Yes, you may be able to earn money in the Roblox ecosystem before you turn 18—but that is not the same as being hired by Roblox Corporation. Roblox’s creator cash-out program, some creator programs, and independent work for other creators have their own eligibility rules. For a direct Roblox job or internship, check the requirements of that specific opening: the available information does not establish one minimum age for every role.
Four different meanings of “work for Roblox”
The phrase can mean several things, and the rules differ:
- Roblox Corporation employee: Roblox hires you for a role, such as engineering, design, product, or marketing, and sets your employment terms.
- Roblox intern or apprentice: You work for the company through a specific early-career program. Eligibility may depend on age, education, location, and work authorization.
- Independent creator: You make experiences or other content, earn qualifying Robux, and may apply to exchange it for money through Developer Exchange (DevEx). You are not thereby a Roblox employee.
- Freelancer for another creator: A creator or group hires you for work such as scripting, art, building, animation, or interface design. That arrangement is between you and the hiring party, not a Roblox Corporation job.
Roblox’s Terms of Use say that Roblox does not perform or employ people for jobs posted on Talent Hub; using it does not create an employment or agency relationship with Roblox.
Can Roblox Corporation hire someone under 18?
There is no verified blanket rule in the cited public information saying that every Roblox Corporation job requires applicants to be 18. That does not mean every role is open to minors. Each opening can set its own education, experience, location, work-authorization, and age requirements, and employment laws vary by jurisdiction.

Start with the official Roblox careers site and read the complete listing. Roblox’s early-career page describes internships for students from underclassmen through master’s-level study, as well as PhD-focused internships; it does not establish that every internship is open to high-school students.
Some programs do state an explicit age minimum. For example, the 2026 Community Apprenticeship software-engineering announcement required applicants to be at least 18. Treat that as a requirement for that program—not proof of a universal age rule for all Roblox jobs. If a current listing is unclear, ask Roblox recruiting rather than relying on a third-party job-board summary or an old forum post. Parental permission cannot override a stated employer minimum or applicable labor law.

Can you make money from Roblox before 18?
Potentially, from age 13, through DevEx. Roblox’s Developer Exchange documentation lists several requirements, including:

- being at least 13;
- having at least 30,000 Earned Robux;
- a verified email address and a valid DevEx portal account;
- the required tax documentation—Form W-9 for U.S. taxpayers or W-8 for non-U.S. taxpayers; and
- compliance with Roblox’s Terms of Use, Community Standards, and the other DevEx requirements.
At the standard published rate of $0.0038 per eligible Earned Robux, 30,000 qualifying Robux works out to $114 before any tax obligations. This is a rate calculation, not a promise of earnings or payout approval. Purchased Robux and other Robux that do not qualify as Earned Robux cannot simply be treated as cash-out balance. Roblox also documents a higher U.S. 18+ DevEx rate of $0.0054 for eligible purchases by age-checked U.S. players aged 18 or older in qualifying games. That condition concerns the spending player and eligible game activity; it is not a general statement that a creator must be 18 to use DevEx.
If you are a minor, age eligibility alone does not settle who can sign agreements, submit tax information, or receive payments for you. Rules depend on your location and circumstances, so involve a parent or guardian before you rely on creator income or enter a paid arrangement. Never falsify your age, identity, tax details, or location.

What about creator programs?
Some Roblox creator programs accept participants under 18 under program-specific conditions. For example, the Creator Affiliate Pilot Program sets a minimum age of 13 and requires parental or guardian consent for participants under 18. It also has other eligibility requirements, including availability in countries that support DevEx.

Can you freelance for another Roblox creator?
Possibly, but Talent Hub work is not a Roblox job. A minor considering freelance work should involve a parent or guardian before agreeing to payment or sharing personal information. Make sure the arrangement explains the scope, payment amount and timing, ownership or licensing of the work, revisions, and what happens if either side cancels. Contract enforceability and rules for employing minors depend on local law.
There is also a platform-safety wrinkle: Roblox’s age-based collaboration rules can limit who can work together in Team Create. The published guidance divides collaboration by age group, and Roblox’s June 25, 2026 update says some cross-age collaboration also requires trusted-friend status or parental permission through linked parental controls. Check the current rules rather than assuming that an agreement between creators makes a collaboration technically available.
Do not move quickly to private messaging at a stranger’s request, send identity documents through unofficial channels, or pay someone to unlock a job. Roblox’s Safety Center offers guidance for staying safer on the platform.
Age-by-age guide

Roblox’s age systems can affect more than chat. Its Kids and Select publishing documentation describes age-checked account tiers—Kids (ages 5–8), Select (9–15), and the standard tier (16+)—and publishing requirements that can vary by audience and region. These platform rules are separate from hiring rules and can change as features roll out.
A practical next step if you’re under 18
- Choose the path. Decide whether you mean a Roblox Corporation job, creator income, a creator program, or freelance work for another developer.
- For a company job, check the official listing. Confirm its age wording, education, location, and work-authorization requirements on Roblox Careers. Ask recruiting if a material requirement is unclear.
- For creator income, build first and verify DevEx rules. Learn a useful skill—such as Luau scripting, modeling, UI, animation, or game design—and create a portfolio. Before treating Robux as income, check the current DevEx requirements and keep records of revenue and expenses.
- Bring in an adult before money or contracts are involved. Have a parent or guardian review payment arrangements, ownership terms, tax obligations, and the identity of the person hiring you.
- Protect your account and identity. Do not misstate your age, pay for access to a supposed job, or send sensitive documents through unofficial channels.
Roblox’s account-age and publishing rules are not a substitute for employment law, tax advice, or the terms of a specific job. Requirements can differ by country, state, and program, so verify the current rules that apply to you.
