OpenAI’s official ChatGPT year recap is called Your Year with ChatGPT. It reflects eligible users’ activity during 2025, but access depends on your country, account type, settings and activity—not just your subscription. Open ChatGPT on the web or in its iOS or Android app and look for the recap on the home screen; if you qualify but do not see it, ask ChatGPT for “Your Year with ChatGPT.”
What is Your Year with ChatGPT?
OpenAI introduced Your Year with ChatGPT on December 22, 2025 as an optional end-of-year experience about how you used ChatGPT in 2025. It draws on eligible conversation history to show broad themes and usage statistics. It is not a permanent public profile or a universal “ChatGPT Wrapped” dashboard, and it does not open automatically.
The experience is generated for an individual account. Another person’s shared recap cannot reveal your own activity or produce yours. OpenAI describes availability as limited-time, so the entry point may not remain available indefinitely; once you open the recap, you can revisit it as a conversation in your chat history.
Who can access the recap?
OpenAI’s current FAQ lists these consumer-plan and market requirements. Availability can change, and rollout to accounts may be gradual.

You also need Reference saved memories and Reference chat history enabled, and your account must meet a minimum activity threshold. Team, Enterprise and Education accounts are excluded. OpenAI lists web, iOS and Android as supported surfaces; the initial launch markets and experience were in English.
Having an eligible plan alone does not guarantee access. Nor should you subscribe solely to get the recap: country, account type, settings, activity and rollout all matter.
How to open Your Year with ChatGPT
- Sign in to the ChatGPT account whose 2025 activity you want to see.
- Open ChatGPT on the web, or launch the iOS or Android app.
- Look for the Your Year with ChatGPT entry on the home screen and select it.
- If you believe you are eligible but do not see it, start a new chat and ask ChatGPT for “Your Year with ChatGPT.” OpenAI says eligible users can prompt it directly, although no particular wording is guaranteed to work for every account.
If you need to enable the required references, open Settings and look under Personalization or Data Controls for the two options. Labels and menu locations can vary by app version. Turning them on may not make the recap appear immediately; OpenAI says processing can take time.
What does it show?
OpenAI confirms high-level conversation themes and summary usage statistics, with the experience varying by user. Accounts with very little activity may see only basic statistics. The FAQ does not promise a fixed set of cards or metrics for everyone.
Depending on the account and version of the experience, reports describe elements such as message or chat totals, active days, images generated, playful awards or an archetype, a poem, or an image based on interests. Treat these as possible examples, not guaranteed features. Any archetype or award is a playful product-generated interpretation, not a psychological assessment.
Why can’t I see it?
- Your account or location is not eligible. Check the plan and country rules above. The listed markets should not be taken as a permanent or exhaustive global list.
- You are using a workspace account. Team, Enterprise and Education accounts are not eligible under the current FAQ.
- One or both reference settings are off. Check that Reference saved memories and Reference chat history are enabled.
- Your account does not meet the activity threshold. Some low-activity accounts may get only basic statistics; accounts below the threshold may not receive the full experience.
- The rollout has not reached your account, or settings were just changed. Try again later; recently enabling the required settings may not produce an immediate result.
- You are checking only one surface. Try the web version as well as the iOS or Android app, then try asking ChatGPT directly for the experience.
If the recap remains unavailable, do not assume that upgrading will unlock it. Eligibility is not based on plan alone.

The recap relies on conversation context that ChatGPT can reference, which is why both saved-memory and chat-history reference settings are required. Temporary Chats are not used for the experience. Enabling reference now does not guarantee a complete reconstruction of the year: the result depends on which conversations remain available, whether reference was previously disabled, and what the system can infer from retained history. Do not assume deleted chats can be recovered for the recap.

After opening, it is stored as a ChatGPT conversation and follows the same data controls as other conversations in your chat history.
If you delete that conversation, OpenAI says it will delete it within 30 days, subject to the general data-handling framework for ChatGPT conversations—not immediately. Separately, if Improve the model for everyone is enabled, content you share with ChatGPT, including chats and saved memories, may be used to improve OpenAI’s models. You can manage that preference in Data Controls. This model-improvement setting is distinct from whether the recap can be generated.
Memory and cross-chat reference are a personalization trade-off. If you disabled them for privacy, you may prefer to leave them off rather than enable them just to get a year-end summary. You can review, edit or delete saved memories in ChatGPT’s settings.
Can you make your own ChatGPT Wrapped?
Yes. If ChatGPT can access relevant conversations, you can ask it for a qualitative year summary. That is a custom prompt—not the official Your Year with ChatGPT experience—and it may not provide reliable usage counts or OpenAI’s visual cards. For a more careful result, try:
Based only on conversation history you can actually access, summarize the main themes and patterns in my ChatGPT use during 2025. Separate direct observations from interpretations. Do not invent exact counts, dates, or facts you cannot verify; label uncertainty clearly. Avoid psychological or diagnostic conclusions and do not repeat sensitive personal details unless necessary. If you cannot access enough history to do this reliably, say so.
This approach is a no-purchase alternative, but it cannot restore Temporary Chats, deleted conversations or history the account cannot access. For a more detailed analysis using an exported chat archive, remember that the file may contain sensitive personal or work information; consider the privacy and handling practices of any tool before uploading it.
