Corsair’s browser-based Firmware Update Utility is still available in 2026, but it is not a full web replacement for iCUE. Corsair launched the utility on April 8, 2025, as a way to update firmware on supported keyboards, mice, headsets, and receivers without installing iCUE. It works primarily through current Chromium-based browsers and requires a direct USB connection.
That makes it useful for a one-off update on a work computer, secondary PC, or temporary system. However, compatibility is model-specific, wireless devices may require both the peripheral and receiver to be connected, and full customization still depends on iCUE or Corsair’s separate Web Hub.
What Corsair’s web firmware utility does
Firmware is the low-level software built into a peripheral. Updates can address bugs or improve performance, but the benefit depends on the particular device and release. Corsair’s Firmware Update Utility handles that update process from a browser instead of requiring the iCUE desktop application.
The utility is free and is intended for firmware maintenance only. Corsair says it is compatible with Windows and macOS, and recommends Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or another current Chromium-based browser. Firefox and Safari should not be treated as supported paths.

Corsair’s original announcement is dated April 8, 2025; it is not a new August or September 2026 launch. The service remains documented and supported, with its device coverage expanded since the original announcement.
Is this a replacement for iCUE?
No. Corsair now has three overlapping management routes, each with a different purpose:

Corsair explains the distinction in its comparison of the Firmware Update Utility and Web Hub. Installing no software is an advantage only when you need a firmware update. It does not mean that lighting control, remapping, profiles, macros, or every other iCUE feature is available in the browser.

- Recommended browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and other current Chromium-based browsers.
- Tested operating systems: Windows and macOS.
- Linux: It may work with root permissions, but Corsair says it has not been thoroughly tested.
- Other operating systems: Not supported according to Corsair’s current guidance.
Use the browser-based utility on a current Chromium browser before troubleshooting the device itself. A supported operating system alone does not make an unsupported browser compatible.

Corsair’s guide, updated January 15, 2026, lists the following devices and receivers:

This is a dated snapshot, not a permanent compatibility guarantee. Corsair says the list changes as products gain support, so check the live Firmware Update Utility guide for your exact model before connecting anything. A product family name is not enough: the precise model and, where applicable, its receiver must appear on the list.
How to update a Corsair device without iCUE
- Check compatibility. Confirm that the exact peripheral or receiver is listed by Corsair.
- Use a supported computer and browser. Choose Windows or macOS with a current Chrome, Edge, Opera, or compatible Chromium-based browser.
- Connect the device directly by USB. Avoid a USB hub, dock, KVM, or extension cable where possible.
- Connect wireless hardware correctly. Corsair may require both the wireless peripheral and its receiver or dongle to be connected directly to the computer.
- Close iCUE completely. Do this before authorizing the browser or beginning the update.
- Open the CORSAIR Firmware Update Utility.
- Authorize device access. When the browser prompts for permission to access Corsair hardware, allow it.
- Select the detected device. Review the current firmware version and the available update shown by the utility.
- Start the update. Follow the on-screen instructions and leave the device connected while the firmware is being written.
- Wait for completion. Do not close the browser, reboot the computer, or reconnect the device until the utility reports that the process has finished.

“Web-based” describes where the update utility runs; it does not mean a wireless peripheral can necessarily receive firmware entirely over its wireless connection. For wireless keyboards, mice, and headsets, Corsair recommends connecting the peripheral and its receiver directly to the computer.

This can matter because the receiver may have separate firmware from the peripheral. Connect both when Corsair’s instructions call for them, and avoid routing either device through a hub or dock during the update.
Web Hub versus Firmware Update Utility
The names are similar, but these are separate Corsair services.
Firmware Update Utility
- Designed primarily for firmware updates.
- Works with a broader range of supported Corsair peripherals and receivers.
- Does not provide the full customization features of iCUE.
- Requires browser permission to access the hardware.
- Lets users perform supported firmware updates without installing iCUE.
Web Hub
The Web Hub offers broader configuration for a smaller group of products. Corsair’s current support page lists devices including MAKR 75, Scimitar SE, Vanguard 96, Vanguard Pro 96, Vanguard Air 99 Wireless, Galleon 100 SD, Sabre V2 Pro Wireless MG and CF, Clipper Pro Mini 60, and Nightsword V2 Wireless SD.

See Corsair’s Web Hub compatibility page before assuming that a product supported by the Firmware Update Utility also works in Web Hub. The lists are different. Corsair’s web ecosystem is consequently fragmented: some devices use iCUE, some support Web Hub, and some use more than one route for different tasks.

Troubleshooting detection problems
If the utility cannot see the device, work through these checks:
- Confirm the exact model is on Corsair’s current supported-device list.
- Switch to a current Chromium-based browser such as Chrome or Edge.
- Connect the device directly to the computer by USB.
- Remove hubs, docks, KVMs, and extension cables from the connection path.
- Close iCUE completely, including any background process that may still be using the device.
- Disconnect and reconnect the device, then repeat the browser authorization prompt.
- For wireless hardware, connect both the peripheral and its receiver.
- If it still does not appear, try another USB port or cable as a standard hardware check.
If the device is unsupported, changing browsers or cables will not make it compatible with the utility. In that case, use the update method Corsair lists for that model, usually iCUE or Customer Support.

That normally means no newer firmware is available through the standard update path. If you are trying to resolve a specific firmware problem rather than install a routine update, iCUE may provide additional recovery controls for some devices, including Force Update or Browse for Firmware when Corsair supplies a firmware file through Customer Support.
Those controls belong to iCUE and should not be assumed to exist in the browser utility. Do not download firmware from an unofficial source simply to force an update.

What to do if an update fails
During a firmware flash:
- Do not unplug the peripheral or receiver.
- Do not close the browser.
- Do not force-restart or shut down the computer.
- Do not repeatedly interrupt the process because the progress display appears slow.
Wait for the utility to report failure or completion before reconnecting anything. If the device is no longer detected afterward or becomes unresponsive, contact Corsair Support rather than repeatedly attempting interrupted flashes. Support may direct you to iCUE’s force-update workflow or provide a firmware file for the affected model.
Who should use it?
The utility is a good fit when you need to update a supported device once and do not want to install a permanent desktop application. It is especially practical on a secondary computer, a shared system, a managed work machine where software installation is restricted, or a travel computer.
It is less useful if you need ongoing lighting control, remapping, profiles, macros, or advanced device management. In those cases, check whether your model is supported by Web Hub; otherwise, keep iCUE available. Do not uninstall iCUE solely because a device appears on the Firmware Update Utility list.
Bottom line
Corsair’s browser-based Firmware Update Utility is a useful, established alternative to iCUE for firmware-only updates on supported peripherals. Its practical advantages are real: no iCUE installation, a relatively small workflow, and broad compatibility compared with Web Hub. But it requires a compatible model, a Chromium-based browser, direct USB connections, and—in many wireless cases—both the device and receiver.
The right way to view it is as a maintenance tool, not a browser version of iCUE. Check Corsair’s live compatibility list first, use the direct-USB procedure, and keep iCUE or Web Hub available for functions the firmware utility does not provide.
