Generally, no. A PS5 does not provide a supported way to move PS5 save files, trophies, digital purchases, DLC licenses, PlayStation Plus membership, or wallet funds from one PlayStation Network account to another. Sony’s transfer and backup tools move data between consoles while preserving the same account. A separate account can often play games through Console Sharing and Offline Play, but that is shared access—not an account migration.
“Game data” can mean several different things
Before choosing a transfer method, identify what you actually need to move:
- Saved data: local campaign or settings files.
- Installed games: the game files stored on the console or USB extended storage.
- Digital licenses and DLC: entitlements belonging to the purchasing account.
- Trophies: part of a PSN account’s profile.
- Cloud saves: data uploaded to the account’s PlayStation Plus storage.
- Publisher progress: online data held by an EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Epic, Bungie, Rockstar, or other third-party account.
These categories do not all follow the same rules. Moving an installed game is not the same as moving its save, ownership, or trophies.
What can move between PS5 consoles?
Sony’s PS5 data-transfer feature is for setting up another console, not changing the owner of data. With the same PSN account signed in on both systems, it can copy compatible saved data, games, screenshots, video clips, settings, and user information. Existing data on the destination is not automatically merged into the source account.

PS5-to-PS5 network transfer
- Update both consoles and synchronize trophies on the source system.
- Sign into the same account on both PS5 consoles.
- Connect the consoles to the same network; a wired LAN connection can improve speed.
- On the destination PS5, open Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer.
- Select Continue and follow the on-screen instructions. Do not power off either console or change network settings during the transfer.
This preserves the account identity. It does not turn the copied save into data owned by a different PSN account.
PlayStation Plus cloud storage
Cloud storage is also account-bound. On the original console, sign into the original account and open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then choose Saved Data (PS5) and the cloud upload or download controls. On the new console, sign into that same account and download or synchronize the save. PS4 games have separate Saved Data (PS4) controls. Sony’s U.S. support material lists 100 GB of cloud storage for PS5 and PS4 saves; access requires the applicable PlayStation Plus service.
A different account cannot browse that cloud folder or download the original account’s save.
USB drives: PS4 saves are different
Sony allows PS4 saved data to be copied to a compatible USB drive and then copied to a PS5. That is a console-transfer option, not a general account-conversion method. PS5-native saves cannot be exported as ordinary files to USB for another account.
A full PS5 backup is likewise linked to the account used to create it. Sony warns that restoring a backup erases data currently on the destination console, and the system software must be at least as new as the software present when the backup was made. Restoration also turns off Console Sharing and Offline Play, which may need to be enabled again. See Sony’s backup and restore guide before using this destructive option.
What cannot be transferred to another PSN account?

Let another account play your purchased games
If your goal is access rather than ownership or progress, the purchasing account can enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on one PS5:
- Sign in to the account that bought the games.
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
- Keep the games installed, or download them from the owner’s library.
- Have the second user sign into their own account and launch the game.
Sony limits this setting to one PS5 at a time for an account. The second user normally receives a separate save and trophy profile. Console Sharing does not transfer ownership, trophies, saves, wallet funds, purchase history, Plus membership, or publisher-account progress. Some online features and DLC may still require the purchasing account, a subscription, a matching region, or a linked publisher account.

If you only want a new email address or online ID
Do not create a second account merely because your email address changed. If you still control the original account, change its sign-in email or online ID through the account settings and preserve the account identity. Verify recovery details first. Older games and some third-party services can have online-ID compatibility limitations, so check current PlayStation guidance for affected titles.
If you cannot sign in, use PlayStation account recovery and support. Do not delete the old user profile or overwrite local saves while investigating. Creating a new account will not inherit the old account’s saves, trophies, purchases, or wallet balance. PlayStation’s terms also restrict sharing, selling, renting, sublicensing, or transferring account credentials; support is not a guaranteed account-merge service.
Game-specific exceptions: publisher accounts
Some online games keep progression on the publisher’s servers rather than entirely in a PS5 save. A publisher account may allow progress to follow you across platforms or PSN accounts, but only if that game’s policy permits it. Linking a different PSN account can be restricted, irreversible, or subject to a waiting period.

A PS4 save may or may not be recognized by the PS5 version of the same game. Developers decide whether cross-generation transfer is supported, whether an in-game upload/download is required, and whether the process is one-way. Before deleting anything, verify:
- that the PS5 edition can read the PS4 save;
- whether an in-game migration tool is required;
- whether trophies or DLC are affected; and
- that the disc region and account/game region are compatible.

Choose the method that matches your goal

Bottom line
PS5 supports same-account console migration, not a general account-to-account transfer. Use Data Transfer, PlayStation Plus cloud storage, or PS4 USB copying when you are moving to another console and keeping the original PSN identity. Use Console Sharing when another user only needs access to purchased games. If preserving saves, trophies, purchases, or membership matters, recovering and continuing the original account is the safest route.

Can I move a PS5 save to a USB drive?
Not as an ordinary transferable file. Sony supports USB copying for PS4 saved data, but PS5-native saves use console transfer or account-linked cloud storage.
Can I merge two PlayStation accounts?
There is no general supported account-merge process. Account recovery is the correct route when the issue is a changed email, lost password, or compromised account.
Can another account play my digital PS5 games?
Usually, yes, on one designated PS5 after the purchasing account enables Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play > Enable. This does not transfer saves, trophies, or ownership.
Can I transfer Fortnite, EA, Ubisoft, or Call of Duty progress?
Possibly, if the publisher stores progress in its own account system and allows the relevant PSN account link. Check that game’s official policy; publisher progress does not automatically transfer PSN trophies or purchases.

It can remove locally stored data associated with that user. Do not delete the profile while trying to recover an account; first use same-account cloud, console-transfer, or official support options.
