Cyberpunk 2077 and FragPunk both support NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation, but the feature is not a new August 2026 release. Cyberpunk 2077 added native support with PC Patch 2.21 on January 30, 2025, while FragPunk launched with DLSS 4 support on March 6, 2025. Multi-Frame Generation requires a GeForce RTX 50-series GPU; RTX 40-series cards support standard DLSS Frame Generation and other DLSS improvements, but not native Multi-Frame Generation.
The technology can make a game look substantially smoother, especially at 4K with ray tracing. However, its displayed frame rate includes AI-generated frames, so it should not be confused with the game being rendered natively at the same frame rate.

What DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation actually does
DLSS 4 is a collection of technologies rather than one graphics setting. Its components can include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- DLSS Super Resolution: renders internally at a lower resolution and uses AI to reconstruct a higher-resolution image.
- DLSS Frame Generation: creates one additional frame between traditionally rendered frames. It is supported on compatible RTX 40- and RTX 50-series GPUs.
- DLSS Multi-Frame Generation: creates up to three additional frames for each traditionally rendered frame. This is the RTX 50-series feature.
- Ray Reconstruction: uses AI to improve denoising for ray-traced lighting and reflections.
- DLAA: applies DLSS anti-aliasing at native resolution instead of upscaling from a lower internal resolution.
- Transformer models: newer AI models designed to improve temporal stability, detail, ghosting and overall image quality.
With Multi-Frame Generation enabled, a game might conventionally render one frame and then display several AI-generated frames before the next traditionally rendered frame arrives. That can greatly increase the number shown by an FPS counter, but the game simulation and input sampling are not running at the generated frame rate.

In practical terms, Multi-Frame Generation is most useful when the underlying rendered frame rate is already reasonably high and stable. It is not a substitute for sufficient GPU or CPU performance.
Cyberpunk 2077 support
Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21, released for PC on January 30, 2025, added native DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation support. The update also brought DLSS improvements for Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and DLAA.
On an RTX 50-series GPU, Cyberpunk can offer selectable 2x, 3x and 4x Multi-Frame Generation modes, depending on the game and driver version. CD Projekt Red also documents a choice between Transformer and CNN models. The Transformer model is the newer option, but comparing both can be useful if a particular scene produces ghosting, flicker or other artifacts.
The feature is particularly relevant to Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, Cyberpunk 2077’s path-traced lighting mode. Path tracing can place a heavy load on the GPU, making DLSS upscaling and frame generation useful at 1440p or 4K. It does not make the underlying path-traced workload disappear, though: the GPU still has to render the traditionally generated frames.
Patch 2.21 also included fixes involving ray-reconstruction artifacts and smudging on in-game screens. That is a reminder that newer AI models can reduce certain problems without eliminating every artifact in every scene.
FragPunk support
FragPunk launched on March 6, 2025 with DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation, conventional Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, ray-traced effects and NVIDIA Reflex. Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, it did not receive the feature only through a later major graphics patch; DLSS 4 was part of its launch feature set.
NVIDIA’s FragPunk announcement cites testing at 4K, maximum settings and ray tracing enabled. That makes the feature relevant for high-resolution play, but competitive FragPunk players should judge it differently from single-player Cyberpunk players.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In a competitive shooter, average FPS is only one part of the experience. Input latency, frame pacing, minimum frame rates and visual clarity matter at least as much. NVIDIA Reflex should be enabled where available, and the highest Multi-Frame Generation multiplier is not automatically the best choice for competitive play. A smoother image can still feel less responsive if the underlying rendered frame rate is low or the frame pacing is uneven.
How large is the performance boost?
NVIDIA advertises the following results in its controlled test scenarios:
| Game | Claim | Test conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Up to 9.2x average performance | 4K, RT Overdrive, maximum settings, RTX 50-series GPU |
| FragPunk | Up to 4.6x average performance | 4K, maximum settings, ray tracing enabled, RTX 50-series GPU |
| DLSS 4 scenarios generally | Up to 8x over brute-force rendering | NVIDIA representative test scenarios |
These are vendor-reported maximum results, not universal gameplay guarantees. The multiplier can include the combined effect of lower-resolution rendering, Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation. Results vary with the GPU model, CPU, resolution, ray-tracing settings, DLSS mode, scene complexity and baseline used for comparison.
A game producing four times the displayed FPS is not necessarily responding four times faster. Generated frames improve visual smoothness, but they do not represent four times as many traditionally rendered frames or four times as many updates from the game simulation.
NVIDIA also reports latency reductions in its Cyberpunk 2077 and FragPunk testing. Those figures should be treated as test-specific claims rather than guarantees for every PC, monitor, driver and configuration.
Which GPUs support it?
| GPU family | Multi-Frame Generation | Other relevant DLSS features |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 50 series | Yes, in compatible games | Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, DLAA and newer models |
| GeForce RTX 40 series | No native Multi-Frame Generation | Super Resolution, standard Frame Generation, Reflex and newer supported models |
| GeForce RTX 20/30 series | No | DLSS Super Resolution in compatible games; support varies by feature |
| AMD and Intel GPUs | No NVIDIA DLSS Multi-Frame Generation | May use their own upscaling or frame-generation technologies where supported |
A current NVIDIA driver and a compatible game build are also required. An RTX 50-series label does not mean every card delivers the same result: the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, 5070 and lower models differ significantly in native rendering performance, VRAM and their ability to sustain a high base frame rate.
How to enable DLSS Multi-Frame Generation
Cyberpunk 2077
- Update the game to Patch 2.21 or later.
- Install the latest NVIDIA Game Ready driver.
- Launch the game and open Settings → Graphics.
- Enable DLSS Super Resolution.
- Enable Frame Generation.
- On an RTX 50-series GPU, select the available 2x, 3x or 4x Multi-Frame Generation mode.
- Enable NVIDIA Reflex if the option is available.
- For ray-traced modes, test DLSS Ray Reconstruction.
- If the setting does not appear after updating, restart the game.
Cyberpunk also lets users compare the Transformer and CNN model options. Use the Transformer model first, then test the CNN option if a particular scene shows distracting artifacts.
FragPunk
- Update FragPunk through its launcher.
- Install the latest NVIDIA driver.
- Open the game’s video or graphics settings.
- Enable DLSS Super Resolution.
- Enable Frame Generation or Multi-Frame Generation where offered.
- Enable NVIDIA Reflex.
- Test the result using an FPS counter and actual latency-sensitive gameplay.
Menu wording can change between FragPunk builds, so the exact label may differ. NVIDIA confirms the supported feature set, but its announcement does not establish one permanent menu path for every later version of the game.
NVIDIA App overrides
For games without native support, NVIDIA documents an override path through the NVIDIA App:
- Open NVIDIA App.
- Go to Graphics.
- Select Program Settings.
- Choose the game.
- Open Driver Settings.
- Apply the relevant DLSS override.
Possible overrides include Multi-Frame Generation for RTX 50-series cards, the updated Frame Generation model for RTX 40- and 50-series cards, Transformer Model upgrades, DLAA and Ultra Performance options. For Cyberpunk 2077 and FragPunk, native in-game support should generally be preferred because it is more likely to provide correct compatibility, UI handling and frame pacing.

Cyberpunk 2077
Multi-Frame Generation is most compelling in Cyberpunk when using path tracing or demanding ray-tracing settings at 1440p or 4K on an RTX 50-series system. Start with the lowest available multiplier that produces the smoothness you want. If the base frame rate is already stable, 3x or 4x may be useful for a high-refresh display; if the underlying frame rate is low, the result may feel less responsive despite the larger FPS number.
If image quality and latency are more important than smoothness, try DLSS Super Resolution without Frame Generation and compare it with native rendering. Lowering ray-tracing quality can also be a better compromise than using an aggressive upscaling mode.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →FragPunk
For casual or visually focused FragPunk play, Multi-Frame Generation can make motion appear smoother on a high-refresh display. For serious competitive play, start with a strong native frame rate, stable frame times and Reflex. Compare standard rendering, standard Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation rather than assuming the largest displayed FPS figure is best.
Disable the feature if aiming feels delayed, fast camera movement produces artifacts, or frame pacing is inconsistent. A stable, lower FPS number can be preferable to a much higher generated number that feels less predictable.
DLSS 4 and DLSS 4.5 in 2026
NVIDIA’s current product messaging has moved toward DLSS 4.5. It adds Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation, a 6X mode and a second-generation Transformer model. As a result, RTX 50-series owners may encounter DLSS 4.5 terminology in current NVIDIA software even though the original Cyberpunk 2077 and FragPunk support arrived in 2025.
That does not mean every DLSS 4.5 feature is automatically available in both games. Availability can depend on the game build, driver and NVIDIA App implementation. The safe distinction is that the games have established DLSS 4 support, while specific newer DLSS 4.5 modes should be checked in the current game and driver settings.

The option is missing
- Confirm that the GPU is an RTX 50-series card for Multi-Frame Generation.
- Check that the game is using the discrete GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Install the latest Game Ready driver.
- Enable DLSS Super Resolution first.
- Enable standard Frame Generation before looking for Multi-Frame Generation.
- Restart the game after installing a driver or game update.
- On a laptop, check Windows graphics settings, firmware and power mode.
- For Cyberpunk, verify that the game is running Patch 2.21 or later.
The FPS is high but the game feels sluggish
Check the base rendered frame rate, CPU usage, frame times and display synchronization. Then enable Reflex, reduce the Multi-Frame Generation multiplier, lower ray-tracing or path-tracing settings, and use a frame-rate cap appropriate for the monitor. Temporarily disable Frame Generation to establish a native baseline.
Visual artifacts appear
Test the technologies separately:
- Leave Super Resolution enabled but disable Frame Generation.
- Compare Ray Reconstruction on and off.
- In Cyberpunk, compare the Transformer and CNN models.
- Try a lower Multi-Frame Generation mode.
- If the issue began immediately after a driver update, test a newer driver or roll back to the previous stable version.
DLSS 4 is designed to reduce certain artifacts, not eliminate every possible issue. Ghosting, HUD artifacts, smearing during camera movement, flicker in fine geometry and uneven pacing can still depend on the scene and implementation.
Is an RTX 50-series upgrade worth it?
For Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with path tracing, an RTX 50-series card can make a meaningful difference. The feature is most valuable when the alternative is a demanding native-rendering workload and the system has enough GPU power to maintain a reasonable base frame rate.
For FragPunk alone, buying a high-end RTX 50-series card is harder to justify. Competitive players should prioritize stable native performance, low latency, Reflex, a suitable high-refresh monitor and good frame pacing. Multi-Frame Generation is an additional option, not a replacement for those fundamentals.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Existing RTX 40-series owners already have DLSS Super Resolution, standard Frame Generation, Reflex and supported newer DLSS models. An upgrade solely to obtain Multi-Frame Generation may not be worthwhile unless the system also needs substantially more native ray-tracing performance, VRAM or resolution headroom.
When choosing a new GPU, consider the full workload: resolution, ray-tracing settings, VRAM, CPU performance, power supply, monitor refresh rate and actual local pricing. NVIDIA’s original launch prices—such as $1,999 for the RTX 5090, $999 for the RTX 5080, $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti and $549 for the RTX 5070—are historical MSRP signals, not guarantees of current retail pricing.
For readers using AMD or Intel GPUs, alternatives such as FSR or XeSS may be available in individual games, but they do not provide access to NVIDIA DLSS Multi-Frame Generation. Feature support and image quality must be evaluated game by game.
