Yes—but you probably do not need to delete your entire Cloudflare account. If you want to leave Cloudflare for one website, move its DNS to another provider and remove the domain from Cloudflare. If you want to stop charges, cancel subscriptions separately. If Cloudflare is your registrar, transfer the domain rather than deleting its registration if you want to keep it.

A Cloudflare zone is a domain’s configuration in Cloudflare; it is not the domain registration, your website files, your Cloudflare user profile, or a subscription. Treat those as separate things.
Before removing a domain: prepare the replacement DNS
Do not change nameservers until the replacement DNS provider has the records your site and services need. Cloudflare recommends saving the zone’s settings before removal. Export or copy the records and check them against your hosting and email providers.
- Website: Record the apex/root domain and
wwwA, AAAA, or CNAME records, plus any records for subdomains, APIs, or apps. - Email: Copy MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. Missing mail records can stop incoming or outgoing email even when the website still loads.
- Verification: Preserve TXT or CNAME records used by Google, Microsoft, payment providers, analytics, and other services.
- DNSSEC: Check whether DNSSEC is enabled and whether a DS record is present at your registrar. A mismatched DS record can make the domain fail to resolve after a DNS move.
- Cloudflare-specific behavior: Inventory proxying, TLS settings, redirects, caching, WAF rules, Workers, Pages, tunnels, access policies, and logging. Recreate anything essential at the origin or replacement provider before leaving.
If you only want to diagnose a problem, pausing Cloudflare or making a specific record DNS-only is a smaller and more reversible test than removing the zone.

How to stop using Cloudflare for one domain
- Set up the domain with your new DNS provider and recreate the records you saved. Verify the provider has the right web, mail, and verification records.
- At the domain registrar, check DNSSEC. Cloudflare’s removal guidance advises checking for a DS record and removing it at the registrar when necessary for the change.
- In the Cloudflare dashboard, select the account and domain, open Overview, and under Advanced Actions choose Remove from Cloudflare. Confirm the removal. Enterprise domains may need to be changed to the Free plan before this option is available.
- At the registrar, replace Cloudflare’s nameservers with the nameservers provided by your new DNS host. Removing the zone from Cloudflare and changing nameservers are related but distinct steps; complete both when moving away.
- Check that the domain resolves and test the website, subdomains, and email. DNS changes do not have one guaranteed propagation time, so verify from more than one network or resolver if results differ.
Cloudflare’s domain-removal instructions cover the dashboard path and nameserver change. For basic checks, these diagnostic commands can help show what public DNS returns:

dig TXT example.comReplace example.com with your domain. These checks do not prove every application feature works, so also test the site and mail directly.
What removal does—and does not do
Removing a domain from Cloudflare does not delete its registration or your website files. It removes the Cloudflare zone. If DNS at the new provider is incomplete, however, visitors may not reach the site and email or other services may fail.

Cloudflare’s current documentation says a removed zone may be re-added with a new nameserver pair, so you may have to update nameservers again. Deleted zones are purged after seven days by default; after purge, Cloudflare does not expect the old configuration to be restorable, and Support cannot restore deleted DNS or settings. Export first rather than relying on re-adding the domain as a backup. See Cloudflare’s zone-removal notes and its deleted-zone recovery guidance.
Cloudflare says removing a domain cancels active subscriptions associated with that domain, without refunding those charges. Still review Billing → Subscriptions yourself: other products or account-level subscriptions may remain, and adding the domain again can require purchasing subscriptions again.
How to stop Cloudflare charges
Cancel each subscription explicitly; a nameserver change does not stop billing. Cloudflare’s documented dashboard route is Billing → Subscriptions. Find the product under active subscriptions or plan extensions, turn off the product feature first if required, choose Cancel, select a reason, and confirm. For some products, cancellation means changing to the Free plan rather than using a separate Cancel button.

According to Cloudflare’s subscription-cancellation documentation, cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, paid features remain available until then, and unused time is not refunded. Billing dates use UTC; Cloudflare advises making changes at least 24 hours before the billing date to avoid timing issues. Check each subscription’s status and next billing date after cancelling.

Your registration is separate from Cloudflare DNS. If you want to retain the domain but use another registrar, transfer it; Cloudflare’s domain-management guidance distinguishes transfer from deletion.
- Keep it at Cloudflare: You can disable auto-renewal if you want to stop a future renewal, but the domain may eventually expire. That is not an immediate deletion and risks losing the name.
- Keep it, move it: Transfer the domain to another registrar and follow the transfer requirements for that domain.
- Relinquish it: Delete the registration only if you intend to give up ownership. Cloudflare describes this as irreversible; after the process completes, someone else may be able to register the name.
Deletion may be blocked by registrar or registry locks, pending transfer or deletion states, legal or abuse investigations, payment issues, or domain-specific rules. Cloudflare’s Registrar FAQ says .UK domains currently cannot be deleted at the registry. Do not delete a registration simply to move DNS or leave Cloudflare.

How to delete your Cloudflare account
Delete the account only after you have checked every domain, subscription, and account relationship you depend on. Cloudflare’s account-deletion instructions list these prerequisites:
- Cancel subscriptions and add-on services.
- Remove every domain from Cloudflare and replace Cloudflare nameservers at the registrar.
- For Cloudflare Registrar domains, disable auto-renewal or transfer/manage the domain as appropriate before deleting the account.
- If using a CNAME or partial setup, move DNS as needed.
- Delete payment information. Download invoices first if you need to retain them.
Then log in, open My Profile, select Delete this user, choose Delete user, and follow the confirmation prompts.

This is permanent and can affect more than one domain. A profile may have access to multiple Cloudflare accounts; accounts where you are the last active member may be deleted, and accounts for which you are the primary owner may also be deleted, with other users removed. Audit ownership and collaborators before proceeding. For SSO accounts, a super administrator may need to delete the account.

Cloudflare says personal information will be purged within one year of a deletion request unless it must be retained for legal obligations, abuse investigations, or litigation. Do not interpret account deletion as a promise that every record disappears immediately. In specialized organizational environments, some resources may also need manual cleanup; Cloudflare notes that certain Logpush jobs and Zero Trust Gateway configurations can continue after account deletion. Common problems after leaving
- The site no longer opens: Check the replacement provider’s apex and
wwwrecords, then verify the registrar is using that provider’s nameservers. - Email stopped: Check MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records at the active DNS provider.
- DNSSEC errors: Check the registrar’s DS record and the DNSSEC configuration at the new provider; do not leave a stale DS record in place.
- Charges continue: Review Billing → Subscriptions; changing nameservers alone is not cancellation.
- Removal is unavailable: Check whether the domain is on an Enterprise plan and whether it must be moved to Free first.
- You removed a zone and need its settings: Use your own DNS export or backup. Cloudflare says it cannot restore deleted zone settings after deletion/purge.
Deleting all DNS records is not the same as leaving Cloudflare. It can break the site, mail, APIs, and verification. Do not bulk-delete records unless you have a specific reason and a saved copy; Cloudflare documents the operation in its DNS record deletion guide.
Bottom line: remove only what you need
For most people, the safe path is to copy DNS records, configure the replacement provider, change nameservers, remove the domain from Cloudflare, and cancel any remaining subscriptions. Transfer a Cloudflare-registered domain if you want to keep it. Delete the entire account only when you have checked shared ownership, billing, and every Cloudflare resource attached to it.
