Yes—but only compatible Garmin models can share the function you want. Two Garmin displays may share live sonar, waypoints, routes, tracks, GPS data, radar, or other accessories, but the connection method depends on the exact series, generation, transducer, ports, and software. Before buying a cable, identify both model numbers and decide whether you need full network sharing or only navigation-data transfer.

Garmin’s Marine Network compatibility information is the controlling reference for current and legacy combinations. A network-looking port does not make every Garmin device interchangeable.
What does “connect” mean?
Networking two displays can mean several different things:

- Power: Each display normally needs its own compatible power connection. A network cable does not usually power one unit from the other.
- Live sonar: A compatible display, transducer, or sonar module may provide sonar data to another display.
- User data: Waypoints, routes, and tracks may synchronize or transfer, depending on the connection.
- Charts: Chart sharing has separate restrictions. A network connection does not automatically give both units access to every installed chart.
- Accessories: Compatible radar, Panoptix, LiveScope, GPS sources, and sonar modules may be shared through a Marine Network.
How to wirelessly connect two ECHOMAP UHD2 or Ultra 2 units
Supported ECHOMAP UHD2 and ECHOMAP Ultra 2 chartplotters can pair wirelessly. Garmin specifies an operating distance of approximately 32 m (105 ft) for this pairing procedure, and only two chartplotters can be paired at once. Menu names may vary slightly with software version.

On the host unit
- Open the settings menu.
- Select Communications.
- Select Wi‑Fi Network.
- Turn Wi‑Fi on.
- Select Host.
- Select Pair Chartplotter.
- Select Start.
On the client unit
- Open Communications > Wi‑Fi Network.
- Turn Wi‑Fi on.
- Select Client.
- Select Pair Host.
- Select Start.
- Select OK when the devices connect.
After pairing, user data synchronizes automatically. If only one unit has a transducer, that unit can supply supported sonar to both. If both have transducers, each generally uses its own sonar source, although you can change the source manually.
Built-in Traditional, ClearVü, and SideVü sonar can be shared wirelessly on supported units. LiveScope cannot be shared wirelessly; it requires a physical Garmin Marine Network connection. Charts also are not shared wirelessly. To disconnect the client, open Communications > Wi‑Fi Network and select Unpair.

For a permanent installation, or for radar, LiveScope, Panoptix, or an external sonar module, use a wired Garmin Marine Network connection when Garmin lists the exact devices as compatible.

- Check Garmin’s Marine Network compatibility information for both exact model numbers.
- Use a genuine Garmin Marine Network cable.
- Connect the cable to the compatible network ports on both devices.
- Power on both displays and any networked accessories.
- Select the appropriate sonar source on the receiving display if it does not appear automatically.
- Update the software on the displays and network equipment before troubleshooting.
Garmin warns against using ordinary CAT5 cable or RJ‑45 connectors in place of its Marine Network cables. A compatible network switch or port expander must also be powered and supported.
Grounding matters
All devices on a Garmin Marine Network must share a common ground. If the equipment uses more than one power source, tie the grounds together through a low-resistance connection or common ground bus. Poor grounding can cause detection, communication, or intermittent-power problems. Garmin explains the cable and grounding requirements in its Marine Network guidance.

“May share” is important here. The display’s sonar hardware, the transducer, the receiving unit’s supported formats, and software compatibility all affect the result. Garmin notes, for example, that a UHD-capable chartplotter can share sonar with a non-UHD-compatible chartplotter, but the receiving display presents it as sonar from a non-UHD transducer. How STRIKER units share waypoints and routes
Compatible STRIKER, STRIKER Plus, and STRIKER Vivid units can share user data with certain ECHOMAP or echoMAP devices through their power/data cables. This uses NMEA 0183-style wiring—not Ethernet or the Garmin Marine Network.
- Blue wire: transmit
- Brown wire: receive
Typical setup is to connect the compatible blue and brown wires, then enable User Data Sharing. On supported STRIKER or echoMAP CHIRP models, the path is usually User Data > Manage Data > User Data Sharing. Menu paths differ among models.
This method can transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks, but it does not turn the units into a full Marine Network or share live sonar, LiveScope, radar, or other Ethernet network accessories. Some 7-inch and 9-inch ECHOMAP CHIRP, Plus, and UHD models do not support user-data sharing through their physical data wires; verify the exact model first. Garmin documents the relevant STRIKER and ECHOMAP data-sharing limitations.

Sometimes. Compatible chartplotters can share sonar from one transducer over a Garmin Marine Network, but the display, sonar type, transducer, and software must all support the arrangement. A cable alone does not guarantee that a single transducer will work on both screens.

Using two transducers is also possible in some installations, but simultaneous operation can create interference. If two transducers operate at or near the same frequency, Garmin recommends a difference of at least 50 kHz. As a diagnostic step, turn one transducer off and check whether the interference disappears. See Garmin’s transducer-interference guidance.

User data
Compatible UHD2 and Ultra 2 units synchronize user data wirelessly. Compatible wired ECHOMAP systems can also synchronize waypoints, tracks, and routes after enabling Nav Info > Manage Data > User Data Sharing > On. Back up the data first: some systems merge networked data rather than treating one display as read-only. Garmin describes this behavior in its user-data synchronization documentation.
Depending on the model, a microSD card may provide another way to transfer user data.
Charts
Do not assume that charts follow the network. Wireless UHD2 and Ultra 2 pairing does not share charts. Wired chart behavior also has exceptions involving preloaded maps, supplemental charts, and different cartography. Check the chart situation separately for each display.

GPS
Compatible Marine Network or NMEA 2000 systems may share GPS data. If multiple GPS sources are active, select one preferred source so the displays use a consistent position. On current GPSMAP units, the path is Options > Settings > System > Satellite Positioning > Source; ECHOMAP labels can differ. Garmin’s GPS-source guidance explains how to choose the source.
Why the connection may not work
The units do not detect each other
- Confirm the exact models are compatible.
- Check that the cable is a Garmin Marine Network cable, not ordinary CAT5.
- Make sure both units and any network switch are powered.
- Reseat every connector.
- Verify common grounding.
- Update compatible software.
- Check that a port expander or switch is supported and powered.
Sonar appears on only one screen
- Confirm the receiving display supports the sonar format.
- Manually select the remote sonar source.
- Verify the transducer is compatible with the transmitting unit.
- Use a physical Marine Network connection if the feature requires it, such as LiveScope sharing.
- Do not confuse STRIKER blue/brown data wiring with a sonar network.
Data is duplicated or merged
Back up waypoints, routes, and tracks before enabling automatic sharing. Network synchronization can merge data from both devices.
The units power on or off differently
Power behavior varies. GPSMAP units generally power together when networked. ECHOMAP Plus, UHD, and UHD2 units do not necessarily power together through the Marine Network, while ECHOMAP Ultra and Ultra 2 units can power together when networked.
What to check before buying a second Garmin
- Write down the complete model name and suffix, including whether it is STRIKER, ECHOMAP Plus, UHD, UHD2, Ultra, Ultra 2, or GPSMAP.
- Check the generation and Garmin’s current compatibility table.
- Identify the desired shared function: live sonar, LiveScope, waypoints, charts, radar, GPS, or something else.
- Check each unit for a Garmin Marine Network port, NMEA 0183 wires, NMEA 2000 support, and Wi‑Fi pairing.
- Identify the transducer type, sonar format, and operating frequency.
- Decide whether one transducer will serve both displays or whether both will transmit.
- Plan cable routing, power connections, network equipment, and common grounding.
- Confirm both units can run compatible software.
The safest purchase sequence is: identify the exact pair, verify the desired shared feature in Garmin’s compatibility documentation, then buy the required display, Marine Network cable, data-sharing cable, switch, or transducer. An ordinary Ethernet cable is not a safe substitute, and a Marine Network cable will not overcome an unsupported ECHOMAP/GPSMAP combination.
