Chrome does not have a single dedicated key for a scrolling screenshot. Its built-in shortcut sequence is DevTools, then the Command Menu: press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux (or Command+Option+I on macOS), press Ctrl+Shift+P (or Command+Shift+P), type screenshot, and choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves an image of the entire document, including content below the fold.
The Chrome shortcut sequence for a full-page screenshot
Use this workflow when you want one image of the complete scrolling page rather than only the part currently visible:
- Open the page in Chrome and wait for its content to finish loading.
- Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux. On macOS, press Command+Option+I.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Type screenshot in the command field.
- Select Capture full size screenshot.
Chrome captures the whole page, including content that is not currently visible in the viewport, and downloads the result as an image. The command is available from the same screenshot menu documented by Chrome DevTools.

Why this is not a one-key shortcut
Chrome’s official shortcut list does not include a dedicated one-key command for a full-page capture. The practical keyboard shortcut is therefore a sequence: open DevTools, open the Command Menu, then run the named screenshot command. You can perform every step from the keyboard without installing an extension.

Pick the capture command that matches your goal
| Command | What it captures | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Capture screenshot | The current viewport only | A visible state of the page, such as a dialog or hero section |
| Capture full size screenshot | The complete scrolling document, including below-the-fold content | Documentation, long articles, landing pages and visual archives |
| Capture area screenshot | A rectangle you drag over the page | A specific region that is not a single DOM element |
| Capture node screenshot | The inspected DOM element | A component, table, card, panel or other individual element |
For an area capture, type screenshot in the Command Menu and choose Capture area screenshot, then drag the region. Chrome notes that area capture does not work while DevTools is undocked, so dock DevTools to the browser window first. Node capture requires you to inspect the element before running the command.
Preparing a page so the full-size image is useful
Wait for content and lazy images
Many pages insert images, charts or text as you scroll. Let the initial load settle before capturing. If a lower section is still empty, scroll through the page once to trigger lazy loading, return to the top and run Capture full size screenshot again. Chrome’s documentation does not state a universal maximum page length or a success-rate figure, so very long or unusually dynamic pages should be checked after download.
Control moving or transient elements
Animated banners, sticky headers, video frames and rotating carousels can produce an inconsistent image. Pause media where possible, close overlays and wait for a stable frame. A cookie dialog or chat widget may be included if it remains on the page; Chrome’s built-in command does not promise to remove those elements.
Check the downloaded file
Open the image immediately after capture. Check the bottom of the document, image loading, sticky elements and text rendering. If a section is missing, identify whether it was lazy-loaded, hidden behind an interaction or blocked by the page itself before trying again.
Built-in DevTools versus an extension
The DevTools method requires no installation and uses Chrome’s own capture commands. It is a good default for occasional work, sensitive pages and teams that do not want to grant an extension additional permissions.

An extension can provide a shorter, rebindable shortcut. For example, the Chrome Web Store listing for FullPageShot says it captures the entire scrolling height as one PNG and assigns Ctrl+Shift+Y on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+Y on macOS by default. The shortcut can be changed at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Treat this as an optional route: review the extension’s requested permissions, publisher history and update activity, and confirm that its output and maintenance meet your needs.
| Decision factor | DevTools | Extension |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Already built into Chrome; open DevTools and the Command Menu | Install, review permissions and configure a shortcut |
| Scope | Viewport, area, node or full document commands | Depends on the extension’s implementation |
| Output | Chrome screenshot image | FullPageShot listing specifies one PNG; other formats depend on the extension |
| Long or dynamic pages | May require checking lazy content and animations | Reliability varies by extension and page |
Official Chrome material documents the commands and the undocked-area limitation, but it does not publish a universal maximum page length, performance number or success-rate statistic. Avoid treating any extension’s advertised behavior as a guarantee for every site.

Common problems and fixes
The Command Menu does not open
- Use the shortcut for your operating system: Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Click the page or DevTools first if another application currently has keyboard focus.
- Open DevTools again with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I or Command+Option+I, then retry.
“Capture full size screenshot” is not listed
- Confirm that you typed screenshot, not a similar word, in the Command Menu.
- Keep DevTools open while searching; the capture commands are DevTools commands.
- Try the command after the page has finished loading and DevTools has populated its controls.
The image contains only the visible viewport
You probably selected Capture screenshot. Reopen the Command Menu and select Capture full size screenshot; the ordinary capture command is intentionally limited to the current viewport.

A selected area capture fails
Chrome documents that area capture does not work while DevTools is undocked. Use the DevTools docking control to attach it to the browser window, then run Capture area screenshot again.
Lower sections are blank or images are missing
Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy loading, wait for network activity to settle, then capture again. Some content requires a click, login, consent choice or other interaction before it exists in the document; the screenshot command cannot bypass those requirements.
The result looks inconsistent between attempts
Freeze animations, pause video, close popups and capture after sticky navigation has reached a stable state. Dynamic pages can change while Chrome is assembling a long image, so compare the downloaded file with the live page.

Chrome does not publish a universal maximum length or completion guarantee. For an unusually long document, verify the image dimensions and bottom section. If repeatable, automated captures are important, use an API workflow that can report whether a page loaded cleanly rather than relying on a manual browser session.

Automate full-page captures without operating Chrome
For scheduled jobs, regression archives or many URLs, a screenshot API avoids maintaining a local browser window. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; its full-page mode loads lazy images. It also supports element capture, device and viewport settings, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting and an OpenAPI specification. Parameters commonly used by other screenshot APIs are accepted, which can simplify a migration.

ScreenshotNeo accepts the site’s cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before the capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chrome save a full-page capture as a PDF?
The DevTools screenshot commands capture an image. Use a print-to-PDF workflow when a PDF rather than PNG-style image output is required.
Can I change the full-page shortcut to one key?
Chrome does not provide a dedicated one-key full-page command in its official shortcut list. An extension may offer a rebindable shortcut, but review its permissions and maintenance first.
Will full-page capture include content behind a login?
It captures what the current Chrome session can access. Sign in and complete required interactions before running the command; it does not bypass authentication.
