The Canoo electric pickup was a real announced vehicle, but it did not become a verified, normally available 2024 consumer truck. Canoo published an ambitious design and preliminary targets for range, payload and performance; it did not establish a final retail price or production specification in the records reviewed. The company filed for Chapter 7 liquidation on January 17, 2025, ending the original program’s ordinary path to market.
Was there a 2024 Canoo electric truck?
Canoo revealed its Pickup Truck in March 2021. “2024 Canoo electric truck” is best understood as a search phrase, not evidence of a formally launched 2024 model year. The company described the pickup as an announced vehicle program, and its 2023 annual report still listed it among its vehicle programs; that is not the same as documenting a retail launch or customer deliveries.
Canoo did pursue manufacturing and commercial deliveries for other electric vehicles, including its delivery van. Those efforts do not prove the pickup entered series production. The reviewed filings do not verify a 2024 consumer-pickup launch, final EPA range, or completed retail deliveries. NHTSA’s manufacturer listing includes pickup among Canoo’s vehicle categories, but a category listing is not proof that a finished retail model was sold.

What Canoo said the pickup would be
The proposed truck used Canoo’s modular electric-vehicle platform and a cabin-forward layout intended to make a relatively compact vehicle useful for work and recreation. The announced configuration had an extended cab, two front seats and a rear compartment that could be adapted for more seating or other uses.
Canoo also described a bed that could extend from roughly six feet to eight feet, integrated worktables at the front and in the bed, storage areas, tow hooks and metal skid plates. The company promoted bidirectional onboard charging and outlets for powering tools and equipment. Steer-by-wire was another part of the announced design.
These were design claims for a proposed vehicle, not a verified equipment list for a certified production pickup. Public renderings, demonstrations or prototype appearances can establish that a design was developed; they do not establish a final model, retail production or long-term service support.

The differences are important. Canoo’s filing described a 200-plus-mile target and up to 550 lb-ft of torque; its later reservation announcement cited up to 250 miles, 200 hp and 236 lb-ft of peak motor torque. These may reflect different configurations, evolving engineering estimates or different ways of reporting torque. The documents do not resolve the differences into a single final production specification. Treat all these figures as historical company targets, not promises about a 2024 truck.
The reviewed sources also do not establish final battery capacity, towing capacity, curb weight, gross vehicle weight rating, charging time, trim lineup, or final payload. Canoo’s 2023 annual report discusses certification requirements, including EPA certification, but the sources here do not verify a final EPA-certified 2024 Pickup.
Price and reservations
In May 2021, Canoo said U.S. customers could reserve the pickup with a $100 deposit. That was a reservation mechanism, not a final purchase contract, a confirmed delivery slot or proof that retail sales began. The reviewed primary sources do not provide a dependable final MSRP for the pickup.

Do not treat old reservation language or a recycled listing as evidence that a new Canoo pickup can be ordered today. A reservation deposit, an estimated price and a final vehicle price are different things. No verified active Canoo pickup ordering channel, warranty plan or retail service network is established by the cited materials.
From announcement to liquidation
- March 2021: Canoo revealed its electric pickup design.
- May 2021: It announced U.S. reservations and preliminary performance targets, including a $100 deposit.
- 2023: Canoo’s annual report continued to describe the Pickup as an announced vehicle program, while its commercial manufacturing efforts involved other vehicles.
- 2024: Canoo continued work to scale manufacturing and commercial deliveries. The reviewed records do not establish that the Pickup entered retail production or reached consumers that year.
- January 17, 2025: Canoo and subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation. The filing said a trustee would take control of assets for liquidation.
Canoo’s 2023 annual report provides context on its vehicle programs and manufacturing, while its Chapter 7 filing documents the liquidation. Chapter 7 is liquidation, not a routine delay or ordinary restructuring. A future truck based on Canoo’s design would require a separate revival, such as an asset acquisition and new company; that possibility is speculative, not an active purchase path.

The announced concept had practical ideas: a compact footprint, an extendable bed, work surfaces and onboard power for equipment. But a work-truck decision depends on verified payload and towing ratings, usable range under load, charging performance, certification, warranty coverage, parts and service access. Those production facts were not established for a retail Canoo pickup in the cited records.

For an adventure-truck buyer, the same uncertainty applies to real-world range, weather performance, crash testing, software support and resale value. A claimed range target or a prototype cannot answer those ownership questions. Canoo’s liquidation makes the absence of a conventional support and sales path especially consequential.
Practical answer: do not plan on buying a new “2024 Canoo truck” as an ordinary retail vehicle. The public evidence supports an announced pickup program with preliminary targets—not a delivered 2024 production model, final price or established ownership ecosystem.
