If you are considering leaving Bright Data, start by matching alternatives to your workload—not by choosing the provider with the biggest advertised pool or the lowest entry price. Decodo, Oxylabs, Webshare, SOAX and IPRoyal are candidates named in a 2026 Bright Data provider overview; Oxylabs is also the subject of Bright Data’s direct comparison with its own service. Those are vendor-published comparisons, not an independently verified ranking. Test the services you shortlist against your target websites, locations and expected volume before committing.

Which Bright Data alternatives are worth evaluating?

The available comparisons identify five alternatives to add to an initial shortlist: Decodo (formerly Smartproxy), Oxylabs, Webshare, SOAX and IPRoyal. Treat those names as starting points, not recommendations validated for your workload. The broad provider overview is published by Bright Data, which sells a competing service; its characterizations and reported figures should be read as vendor claims and checked against each provider’s current documentation.

Bright Data’s own head-to-head comparison gives the most direct comparison to Oxylabs. The overview characterizes Decodo as a budget all-rounder, SOAX as offering granular targeting, IPRoyal as offering non-expiring residential traffic, and Webshare as offering a free plan. These are descriptions from Bright Data’s overview, not independent findings or guarantees of current plan terms. Confirm details with the provider before purchase.

There is no evidence here to declare one provider universally best. The right choice depends on proxy type, target websites, geography, request volume, billing model, tooling, support and procurement requirements.

What are you buying: proxies or a scraping API?

“Proxy provider” is not a single product category. The comparisons cover residential, datacenter and ISP proxies, as well as related scraping API products. A proxy gives your application an intermediary route for requests; a managed scraping API may handle more of the collection workflow itself. They are related tools, but they are not interchangeable. Decide which kind of product your application actually needs before comparing providers or prices.

Choose the product type from the job

  • Residential proxies: Consider them when the task specifically calls for traffic routed through residential IPs. Assess access and reliability on your actual target sites; an advertised pool size does not establish success for your use case.
  • Datacenter proxies: Compare them if your workload can use datacenter IPs. Check whether the target sites, location needs and acceptable failure rate make this product type viable.
  • ISP proxies: Include them when the provider’s ISP offering matches your operational needs. Compare its terms and performance separately rather than assuming it behaves like either residential or datacenter inventory.
  • Scraping APIs: Evaluate these as managed products, not just as another proxy plan. Compare what the API handles, how it bills and whether its behavior fits your application.

Do not infer that every candidate offers every product type or that similarly named products include the same capabilities. Check the provider’s current product and technical documentation.

Bright Data and Oxylabs: what the direct comparison says

Bright Data’s 2026 comparison reports the following residential figures and starting prices for Bright Data and Oxylabs. The figures are claims in a competitor’s comparison, not independently verified measurements or guaranteed quotations.

Provider Residential reach reported by Bright Data Residential starting price reported by Bright Data How to interpret it
Bright Data 400M+ IPs across 195+ countries $5/GB Bright Data’s comparison says the page’s rates were verified in May 2026. It mentions a Bright Data promotion; do not treat a promotional rate as a durable price.
Oxylabs 175M+ IPs across 195 countries About $8/GB Bright Data’s comparison reports this starting price; verify current eligibility, billing and plan details with Oxylabs.

The comparison also covers datacenter, residential and ISP offerings, targeting, session options, public prices and some performance figures. Its reported reach describes claimed potential inventory, not the share of requests that will work on your target sites. Likewise, a starting price is not an apples-to-apples quote: plan size, billing terms, promotions and the features your workload needs can change the effective cost.

The 2026 overview also reports advertised proxy types, network figures, prices, plan details and ratings for providers it covers. Those values are volatile. Because the available comparisons do not establish a current, independently measured comparison across all candidates, use provider pages and your own representative test to fill in the details rather than extrapolating from a headline table.

How to compare providers fairly

Build a shortlist around one representative workload and evaluate every candidate against the same requirements. This makes the comparison more useful than lining up unrelated advertised pool sizes or entry prices.

1. Define the workload and the success condition

  • Record whether you need residential, datacenter, ISP or a managed scraping API.
  • List the target sites, the countries or locations required, request patterns, approximate volume and any session needs.
  • Define what counts as a successful output for your application. Distinguish a completed request from a useful result, and record failures and retries.

Success depends on the target and the method used to test it. Bright Data’s scraping API comparison explicitly cautions that results can vary by target. A benchmark on one website should not be generalized to another or treated as a forecast for your own workload.

2. Normalize costs around the same work

Do not compare a per-GB rate with a per-IP, per-request, credit-based or bandwidth price as if they were the same unit. Estimate the same workload for each provider and account for the billing unit, plan commitments, retries and any feature charges described in its terms. The Bright Data overview’s pricing table is dated May 2026; prices and offers may change, so get current terms from providers before deciding.

For an operational comparison, track the cost of useful successful outputs as well as the provider’s nominal unit price. A cheap unit that produces more failed requests or requires more retries may not be cheaper for your application. Measure this with your own defined success criteria; the available sources do not supply a universal cost-per-success figure.

3. Test target sites and locations you actually need

Run a controlled, representative test against the websites and locations that matter to you. Keep the test conditions comparable across providers, and record outcomes by target and location rather than collapsing everything into one success rate. Advertised geographic reach and network size are vendor-reported figures; they do not prove that a provider can meet your particular access requirements.

4. Evaluate scale and operational fit

Record results at a request volume and pattern that resemble expected production use. Ask how the provider’s tools, dashboards, APIs, onboarding and support channels fit your team. Verify trial or pay-as-you-go availability and its eligibility directly with the provider. The comparisons identify these as useful evaluation criteria, but do not establish that a particular trial or support arrangement will be available to every buyer.

5. Complete compliance and procurement checks

Review the provider’s sourcing and compliance disclosures against your organization’s requirements and relevant jurisdictions. Obtain documentation from the provider and verify certifications directly before a commercial agreement; do not infer them from a comparison article. If procurement needs specific contractual assurances, resolve those before designing a production dependency around a service.

What the benchmark figures do—and do not—show

Bright Data’s 2026 scraping API comparison cites Proxyway’s 2025 report as saying Shein averaged 21.88% success across providers and G2 averaged 36.63%. These are target-specific figures attributed to that benchmark as reported by Bright Data; they are not success rates for a particular provider, nor predictions for a different site. The underlying benchmark publications were not independently verified for this article, so do not use the numbers as a substitute for testing your own targets.

The same caution applies to network sizes, country counts, ratings, uptime and performance claims in vendor comparisons. Ask who measured a figure, how it was measured, when it was current, and whether the tested workload resembles yours. Where the answer is not documented, treat the claim as an indication to investigate, not a settled fact.

A practical shortlist and decision process

  1. List the product types that could fit. Separate proxy requirements from managed scraping API requirements, then identify the proxy type and geography your task needs.
  2. Use the five named alternatives as candidates. Include Decodo, Oxylabs, Webshare, SOAX and IPRoyal if their current offerings match your requirements. Keep Bright Data in the same test if you want to validate the cost or performance of switching.
  3. Verify current terms. For each candidate, check product availability, billing units, plan size, feature charges, trial eligibility, support and compliance documents directly with the provider.
  4. Run a comparable pilot. Use the same targets, locations, success criteria and representative traffic pattern. Log useful outputs, failures, retries and total cost.
  5. Choose based on measured fit. Weight results according to your priorities: target-site outcomes, location coverage, usable cost, operational effort and procurement fit. Re-test if your targets, volume or product type changes.

Or use ScreenshotNeo for screenshots—not as a proxy replacement

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a proxy provider, and it does not replace Bright Data or the alternatives above. If the separate task is to capture a webpage as an image or PDF, it is an option to try first: one GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Cookie and consent banners are accepted like a visitor and more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

For example, this cURL request captures a webpage. Replace the example URL and set your API key:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. The service also supports Python and Node.js:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

The response is the capture itself. ScreenshotNeo also offers full-page capture with lazy images loaded, selector-based element capture, dark mode, device and viewport controls, retina scale, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agent, authorization, timezone, geolocation, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs, bulk capture and a usage API. Check the documentation for parameter details and response handling.

There is a free allowance of 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is on every plan. If screenshot capture is the task you need to solve, see ScreenshotNeo and sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.

Troubleshooting a provider evaluation

  • A provider’s advertised reach looks sufficient, but your requests fail. Reach is not proof of success on your targets. Test the actual sites and locations, inspect the provider’s current product documentation and compare outcomes using a consistent success definition.
  • The cheapest listed price does not match your expected bill. Check whether the comparison rate is promotional or dated, then normalize plan size and billing unit. Include the costs associated with retries and any required feature charges.
  • A benchmark result seems to contradict your pilot. Check its target, date, methodology and provider set. Target-specific benchmark figures, including those cited by a vendor comparison, should not override results from a representative test of your own workload.
  • A free plan or trial is unavailable to your team. Verify current eligibility and terms directly with the provider. An overview’s description of a free plan does not establish that it covers your required product, volume or use case.
  • Procurement cannot confirm a compliance requirement. Request the relevant documentation from the provider and have it assessed against your organization’s requirements before signing or moving production traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose an alternative based only on a public comparison table?

No. Use a comparison table to form a shortlist, then verify current terms and test the providers against your own targets, locations and success criteria.

Does an advertised country count prove coverage where my team needs it?

No. A reported country count is not the same as tested availability for your required location or successful access to a particular website.
