Yes. You can add two or more separate email accounts to the Outlook app on Windows, Mac, iPhone, or Android and manage them from one place. Each account keeps its own inbox and sign-in; adding both to Outlook does not merge the accounts. If you want two addresses for one inbox, you need an alias instead.
First, identify what you mean by “two Outlook accounts”
“Outlook” can mean Microsoft’s email service, a Microsoft sign-in, or the app used to read mail. Choosing the right setup depends on whether you need separate mailboxes, another address for the same mailbox, or access to a team mailbox.

An Outlook.com address is a Microsoft-hosted email identity, commonly ending in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com. A Microsoft account is the broader sign-in identity for services such as Outlook.com and OneDrive. A work or school account is managed by an organization, often using Exchange Online. The Outlook app can connect to multiple supported accounts, but it does not turn them into one Microsoft identity.
How to add a second account in Outlook for Windows
New Outlook for Windows
- Open new Outlook.
- Select View > View settings, or select File > Account info.
- Choose Accounts > Your accounts.
- Under Email accounts, select Add Account.
- Choose a suggested provider or enter the second email address, then select Continue.
- Sign in, complete any multifactor-authentication prompts, and select Done.
The added account should appear in the account list and folder pane with its own inbox and folders. New Outlook supports a range of account types, including Outlook.com, Microsoft 365, Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, IMAP, and POP, subject to the account provider and setup requirements. To make an account primary in new Outlook, go to View > View settings > Accounts > Your accounts, select Manage beside the account, and choose Set as primary account.
Classic Outlook for Windows
- Open classic Outlook and select File > Add Account.
- Enter the second email address and select Connect.
- Sign in and complete any verification prompts, then finish setup. Restart Outlook if prompted.

Remove an account without deleting it
Removing an account from Outlook removes it from the app; it does not delete the email or Microsoft account itself. In new Outlook, removal also deletes that account’s offline cached content from the device. Confirm important mail is synchronized before removing the account.
How to add a second account in Outlook for Mac
- Open Outlook and select Outlook > Settings.
- Choose Accounts > Add Account.
- Enter the email address, select Continue, and complete the sign-in and provider permission prompts.
- Select Done.
Depending on the Mac version, you can also select Tools > Accounts, then + Add Account beneath the account list. Outlook for Mac documents support for multiple Microsoft 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Google, IMAP, and POP accounts. Refer to Microsoft’s Outlook for Mac account instructions.

How to add a second account in Outlook mobile
- Open Outlook and open the account or profile menu.
- Go to Settings, then select Add Account.
- Choose Add an email account, enter the address, and sign in.
- Complete multifactor authentication if requested.
On Android, Microsoft’s documented route is Menu > Settings > Add Account. Labels can differ slightly by app version and device. Microsoft documents a limit of 15 mail accounts using non-Microsoft Sync Technology in Outlook for iOS and Android; this is not a claim that every kind of account has the same 15-account limit. Once added, use the account menu to switch between accounts. Outlook mobile can also offer a combined inbox view; check which account owns a message before replying or sending.
Keep mail together or keep account boundaries visible
Adding accounts to one Outlook app gives you one place to check mail, but it does not combine the underlying mailboxes. Each account keeps its own folders, authentication, calendar, contacts, and rules. You can work from each account’s folder list or use an available combined view to see mail together. Separate folders make it easier to tell which account received a message; a combined view is convenient but can make account ownership less obvious.
If you want stronger separation than folders provide, Outlook for Mac supports profiles that can separate account boundaries, notifications, themes, and Focus Filters. Profile behavior is platform-specific; Microsoft’s profile guide covers Outlook for Mac.

Check the From address before sending
When more than one account is configured, Outlook’s From control lets you choose which account sends a message. In new Outlook for Windows, select New > Mail, open the From dropdown at the top of the message, and choose the intended address. Microsoft describes the selector in its email-message instructions.
- Before sending, confirm the visible From address matches the intended personal, work, or school identity.
- Do not assume a reply will use the right account for every situation; check it, especially for sensitive work/personal messages.
- If the From field is not visible, look in the compose window’s options or message controls for the account selector; labels vary across Outlook versions.
Second account or Outlook.com alias?
Use a separate account when you need an independent mailbox and sign-in. Use an alias when you want another address to reach the same mailbox. For example, an alias can provide a different public address for registrations or newsletters while keeping one inbox and password. It is not a second independent mailbox.

Microsoft does not allow a work or school address, an address already attached to another Microsoft account, or an existing Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com, or MSN address to be added as an alias to another Microsoft account. Removing a Microsoft-domain alias can permanently delete it and make it unavailable for reuse. Check Microsoft’s alias rules and management steps before changing one.

No. Microsoft says separate personal Microsoft accounts cannot be linked, merged, or combined. Adding both to Outlook combines access in the app, not the account identities or their data. Purchases, balances, game progress, and similar account data do not simply transfer between personal accounts. See Microsoft’s explanation of combining Microsoft accounts.

What if you use Outlook on the web?
Outlook on the web does not provide the same general experience for connecting multiple unrelated accounts as the desktop and mobile apps. Microsoft’s Outlook platform comparison distinguishes multi-account support by platform. Microsoft has also removed the ability to add or synchronize new third-party connected accounts, such as Gmail, inside Outlook.com.
- Use separate browser profiles or sessions: Sign in to different accounts in separate browser profiles or windows when you need web access to both.
- Use Outlook desktop or mobile: Add supported accounts there for a more direct multi-account experience.
- Forward mail: Forwarding from another provider can bring incoming messages to Outlook.com, but it does not fully synchronize the other mailbox, its sent mail, folders, contacts, or calendar.
- For a shared work mailbox: Use the delegated access provided by your organization rather than treating it as an unrelated personal sign-in.

A shared mailbox is designed for a group that handles mail sent to an address such as info@ or support@. A Microsoft 365 administrator must create it and grant members access. Users generally should not sign in directly using the shared mailbox’s own credentials. After access is granted, it may appear automatically in Outlook, or you can add it from the folder pane using Add shared folder or mailbox. Sending from the shared address requires the appropriate permission.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
Outlook keeps asking for the password
First complete any pending multifactor-authentication approval or browser sign-in. Repeated prompts can also result from an outdated Outlook build, the wrong account type, provider-specific authentication requirements, or an organization’s conditional-access policy. Some classic Outlook setups for Outlook.com accounts with two-step verification may require an app password, but that is not a universal fix; use the sign-in method your provider or organization supports. For work or school access, ask the administrator if policy is blocking the sign-in.
The account was added but is missing from the folder pane
- Check Accounts > Your accounts in new Outlook to confirm it was added.
- Close and reopen Outlook, then check whether the account or its folders are collapsed in the navigation pane.
- Verify the address and provider, and complete any pending browser sign-in or consent prompt.
- If it is a work or school account, check with the organization’s administrator about access restrictions.
- Remove and re-add the account only after confirming that important offline content is synchronized.
A work or school account is blocked
Outlook supporting multiple accounts does not override an employer’s security rules. Conditional access, device management, Exchange configuration, or a policy against personal accounts in a managed environment can prevent setup. Contact the organization’s IT administrator rather than repeatedly trying different account types.
A shared mailbox will not open
Confirm that an administrator has assigned you the required mailbox permissions. A shared mailbox is not normally configured by signing in with a separate mailbox password; use the access method your administrator has set up.
An older mail app or device cannot connect to Outlook.com
Microsoft says devices using ActiveSync versions below 16.1 will no longer connect to Microsoft services beginning March 1, 2026. This change concerns older third-party apps or devices; it is not a general ban on adding accounts to current Outlook apps. See Microsoft’s Outlook.com setup guidance for compatible sign-in options.
