CNH Industrial and Intelsat announced a satellite-connectivity collaboration on April 29, 2024, aimed initially at remote agricultural operations in Brazil. The planned service was for customers using Case IH, STEYR and New Holland Agriculture equipment—not a general consumer internet launch or a confirmed worldwide rollout. CNH later announced a separate Starlink agreement in 2025, so farmers should check with a local dealer about what is currently offered in their region.
What CNH and Intelsat announced
The companies said they had signed a memorandum of understanding under which Intelsat would provide multi-orbit satellite connectivity and ruggedized terminals for CNH agricultural equipment in areas with poor or no cellular coverage. The announcement named Case IH, STEYR and New Holland Agriculture customers as the intended users. It did not extend the offer automatically to every CNH brand, machine or model.
The first market was planned to be Brazil in the second half of 2024, with the United States, Australia and other regions identified as possible later markets without a published timetable. Cellular networks are concentrated around populated areas and roads; large or remote fields can fall outside dependable coverage. CNH cited Food and Agriculture Organization data saying less than 33% of the world’s surface has mobile-network coverage. That is a surface-area figure, not a claim that less than 33% of farmland is covered. For Brazil, CNH cited ConectarAGRO’s finding that high-speed internet reached 19% of the area available for agricultural use. Satellite access can provide a connection where there is no nearby tower, potentially allowing machines to send operational data and receive information from cloud services while working in remote locations. It does not, by itself, establish that a service is a substitute for a farm’s office or household broadband.
What multi-orbit means
CNH described Intelsat’s system as spanning geosynchronous and low-Earth-orbit satellites. Geosynchronous satellites orbit at a distance that lets them appear fixed over a broad region; low-Earth-orbit satellites travel much closer to Earth and can generally support lower-latency connections. A multi-orbit network may offer flexibility across coverage conditions, but the announcement did not publish measured speed, latency, uptime, satellite-switching behavior or service guarantees. Intelsat’s performance claims should therefore be understood as vendor claims, not independently established results.

Farm-ready hardware—and what remains unspecified
The companies described the terminals as industrial-grade and ruggedized for extreme weather, vibration and shock associated with machinery and agricultural work. The release also said Intelsat terminals are used in demanding settings such as military and airline applications; that does not mean the farm terminal has a military certification.

Buyers also need confirmation of how trees, buildings, terrain, machine orientation and severe weather may affect a signal. “Ruggedized” is a useful description, not a substitute for a technical specification or service commitment.

What connectivity could enable
CNH positioned the collaboration as support for precision agriculture: machines exchanging data with cloud platforms, coordinated equipment operations, remote monitoring and delivery of instructions to machinery. These capabilities can help operators see machine activity and health remotely and keep information flowing between equipment and farm-management systems.
New Holland’s FieldOps platform illustrates some related connected functions, including machine location and duty status, remote viewing of in-cab displays, agronomic data layers, and machine-health and activity monitoring. How to check availability and fit
CNH said Case IH and New Holland dealers would install and support the hardware and activate Intelsat service. The cited announcement does not provide a public ordering page, service plans, prices, installation fees, model compatibility list or confirmed dealer availability. Before committing, ask a dealer:

- Is the service currently available in my country and in the fields where I operate?
- Which machine models, model years, displays and telematics systems are supported?
- Is the terminal installed on the machine, at the farm, or portable? What are its power and mounting requirements?
- Does the connection support machine telemetry only, or can it also provide general internet access?
- What are the hardware, installation, activation and recurring service costs, and what contract terms apply?
- How do obstructions, storms or temporary outages affect service? Is data stored and synchronized later if a connection drops?
- Can it work with a mixed fleet or third-party equipment, and what technical support and replacement arrangements are available?
- What are the data-ownership, retention, security and cross-border transfer policies?
Satellite can be most useful where cellular service is unreliable, a machine’s connected functions have real operational value, and its antenna has a sufficiently open view of the sky. It may be less compelling where cellular service already works well or where local installation and repair support is unavailable. Compare the complete cost and support arrangement, not just the promise of coverage.

CNH’s later Starlink announcement
On May 15, 2025, CNH announced a separate agreement with SpaceX’s Starlink for satellite connectivity for Case IH, New Holland and STEYR customers. The public announcement described that service in broad terms but did not provide customer pricing or a complete purchase and compatibility guide. It does not establish whether Starlink and Intelsat are complementary, region-specific alternatives, or successive arrangements. Nor does it show that Intelsat was cancelled or replaced. The Bottom Line
The Intelsat collaboration was a planned, dealer-mediated satellite option for connected CNH farm equipment, initially targeting Brazil—not a promise of universal farm broadband. Its practical value depends on current local availability, machine compatibility, installation and service costs, and support. CNH’s later Starlink agreement makes a dealer check essential before assuming which satellite option is available.
