Yes. You can connect a PS5 DualSense or DualSense Edge controller to a Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 PC by USB-C or Bluetooth. Whether it works in a particular game—and whether advanced features such as haptics and adaptive triggers work—depends on the game and how it handles controller input. For the simplest setup and best chance of getting PC-supported haptics, use a USB-C data cable.
Sony’s DualSense connection guide covers Windows USB and Bluetooth support. Steam and individual game developers determine which games recognize the controller.
What you need
- A DualSense wireless controller or DualSense Edge.
- A Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 PC.
- For wired play, a USB-C cable that supports data, not just charging.
- For wireless play, Bluetooth built into the PC or a compatible Bluetooth adapter.
- Optional: Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app for controller firmware updates.
Sony lists both DualSense models among the PlayStation controllers supported for PC gaming, but support and features can differ by game. See Sony’s PC gaming support information.
Connect the controller with USB-C
- Turn on your PC.
- Connect the DualSense to the computer with a USB-C data cable.
- Wait for Windows to detect it, then open your game or launcher.
- If the game offers an input or controller option, select gamepad/controller and test the buttons, sticks, triggers and touchpad.
Windows should detect a working wired connection, and a compatible game should accept controller input. Microsoft’s Windows controller guide also describes USB as a connection option for modern controllers. If the controller lights up or charges but is not detected, first try a different cable: some USB-C cables carry power but not data.

Connect over Bluetooth
- Unplug the USB cable and turn the controller off. If its indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it switches off.
- Hold the Create button and the PS button together until the light bar starts blinking.
- In Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth, then choose the controller, usually shown as Wireless Controller.
- Open a controller-compatible game and test the controls.
This is Sony’s pairing sequence: hold Create and PS until the light bar blinks, then choose the controller from the PC’s Bluetooth device list. The PC needs working Bluetooth; a desktop without it can use a compatible adapter. Wireless play is convenient, but Sony says PC haptics require USB when a game supports them.
Will it work with your game?
Keep three separate questions in mind: can Windows see the controller, can the launcher pass it through, and does the game support controller input? A successful Bluetooth pairing or USB connection does not guarantee that every PC game will use it.

Steam games
Steam officially supports Sony DualSense controllers in Big Picture Mode. That does not mean every Steam game supports gamepads: check the game’s store-page controller-support label, which may say full or partial support. Partial support can mean that a keyboard or mouse is still needed for menus, setup or launchers. See Steam’s controller support information.
Connect the DualSense before launching the game. If the game does not respond, check its controller options and then try Steam Input in Steam’s controller settings. When a game has native DualSense support, avoid adding an unnecessary remapping layer: it may change button prompts or interfere with special features. Steam’s layout changes over time, so look for the current controller settings rather than relying on an old menu path.

Epic Games and other launchers
Support varies by title. For example, Epic’s Rocket League PC controller guidance lists DualSense among supported controllers. That does not establish support across all Epic Games Store titles.
A game may support DualSense natively, accept it as a generic controller, expect Xbox-style XInput input, or offer no controller support. For a game that does not recognize the controller, Steam Input may help if you add the game to Steam; a third-party remapper is another fallback. Which DualSense features work on PC?

Sony notes that feature availability can differ between a game’s PS5 and PC versions. Its PC-oriented DualSense product information likewise cautions that PC features vary by game. Basic input is broadly useful; a PC gamepad connection alone does not guarantee the full PS5 feature set.
Why does the game show Xbox button prompts?
That is usually a display or input-translation choice, not a sign that the controller has failed. Some PC games show A/B/X/Y prompts even while a DualSense works correctly. Steam Input may expose the controller to a game as an Xbox-compatible device, and the game chooses which icons to display.

- Check the game’s settings for PlayStation button prompts.
- If the game supports DualSense natively, try that input path without extra remapping.
- If you use Steam Input, check its configuration.
- If no PlayStation prompts are available, use the Xbox icons positionally; the button layout can still work.
Troubleshoot a controller that is not working
Windows does not detect it
- Try a known data-capable USB-C cable and another USB port.
- If using Bluetooth, remove the old controller entry from Windows Bluetooth settings, then pair again using Create and PS.
- Restart Windows and reconnect the controller.
- Update the controller firmware with PlayStation Accessories.
- Reset the controller using the small reset button on its rear, then try connecting again.
- Test it with another game or device to help distinguish a game issue from a connection or controller issue.
Sony recommends resetting the controller if normal connection steps fail. If the connection problem persists, consult Sony’s connection troubleshooting guidance.
Windows sees it, but the game does not
- Close the game and disconnect other controllers so the game has fewer devices to choose from.
- Connect the DualSense, restart the launcher if needed, and then relaunch the game.
- Check that the game supports controllers and review its in-game controller settings.
- For a Steam game, test Steam Input. For a non-Steam game, consider adding it to Steam or using a remapper if the game needs one.
- Disable competing remapping software or controller utilities while testing; do not run several input-translation layers at once.
Controls work, but haptics or vibration do not
- Check whether the PC version of the game supports DualSense effects and whether vibration is enabled in its settings.
- Use USB for PC haptics; Sony specifies that requirement when a supported game provides haptic feedback.
- If using Steam Input or another remapper, test the game’s native controller support without that extra layer.
- Update the controller firmware if it is out of date.
Bluetooth disconnects or feels unreliable
- Move closer to the PC and temporarily disconnect unnecessary Bluetooth devices.
- Update the PC’s Bluetooth drivers and re-pair the controller after removing its old Bluetooth entry.
- If using an external Bluetooth adapter, try another USB port and avoid a congested hub.
- Test with USB. If wired play is stable, the issue is likely specific to the wireless setup rather than the game’s controller support.
Do you need DS4Windows or another remapper?
No—not for ordinary USB or Bluetooth use when Windows and the game support the DualSense. Try the game’s native support first, then Steam Input for Steam games. Consider a third-party remapper only when a non-Steam game does not recognize the controller and other options are insufficient. It adds another software layer, can conflict with Steam Input, overlays or other utilities, and is not an official Sony requirement.
USB or Bluetooth: which should you choose?
- Choose USB for the simplest setup, charging while playing, the best chance of supported PC haptics, headset-jack use, or troubleshooting an unreliable wireless connection.
- Choose Bluetooth for cable-free play when the PC has reliable Bluetooth and ordinary button, stick and trigger input is enough.
If you alternate between PC and PS5, reconnect the controller to the console by attaching it with a compatible USB cable and pressing the PS button. Once paired again, you can remove the cable for wireless PS5 use. Sony has also announced firmware-based multi-device pairing, including Windows PC pairing profiles; treat that as an optional feature whose availability depends on the controller firmware, rather than a requirement for the basic connection method. Other ways to use a DualSense on a PC
A DualSense can also work with compatible applications, including supported game launchers and PlayStation Remote Play. Remote Play streams a PS5 or PS4 session to the PC; it is different from running a native PC game, and the network connection affects the streamed experience. Sony describes DualSense use with supported Remote Play sessions in its controller connection guide. Emulators, cloud gaming, media apps and general Windows navigation vary by application; desktop control may require a mapping layer.
An Xbox-compatible controller can be a lower-friction option for Windows games built around Microsoft’s XInput conventions, but there is no need to replace a DualSense that already works for your games. DualSense Edge offers additional controls and customization, but it does not guarantee that every game supports the controller or its advanced features.
