The BMX SolidSafe Air 5K is exceptionally thin: BMX specifies 6.8mm at its thinnest edge, and Macworld found it was the thinnest 5,000mAh magnetic wireless power bank among the models it tested. That supports a qualified superlative, not proof that it is the thinnest Qi2 power bank on the entire market. At $59.99 on BMX’s U.S. site on August 18, 2026, it makes sense for people who value minimum bulk more than a screen, fast self-recharging, or full-speed charging of two devices.
What the SolidSafe Air is—and who it suits
The BMX SolidSafe Air is a 5,000mAh magnetic power bank with Qi2 wireless charging and one USB-C port. Its standout is its slim profile, not maximum capacity or charging speed. It is aimed at people who want a compact daily top-up attached to a compatible phone, rather than a larger battery for several full charges.

Is it really the thinnest Qi2 power bank?
BMX markets the SolidSafe Air as the world’s thinnest 5,000mAh Qi2 power bank. Macworld’s independent comparison offers a narrower, testable conclusion: at 6.8mm, it was the thinnest 5K magnetic wireless power bank among the products Macworld tested. The comparison is useful, but it cannot establish a universal ranking across every model on sale.

These are the thickness figures reported in Macworld’s comparison; they should not be read as a current survey of every Qi2 bank. The 6.8mm figure also refers to the Air’s thinnest edge, not a uniform thickness across the whole device. The wireless charging coil is raised slightly. Notebookcheck measured approximately 10.3 × 7.0 × 0.8cm including protrusions and observed that the raised pad can make the unit rock a little when set on a flat surface. What the thin design feels like in use
The titanium exterior gives the bank a rigid, brushed-metal look, while the contact side is softer or rubberized, according to hands-on reports. Notebookcheck said the body did not bend when sat on, but that is an informal observation—not a drop test, impact certification, or water-resistance rating. The published weight is unsettled: Notebookcheck lists 110g, while 9to5Mac gives 116g. That six-gram discrepancy is worth noting for a product sold on portability; neither figure should be treated as a resolved retail-unit measurement.

How much charge does 5,000mAh deliver?
The 5,000mAh rating describes the power bank’s cell capacity; it does not guarantee that a phone receives 5,000mAh or a fixed percentage. Conversion losses, wireless-transfer inefficiency, heat, phone use, alignment, and the phone’s own battery-management behavior all affect how much charge reaches the device.
- Macworld reported an 89% recharge result in its iPhone 16 Pro test.
- Notebookcheck reported an 87% increase on an LG G7 with a 3,000mAh battery.
- 9to5Mac described an iPhone 17 Pro reaching roughly 90–95% after starting around 20–30%, with intermittent phone use.
Those results come from different phones and conditions, so they are examples rather than a standardized head-to-head benchmark or a promise for another handset. Treat the Air as a useful top-up pack; do not buy it expecting an identical percentage on every phone.
Charging speed and charging two devices
One device at a time
BMX rates the wireless Qi2 pad for up to 15W and USB-C output for up to 20W. These are maximum ratings, not guaranteed sustained speeds: phone compatibility, temperature, battery level, case thickness, and wireless alignment can reduce charging speed. Two devices at once
The bank supports wired and wireless charging simultaneously, but it cannot supply both standalone maximum ratings at once. Independent tests report different allocations: Notebookcheck reports up to 10W over USB-C and 5W on the Qi2 pad, while Macworld describes a tested scenario of approximately 10W wired plus 12W wireless, or 22W total. The difference is not reconciled by the available reports, so it is safest to expect divided power rather than a particular split. Notebookcheck; Macworld.

The Air accepts up to 15W input over USB-C. Notebookcheck measured 1 hour 57 minutes to recharge it from empty to full, drawing 1.5A at 9V; Macworld estimates around two hours. This is a reasonable overnight or between-outings recharge, but slower than some competing banks that accept 18–30W input. Notebookcheck; Macworld.
What “semi-solid-state” does—and does not—tell you
BMX calls the cell semi-solid-state and says it uses significantly less liquid electrolyte than conventional lithium-ion power banks. The company presents that construction as a way to improve stability and reduce the risk of fire, swelling, and heat buildup. Notebookcheck repeats the reduced-electrolyte explanation, but the cited coverage does not establish an independently measured percentage reduction in fire risk or prove the bank is risk-free. “Semi-solid-state” should not be shortened to “fully solid-state,” and it does not mean the pack is indestructible or safe to misuse. Handle and charge it as a lithium battery, following the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable transport rules.

The magnetic pad is intended for MagSafe-compatible iPhones and Qi2-compatible phones. A device’s ability to attach or charge does not guarantee it will draw 15W; actual performance depends on the phone and conditions. A thick or nonmagnetic case, poor alignment, or metal accessory between phone and pack can interfere with attachment or wireless charging. If the phone does not have suitable magnetic alignment, USB-C remains the fallback. Notebookcheck specifically identifies thick cases as a drawback. Notebookcheck; Macworld.

In Notebookcheck’s hands-on use, attaching a phone or connecting a device by USB-C started charging automatically. A short button press displayed the remaining level on four LEDs; a long press turned the unit off. The review also observed that when adding a second device, connecting the first and pressing the button if needed could trigger detection of the other output, and that the bank shut off after about 15 seconds when not in use. Four status LEDs are simple but imprecise: there is no percentage or wattage readout. If you want to know the remaining charge more exactly, a power bank with a digital display is a better fit. 9to5Mac; Macworld.
If magnetic charging does not work reliably
- Remove the case and any metal accessory between the phone and the bank.
- Confirm that the phone supports Qi2 or MagSafe-style magnetic alignment.
- Center the phone on the charging circle and check whether it attaches securely.
- Try wired USB-C if magnetic alignment remains unreliable.
- If a second device is connected, account for the divided output before judging charging speed.
Travel and handling
At 19.25Wh, the Air is below the commonly cited 100Wh carry-on threshold for spare lithium batteries. Power banks generally belong in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage; airline rules can vary, so confirm the rules for your carrier and route. Being below 100Wh does not override airline-specific restrictions. BMX lists the battery energy as 19.25Wh.
Alternatives: choose by the compromise you can accept
The Air makes most sense when the main requirement is minimum thickness. These alternatives trade some slimness for a display, a built-in cable, lower weight, or more capacity. Prices below are only included where the cited BMX comparison page gave them; current prices can change.

Who should buy it?
- Choose the SolidSafe Air if thinness is your priority, 5,000mAh suits your typical top-up, you have a compatible magnetic phone, and basic battery lights and a roughly two-hour recharge are acceptable.
- Choose the SolidSafe 5K instead if an LCD and a built-in cable matter more than shaving a few millimeters.
- Choose the SolidSafe 10K instead if you need more capacity and stronger wired output for longer days or multiple devices.
- Look beyond the Air if you need a precise percentage display, high simultaneous output, faster self-recharging, a ruggedized or water-resistant design, or reliable wireless attachment through a thick case.
The SolidSafe Air’s case is a narrow but compelling one: among the models Macworld tested, it was the thinnest 5K magnetic wireless bank, and independent phone tests show it can deliver a substantial top-up. Its thinness comes with clear trade-offs—limited capacity, basic status indicators, modest input speed, and divided output when charging two devices. Buy it for minimum bulk, not as a do-everything battery.
