Yes, the promotion was real—but it was not a current or nationwide Burger King offer. Burger King Brazil ran the one-day campaign on August 29, 2024, for Gamer’s Day. Customers at 23 selected Brazilian restaurants could exchange one qualifying burned, failed, or damaged internal PC or console component for a free Whopper sandwich, while supplies lasted.
The offer expired on that date and is not available as of August 18, 2026.
What Burger King actually offered
The reward was one Whopper sandwich, not necessarily a complete meal or combo with fries and a drink. The promotion was reported as a no-purchase exchange, but redemptions were limited by eligibility rules, store capacity, and product availability.

When and where the promotion happened
The campaign took place on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in connection with Brazil’s Gamer’s Day. It was limited to 23 participating Burger King restaurants—not every Burger King location in Brazil.
Coverage identified participating locations across São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, and the Federal District. Cities specifically mentioned included Brasília, Florianópolis, São José, Palhoça, São Paulo, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, and Porto Alegre.
Because the offer used CPF-based limits and Brazilian store locations, it was not a promotion for Burger King customers in the United States or other countries.

TecMundo’s contemporaneous report and other Brazilian outlets described the same date, store count, restrictions, and recycling partnership.
Which computer parts qualified?
The campaign focused on small internal components from computers or videogame consoles. Reported examples included:
- Motherboards and other circuit boards
- Processors
- RAM modules
- Coolers
- Power supplies and other power-related components
- Other small internal PC or console components covered by the campaign rules
The descriptions varied somewhat between reports, so it would be inaccurate to claim that every type of computer hardware qualified. In particular, graphics cards and hard drives should not be treated as automatically eligible without confirmation from the specific campaign rules.

Which items were excluded?
Common external peripherals were not accepted. Reported exclusions included:

A working part also did not clearly fit the campaign’s stated purpose. The offer was described for burned, failed, damaged, or otherwise unusable components. “Burned” did not necessarily mean visibly charred, but customers were not supposed to burn electronics themselves.
How the exchange worked
- Bring the qualifying failed internal component to a participating restaurant.
- Show it to an employee at the counter.
- Place the component in the campaign’s designated collection box.
- Receive one Whopper, subject to availability and the store’s remaining allocation.
The parts were not simply collected for Burger King’s ordinary trash disposal. The campaign used reverse logistics and recycling support from ABREE, the Brazilian Association for the Recycling of Electronics and Household Appliances. Reports said the collected components were intended for appropriate downstream handling through that partnership; that does not mean the final recycling outcome for every item was independently documented.

Important quantity limits
The campaign was first-come, first-served. Each participating restaurant had a limit tied to the type of operation:

That meant a location could run out of available Whoppers before the end of August 29. The limit was one sandwich per CPF, and supplies were not unlimited.

Why Burger King ran the campaign
The promotion served two stated purposes. First, it connected Burger King with gamers and the esports community around Gamer’s Day. Second, it encouraged consumers to send unwanted electronic components into an appropriate collection and recycling channel rather than leaving them in storage or discarding them with ordinary household waste.

ZAMP, Burger King’s Brazilian master franchisee, framed the activation as part of the brand’s relationship with the gaming community. The recycling element came through the ABREE partnership, while the Whopper exchange provided the campaign’s marketing hook.
Is the burned-parts-for-a-Whopper offer still available?
No. The promotion was valid only on August 29, 2024. It was a one-day marketing activation, not a permanent Burger King trade-in or recycling program. As of August 18, 2026, there is no basis in the reported campaign details for treating it as an active offer.
Do not take an old computer part to a Burger King expecting a free sandwich, and do not assume that the 2024 participating-store list still applies.

If you have a failed motherboard, processor, power supply, or other electronic component, use an established electronics-recycling service, municipal e-waste program, or manufacturer take-back scheme. Availability and accepted materials vary by country and city.
Do not burn electronics to make them eligible for any promotion. Avoid dismantling components unnecessarily, and never mail electronic waste to a Burger King restaurant. Proper recycling is the safer option for recovering materials and managing potentially hazardous substances.
The bottom line
The viral claim had a real basis, but the accurate version is much narrower: Burger King Brazil exchanged qualifying failed internal PC and console parts for a free Whopper on August 29, 2024, at 23 selected restaurants. It was not a full meal, not a U.S. promotion, not nationwide, and not still available in 2026.
