If you can’t add friends on Uplay, use the player’s exact Ubisoft Connect username first—not their Steam name, PlayStation ID, or Xbox gamertag. Uplay is the former name for Ubisoft Connect, and whether you can invite that friend to play also depends on the game and platforms involved.
Uplay is now Ubisoft Connect
Ubisoft replaced Uplay with Ubisoft Connect. The current service is available through the Ubisoft Connect desktop app and within supported games on PC and consoles. Older games and guides may still say “Uplay,” but you should use the current Ubisoft Connect app and instructions.
Start with the identity you are searching for: Ubisoft’s cross-play guidance says to find players by their Ubisoft Connect username. Adding someone as a Ubisoft friend does not, by itself, guarantee that you can play together; cross-play availability varies by game and platform.

- Open Ubisoft Connect on PC, or launch the Ubisoft game where its social features are supported.
- Open the Friends, Social, or Group area. The label and location can differ by game, platform, and client version.
- Search for the other player’s exact Ubisoft Connect username.
- Select the correct profile and choose Add Friend or Send Friend Request.
- Ask the recipient to open their friends area and check pending requests.
- Once the request is accepted, use the game’s group or squad menu to invite them. That separate invitation works only if the game and platform combination supports playing together.
If you recently played together, the game may also let you open the player’s profile or player card and choose Send Friend Request. Ubisoft documents both this route and searching by Ubisoft username in its For Honor cross-play FAQ; exact controls are not universal across Ubisoft games.

Check the username and Ubisoft account
A player can have several names: a Ubisoft Connect username, a Steam profile name, a PlayStation Network online ID, an Xbox gamertag, a Nintendo account name, and an in-game name. When searching in Ubisoft’s cross-platform friend system, use the Ubisoft Connect username.
- Ask your friend to check the username shown on their Ubisoft Connect profile and send it to you exactly.
- Check spelling, numbers, underscores, and punctuation. Avoid guessing from their console or PC launcher name.
- Make sure each person is signed in to the intended Ubisoft account. Starting a game through Steam or Epic does not mean the same Ubisoft account is being used every time.
- If either person has more than one Ubisoft account, compare the usernames shown inside Ubisoft Connect—not just the platform used to launch the game.
Ubisoft says the username can be found on the profile tab or in the relevant profile or group interface. Do not use an email address for the search unless the current interface explicitly offers that option.
If the friend request does not appear
- Wait briefly and check pending requests manually. Ubisoft says cross-platform friend-request notifications may take up to two minutes to appear. Refresh the friends area or close and reopen the social menu; do not rely only on a pop-up.
- Check from another Ubisoft Connect surface. If the in-game overlay does not show the request, check the desktop client or Ubisoft Connect on console where available.
- Confirm the recipient account. The request may have gone to another Ubisoft account linked to a different platform or used to launch the game.
- Check both block lists. Ubisoft’s cross-platform documentation says blocking can prevent invitation requests. If appropriate, unblock the player on both accounts and send a fresh request.
- Test whether the problem is isolated. If possible, see whether requests to another person work. Note whether the failure occurs only in one game, on one device, or everywhere.
If the request still fails after these checks, avoid repeatedly resending it. That can make it harder to tell whether there is a pending, blocked, or delayed request.

Friend added, but you still cannot play together?
Friendship and multiplayer compatibility are different checks. Ubisoft Connect can provide a cross-platform social layer, but Ubisoft says cross-play varies by game and platform. A person might appear in your friends list while invitations to a particular game, platform pair, or mode remain unavailable.
Check the current cross-play information for the specific title, then confirm:
- Cross-play is supported between the exact platforms you both use.
- The game mode allows cross-platform grouping.
- Both players have the required game version and any in-game cross-play setting enabled.
- You are sending the invitation from the game’s group or squad interface, not assuming the Ubisoft friends list itself starts a session.
For example, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege cross-play documentation describes that game’s own social and matchmaking behavior. It should not be treated as a universal rule for other Ubisoft titles.

Check age and parental controls
If the Add Friend option is missing or requests are disabled, either account may have restrictions. Ubisoft’s young-player account information explains that friendship settings may disable requests or require parental approval. Age rules and account settings can vary by country and account configuration.
Ask the parent or guardian to review the account’s Family Center settings and check whether friend requests require approval. Do not change a birth date or create another account to get around an age restriction.
Restart and update Ubisoft Connect
If the username is right, the game supports the feature, and no account control explains the problem, check for a client or overlay issue:

- Close the game.
- Fully exit Ubisoft Connect, rather than just closing its window, then open it again.
- Sign out and back in to the Ubisoft account you intend to use.
- Install any available Ubisoft Connect and game updates, then relaunch the game.
- Try the friends list in the desktop client and, if available, the in-game social overlay. If one works and the other does not, the failure may be specific to that game or interface.
- Restart the PC or console if the social panel is blank, frozen, or will not load.
Reinstalling should not be the first step: it cannot fix a wrong username, a young-player restriction, unsupported cross-play, or an outage. If only one game is affected, check that game’s official support and maintenance information before reinstalling.

Network interference is more plausible if the friends panel fails to load or several Ubisoft online features are affected—not just one person’s friend request. Try these low-risk comparisons:

- Restart the device and router, and test a wired connection if practical.
- If you use a VPN or proxy, turn it off temporarily to see whether the result changes. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not a recommended bypass; network workarounds can affect authentication or conflict with Ubisoft’s terms.
- Try a phone hotspot briefly. If Ubisoft Connect works there but not on your usual network, the difference points toward the network or its security settings; it does not prove which setting is responsible.
- Check whether security software or a managed school, work, or public network may be blocking the client.
Do not edit the Windows hosts file, install unofficial “Ubisoft repair” or gaming-booster tools, or change router ports based on generic forum instructions. The correct network requirements can be game- and platform-specific, and those steps can create new problems.

Check for a Ubisoft service problem
If several friends are affected or the same social features fail on multiple devices, Ubisoft’s service may be unavailable or under maintenance. Check official Ubisoft support channels and the game’s current service or maintenance notices, then retry later if the disruption appears widespread. Reinstalling your client will not repair a server-side outage. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use allow maintenance and service changes and do not promise uninterrupted availability.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
Contact Ubisoft Support if requests fail across devices after you have verified the username and account, or if you see an account-related error or cannot use social features at all. A restriction is only one possibility; do not assume you have been suspended unless Ubisoft or an account notice confirms it.
Include the game, platform, Ubisoft Connect username, relevant linked platform accounts, the time of the failure, the exact error text, and what you tested (for example, desktop client versus in-game overlay, or another network). Use official Ubisoft sites to sign in or seek help. Never give a password or authentication code to a social-media or Discord account claiming to provide support.
