Yes—the regular 2024 Kindle Paperwhite was reportedly discounted by $30 for Cyber Monday 2024, falling from $159.99 to $129.99 (often rounded to $130). The offer applied to the 16GB Paperwhite, not automatically to the more expensive Signature Edition.
This was a historical promotion reported on December 2, 2024. The $130 price should not be treated as a live deal in 2026 without checking Amazon’s current listing.

Engadget reported that this was the first discount on the newly launched Paperwhite since its October 2024 release. Because Amazon deal prices can change or disappear, the precise sale price should be understood as a dated report rather than a standing price.
Which Paperwhite was on sale?
The promotion covered the 2024 Kindle Paperwhite, 12th generation—the standard 16GB model. Amazon identifies it as having a seven-inch monochrome, glare-free display, adjustable warm light, IPX8 waterproofing, USB-C charging and battery life of up to 12 weeks.

The sale should not be confused with these other products:
- Paperwhite Signature Edition: 32GB of storage, wireless charging support and an auto-adjusting front light.
- Paperwhite Kids: a child-friendly cover and six months of Amazon Kids+.
- 2021 Paperwhite: an older model with a 6.8-inch display and different specifications.

Why the 2024 Paperwhite was notable

The 25% performance figure and battery estimate are Amazon claims, not universal independent measurements. Actual battery life varies with brightness, wireless use, Bluetooth or Audible activity, reading time and other settings. Engadget also reported a 7.8mm thickness, a grippier rubberized finish and a box containing a USB-C cable but no wall power adapter.

Was $130 a good price?
For Cyber Monday 2024, yes: $129.99 was a meaningful reduction for a Paperwhite that had only recently launched. The $30 saving brought a larger, warmer-lit and waterproof e-reader much closer to entry-level Kindle pricing.

It was not automatically the right Kindle for every buyer. The regular 2024 Kindle was reportedly reduced to $85 from $109.99 during the same promotion. That model cost less and was smaller and lighter, but it lacked the Paperwhite’s warm light, waterproofing and seven-inch display.

Most readers do not need 32GB for ordinary e-books, so the regular Paperwhite was the better value at the historical $130 price. The Signature Edition was easier to justify for buyers with a large local library, substantial audiobook storage, a compatible charging dock or a strong preference for automatic brightness adjustment.
Which Kindle should you choose?
- Choose the regular Paperwhite if you want the best balance of price, screen size, warm light and waterproofing, and 16GB is enough.
- Choose the basic Kindle if you want the cheapest and most compact option and mainly read indoors during the day.
- Choose the Signature Edition if you specifically want 32GB, wireless charging or an auto-adjusting front light—and the price difference is small.
- Choose Paperwhite Kids for a child when the included case and Amazon Kids+ are useful. It is a bundle, not simply the standard adult Paperwhite.
The Paperwhite is monochrome. It is not the right choice if you need color covers, illustrations or comics in color; a color Kindle or tablet is more appropriate for those uses.

If Amazon shows a similar-looking promotion, verify the product page and checkout details rather than relying on a headline price. Check:

- Color and new, refurbished or used condition.
- Whether the configuration is ad-supported or ad-free.
- Whether you are buying the device alone or an Essentials Bundle.
- Whether a case or wall charger is included. The regular Paperwhite’s reported package included a USB-C cable but no power brick.
- The final checkout price, delivery estimate, seller and return policy.
A coupon may need to be selected manually, and Amazon can restrict a promotion to a particular color, configuration or inventory level.
How this price compares with later sales
A later Amazon report listed the Paperwhite at $124.99 during Prime Day 2025. That shows the 2024 Cyber Monday price was not necessarily the lowest future price, but it does not establish what the device costs in September 2026. Any current buying link should be updated with a live price and exact configuration before publication.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The $30 Cyber Monday discount was real for the regular 16GB 2024 Kindle Paperwhite, bringing it to about $130 in December 2024. It was a strong early discount on a newly launched e-reader, especially for readers who wanted warm lighting, a larger screen and waterproofing. The price is historical, not a verified 2026 offer.
