Modern Samsung Galaxy phones do not have a universal, no-data-loss lock-screen bypass. Try the five legitimate recovery routes below in order. The first four may preserve data only when the required feature was available or configured beforehand; the fifth recovers existing backups and may require a factory reset that erases local storage.

Before trying anything, stop repeatedly guessing, keep the phone charged, and do not choose an erase or factory-reset option until you have checked your backups. If the device belongs to an employer or school, contact its administrator instead of attempting recovery yourself.
1. Use the previous PIN, password, or pattern within 72 hours
This is the strongest current official no-wipe option for a recent lock change. Samsung says Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later can retain the previous screen-lock method for 72 hours after the PIN, password, or pattern is changed.

- Enter an incorrect lock method until Forgot PIN?, Forgot password?, or Forgot pattern? appears.
- Tap the relevant Forgot option.
- Enter the previous PIN, password, or pattern.
- Create a new screen-lock method.
- Back up the phone immediately and store the new credential securely.
Samsung’s regional instructions say the recovery prompt appears after five or more failed attempts. They also warn that three incorrect entries in this recovery flow can end the recovery option. Do not keep guessing if the prompt does not appear.

This method will not help if the lock was not changed recently, the 72-hour window has expired, the phone runs an older One UI version, or the previous credential is unknown. See Samsung’s official lock-screen troubleshooting guide and its previous-lock instructions.
2. Try an already-authorized fingerprint or face unlock
If the lock screen still offers fingerprint or face recognition, make one or two careful attempts. This is normal authentication, not an exploit, and it does not erase the phone.
If it works, immediately open Settings and change the screen lock. Then back up photos, files, contacts, messages, and other important data before changing anything else.
Biometrics may be unavailable after:
- A restart or power loss.
- A period of inactivity or a security timeout.
- Too many failed biometric attempts.
- Certain security, policy, or account changes.
- Requirements imposed by a work profile or device administrator.
A working fingerprint sensor does not guarantee that fingerprint authentication is currently permitted. Android deliberately requires the primary PIN, password, or pattern after some security events. Samsung also advises checking its current device-specific troubleshooting steps.
3. Test previously configured Extend Unlock or Smart Lock
Samsung’s Extend Unlock features, historically called Smart Lock on some devices, can keep an already-unlocked phone accessible under conditions such as a trusted Bluetooth device, trusted place, or on-body detection.

This can help only if it was configured before the lockout. You cannot set it up from the lock screen, and a restart or timeout may still force the primary credential.
Possible things to try
- Return to a previously configured trusted location.
- Reconnect a Bluetooth device that was already trusted.
- If on-body detection was enabled, check whether the phone remains in the state that allowed it to stay unlocked.
If the phone opens, back up your data immediately, change the screen lock, and review whether any trusted-unlock conditions should remain enabled. Samsung’s regional support guidance explains the feature and its limitations.

4. Check Samsung Find for a genuine Unlock button
Older Samsung documentation describes a Remote unlock feature through Find My Mobile or SmartThings Find. However, current Samsung support pages primarily document locating, ringing, tracking, locking, and erasing devices. Samsung community support has also indicated that some remote-unlock features were terminated for security reasons.
A regional Samsung page updated in 2026 still describes remote unlocking, so availability is inconsistent. Treat this as a verification step—not a guaranteed method.
Safe verification
- Sign in to the Samsung account associated with the Galaxy device.
- Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find.
- Select the exact phone or tablet.
- Check whether an Unlock control is visibly offered.
- If the page shows only options such as Lock, Ring, Track location, or Erase data, do not assume an unlock option is hidden elsewhere.
Availability can depend on the model, region, carrier, software version, Samsung account, network connection, battery state, and whether remote controls were enabled beforehand. Do not confuse a remote-lock PIN with removal of the existing screen credential.

Never select Erase data while seeking a no-data-loss recovery. Samsung says remote erase performs a factory-data reset and may activate Google device protection. Its documentation on locating and securing Galaxy devices describes the current remote actions. Historical documentation is available in Samsung’s older Find My Mobile guide.
5. Recover existing backups, then reset only if necessary
This does not unlock the phone without wiping it. It is the practical recovery route when no supported no-wipe option remains.
Check these accounts and locations first
- Sign in to the Google account used on the device and check Google Photos and Google backup information.
- Check Samsung account services and any Samsung Cloud data supported for your model and region.
- Check OneDrive if Samsung Gallery synchronization was enabled.
- Check WhatsApp or other app-specific cloud backups.
- Look for a computer backup previously made with Samsung Smart Switch.
- Check a microSD card, while remembering that encryption and app-specific storage can limit what it contains.
Verify that the files you need are actually present. A cloud account may contain photos but not local downloads, contacts but not SMS history, or app data only when the app supports its own backup system. Secure Folder and work-profile data may not be included in ordinary backups.
Only after checking the backups should you consider an official reset through Samsung Find, Google Find Hub, or the device’s recovery process. A factory reset deletes local user data. It can restore only information that was already backed up and supported by the relevant service.
After a reset, Google device protection may require the Google account previously associated with the phone. Keep both the Samsung and Google account credentials available. Samsung explains the consequences of remote erasure in its device-location and security documentation.

What Google Find Hub, Smart Switch, and ADB can—and cannot—do
Google Find Hub
Google Find Hub can help locate, ring, lock, or erase a compatible device. Samsung’s current guidance does not describe it as a remote-unlock tool. Use it to check location or recover backed-up data, not to remove a forgotten screen credential.
Samsung Smart Switch
Smart Switch is useful when the phone is already accessible or when a backup was created previously. It is not a dependable lock-screen bypass and cannot be expected to copy encrypted internal storage from a locked device.
USB debugging and ADB
ADB generally requires prior authorization on the phone. Connecting a locked, encrypted Galaxy device to a computer does not normally expose its internal files. Do not rely on ADB commands or a USB cable as a consumer recovery method.

A phone locked because of a security event is different from one where the owner forgot the credential. Samsung advises restarting the device and ensuring a stable network connection immediately after rebooting when security-related messaging is involved. Do not repeatedly guess the credential while troubleshooting a separate security or account issue.
If the keyboard does not appear
If you know the credential but cannot type it because a third-party keyboard is malfunctioning, Samsung documents a Safe Mode workaround:

- Hold Volume Down + Power/Side for about seven seconds to restart.
- During startup, hold Volume Down until Safe mode appears.
- Try entering the credential with Samsung Keyboard.
- Restart normally to leave Safe Mode.
Button behavior varies by Galaxy model. Safe Mode can solve an input problem; it cannot recover a forgotten PIN, password, or pattern. See Samsung’s lock-screen troubleshooting page for model-specific guidance.
Can Samsung support unlock it without deleting data?
Do not assume that a service center can guarantee a data-preserving unlock. Samsung’s public U.S. troubleshooting flow directs users who cannot use a supported recovery method toward reset, while authorized service can diagnose hardware or software problems and verify ownership.
If you visit an authorized service center, ask specifically whether the proposed procedure will preserve internal data. Obtain that answer before authorizing a reset, software reinstallation, or repair. Samsung’s authorized service locator can help you find an official location.
Why third-party “Samsung unlocker” tools are risky
A desktop program that promises “no data loss” may actually require a factory reset, support only old Android versions or narrow models, fail after a security update, install unwanted software, or request Samsung and Google credentials. Modern encryption also prevents many tools from simply reading locked internal storage.
Do not provide account passwords to an unverified unlock service, and do not install software that asks you to disable security protections or erase the device before explaining exactly what it will do. There is no responsible way to recommend a third-party utility as a guaranteed no-data-loss solution.
Decision tree
- Changed the lock within 72 hours? Try previous-lock recovery if the phone runs One UI 6.1 or later.
- Still offered fingerprint or face unlock? Try it, then change the credential and back up the phone.
- Configured Extend Unlock beforehand? Test the trusted place, device, or other existing condition.
- Does Samsung Find visibly show Unlock? Use it only after confirming the device and account.
- None of those worked? Verify cloud and computer backups before considering an official reset.
What to do after you regain access
- Back up photos, files, contacts, messages, and app data immediately.
- Enable Samsung Find and Google Find Hub.
- Confirm that Google Photos, Samsung services, OneDrive, and important apps are synchronizing.
- Keep the previous lock stored securely during any applicable 72-hour recovery window.
- Save recovery codes and confirm that you can sign in to both associated accounts.
- Test that backups contain the files you would actually need to restore.
For most current Galaxy owners, the realistic no-wipe possibilities are narrow: a recent lock change, an authentication method that remains authorized, a previously configured Extend Unlock condition, or a Samsung Find account that genuinely displays Unlock. If none applies, encryption and Android’s security model may make local data inaccessible until the correct credential is entered.
