Our top choices

Best budget wired headset: HyperX Cloud III

At about $68.99, the Cloud III was the straightforward value choice for players who were comfortable with a cable. A wired headset avoids charging, battery aging, wireless pairing, and dongle compatibility questions, while the contemporary deal coverage highlighted its dual-chamber-driver design. That makes it a sensible pick for a controller-connected console, desktop, or laptop setup when the relevant port and cable are compatible.

Skip it if you want to move freely, connect to a phone over Bluetooth, or hear game audio and mobile audio together. Wired compatibility is not identical across every device: check whether you need a 3.5mm jack, a USB connection, or an adapter. Windows Central’s 2025 roundup named it a value wired option.

Best discounted wireless: Razer BlackShark V2 Pro

The reported $109.99 price—about 45% below the displayed $199.99 reference—made this the most dramatic discount among these picks. The headset supports 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth, giving it more flexibility than a wired-only model. Razer lists up to 70 hours of battery life on PC, with different figures for some console configurations; treat that as a manufacturer maximum rather than a promise of everyday runtime.

Check the version before buying. Razer lists PlayStation and Xbox variants, and the wireless standards and compatibility differ. The Xbox model may need a separate Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows; do not assume a USB dongle or Bluetooth alone makes it natively compatible with every Xbox or PC setup. Confirm the exact product’s platform support and included transmitter on Razer’s product page. Its current page may show different products or prices than the historical deal.

Best all-round multiplatform option: Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3

The Stealth 700 Gen 3 was listed around $149, down from $199.99. Its appeal was flexibility: the system includes two USB transmitters for switching between supported devices, and it can use 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth simultaneously. That can suit someone who wants game audio on a console or PC while staying connected to a phone.

Turtle Beach advertises up to 80 hours of battery life and about three hours of use from a 15-minute quick charge. Those are manufacturer claims and actual runtime varies with settings and use. The headset also has a flip-to-mute mic, app controls through Swarm II, and memory-foam cushions advertised as glasses-friendly. Comfort depends on fit, and the app’s extra controls are a consideration if you prefer to avoid companion software. Most importantly, the Xbox and PlayStation versions are distinct: check the platform selector and included transmitters on the official product page. These features make it a more flexible, but pricier, choice than the Cloud III.

Best gaming-earbud alternative: SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds

At about $149.99 versus a displayed $199.99, the Arctis GameBuds were the pick for players who dislike over-ear cups or want a smaller kit for travel. Contemporary coverage noted USB compatibility for Xbox and PC, alongside Bluetooth for mobile. Earbuds are a different category from headsets: the fit, seal, passive isolation, and comfort vary substantially by ear shape, and a Bluetooth connection should not be mistaken for low-latency wireless console audio.

Before choosing them, verify that the specific version supports your console through its included USB transmitter and that you are comfortable wearing in-ear buds for long sessions. Do not compare their price directly with an over-ear headset without accounting for the distinct fit and use case.

Best premium base-station setup: Astro A50 Gen 5

The Astro A50 Gen 5 fell to about $239.99 from $299.99. Its charging dock and multi-device switching are most useful at a desk or entertainment center, where the dock can stay in place and the headset can return to it between sessions. Contemporary coverage described support across PC, Xbox, and Bluetooth, but the exact console edition still matters.

This was not the value pick: even discounted, it cost substantially more than the other options and occupies space. Choose it for the docked setup and device-switching convenience, not merely because it was on sale. Check the edition and supported devices before purchase.

How to choose the right kind of deal

Wired or wireless?

A wired headset is usually cheaper, needs no charging, and can work simply through a compatible 3.5mm connection. It is a strong choice for a fixed console or PC setup, but the cable can snag or limit movement. Wireless costs more and adds a battery and often a USB transmitter, but avoids cable drag. A 2.4GHz dongle connection is generally the gaming-oriented wireless mode; Bluetooth is useful for phones and tablets, but should not be assumed to offer the same latency or microphone behavior for gaming.

Some higher-end models mix game audio and phone audio, but confirm that simultaneous use is explicitly supported. Also check whether the headset includes one or two transmitters and whether switching between devices requires moving a dongle. Battery capacity will decline with age, while software, firmware, and pairing can add setup steps.

Match the wireless system to the platform

  • Xbox: Xbox Wireless support is not interchangeable with ordinary Bluetooth or every USB audio transmitter. Look for the Xbox edition and confirm the exact console support.
  • PlayStation: Check that the model supports the relevant PlayStation console over USB audio or its stated wireless method; a headset marketed for Xbox may not be the same version.
  • PC: Confirm whether the connection is USB, 2.4GHz dongle, Bluetooth, or an Xbox Wireless Adapter. EQ, firmware, mic monitoring, or spatial features may require vendor software.
  • Switch, Steam Deck, and mobile: Check the connection method and microphone support for the particular device. Bluetooth availability by itself does not guarantee ideal latency or chat support.

When manufacturers or retailers say “multiplatform,” read the supported-platform list for the specific SKU. The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro listing and Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3 listing illustrate why edition details matter.

Microphone, comfort, and sound are use-case decisions

A boom microphone is typically more practical for party chat or streaming than relying on a small built-in mic, but features such as flip-to-mute, sidetone, and noise reduction vary. Software claims and microphone specifications do not prove how a mic sounds in a real room. If voice clarity is critical, look for independent listening tests rather than treating a sampling-rate figure as a quality ranking.

For comfort, consider cup depth and opening, clamp force, headband padding, weight, heat, and whether the ear cushions accommodate glasses. A manufacturer’s “glasses-friendly” description is a design claim, not a guarantee that a headset will fit every frame. Where possible, check the seller’s current return terms before purchase.

Sound preferences also depend on the game. Competitive shooters often reward clear positional cues; cinematic single-player games may suit a fuller presentation; music listeners may prefer a less gaming-focused tuning. EQ and virtual surround can change the sound, while driver diameter alone does not establish audio quality. PC Gamer’s 2025 guides offered different editorial picks—including HyperX Cloud Alpha, Razer BlackShark V3, Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3, Audeze Maxwell, and Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro—showing that there is no universal winner across budgets and priorities (PC Gamer’s Cyber Monday headset coverage).

Which 2025 price tier made sense?

  • Under $75: The Cloud III was the clear fit if a cable was acceptable.
  • Around $100–$120: The BlackShark V2 Pro was compelling for wireless buyers, provided the exact platform edition matched.
  • Around $150: Choose the Stealth 700 Gen 3 for over-ear multi-device flexibility, or the GameBuds if you specifically prefer earbuds.
  • Around $240: The Astro A50 Gen 5 made sense for a premium docked setup, not for minimum-cost gaming.

PC Gamer also recommended premium sound-focused models such as the Audeze Maxwell and Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro in broader 2025 coverage, but the cited material does not establish Cyber Monday prices for them. They are alternatives for readers prioritizing sound over deal value, not verified additions to this price list.

Before buying a headset deal

  1. Confirm the exact edition and platform. Do not rely on a product-family name alone.
  2. Check what is in the box. Verify USB transmitter count, cable type, charging dock, and any adapter you need.
  3. Check how each connection works. Distinguish 2.4GHz, Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth, and wired audio; confirm whether game and phone audio can run together.
  4. Check the mic and software needs. Find out whether useful controls require a PC or mobile app and whether the mic works on your intended console.
  5. Evaluate the sale price carefully. A displayed reference price is not proof of the lowest historical price. Compare the final price and relevant alternatives.
  6. Verify current stock, return terms, and warranty. These vary by retailer, listing, geography, and date; no 2025 offer should be assumed active now.

Retailer category pages can mix gaming headsets with ordinary headphones, earbuds, accessories, and marketplace listings. A product labeled “headphones” may lack a boom microphone or the console compatibility you need; category placement alone is not a suitability test.
