wrong driver can affect the internal panel, external displays, battery life, docking, sleep behavior, or OEM hotkeys. Select only the vendor and device you actually intend to remove.
For a laptop, the manufacturer’s customized driver may be more compatible than a generic NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel package. Do not remove every GPU driver unless you are deliberately performing a full reset and already have all required replacement packages.

The PIN does not work in Safe Mode
Use the account password instead. Windows 11 24H2 can present this problem when a user normally signs in only with a Windows Hello PIN. Sign in with the password in normal mode first and review Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
BitLocker asks for a recovery key
Enter the BitLocker recovery key associated with the encrypted drive. This is why the key should be located before entering Safe Mode.
Windows installs a driver before you can
Windows Update may install a generic or older driver after cleanup. Disconnect Wi-Fi or Ethernet before running DDU, then install the intended driver while offline. Reconnect only afterward.

DDU will not launch or crashes
- Confirm the package came from Wagnardsoft.
- Compare its SHA-256 hash with the official release page.
- Extract the portable package completely instead of running it inside an archive.
- Move it to a local drive rather than a network or OneDrive-synchronized folder.
- Try Safe Mode and close GPU-control or hardware-monitoring utilities.
- If the problem continues, use the GPU manufacturer’s normal uninstall or clean-install option.
The screen is stuck at low resolution
This is expected until the replacement driver is installed. Run the manufacturer’s driver package, restart, and check Device Manager for an error code. If installation fails, try the vendor’s clean-install option or a known-good older driver.
The driver still crashes after reinstalling
DDU cannot repair defective hardware, overheating, unstable overclocking or undervolting, bad display cables, power-supply problems, BIOS or firmware issues, Windows corruption, game bugs, or incorrect laptop OEM drivers. If the same failure returns after a clean installation, investigate those causes instead of repeatedly running DDU.
Do you need DDU for every driver update?
No. For a routine update from the same vendor that is working normally, the manufacturer’s installer is usually sufficient. Windows Apps settings, Device Manager, or the vendor’s built-in clean-install option may be more appropriate for an ordinary update.

DDU is a stronger reset tool. Use it when a normal installation fails, an update causes persistent crashes or artifacts, remnants remain after uninstalling, or you are changing between NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel hardware. These alternatives may not remove the same residual components as DDU.
