In Playwright, open an isolated browser context, identify the consent control, dismiss it (or remove only a known overlay), wait for the post-consent layout and lazy content, then capture. Use request interception only for specific, documented resources. Stealth mode can reduce automation signals, but it is not a guarantee against bot checks; escalate to an unblocking service only when ordinary browser behavior is insufficient.
What actually blocks a screenshot?
A cookie dialog, newsletter prompt or chat widget is usually an element in the page’s DOM covering the content you want. The browser has loaded the page, but your capture is taken in the wrong state. Solve that state first:
- Predictable banner: click the site’s normal “Reject,” “Accept,” or “Manage preferences” control.
- Unpredictable overlay: use a narrowly scoped Playwright locator handler that removes or closes the known element before the pending action continues.
- Network noise: abort only requests you have a clear reason to suppress, such as a known tracking endpoint. Network blocking and DOM cleanup are separate operations.
- Automation challenge: reduce accidental detection signals, then use a documented stealth option or a managed unblocking service if your authorization permits it.
Capture only after the intended heading, article, product panel or other target is visible and the layout has settled.
A repeatable local Playwright workflow
1. Create an isolated context
A fresh context does not share cookies or cache with another context. Set the viewport and other environment values before navigation. Supply storage state deliberately when a logged-in capture is authorized; otherwise leave it out. Close the context after the job so screenshots and other artifacts flush cleanly.

Prefer semantic locators and site-specific selectors. A role, accessible name or stable test identifier is safer than a broad selector that could remove legitimate content.

3. Handle an overlay that appears unpredictably
Playwright’s locator-handler mechanism can react when a known overlay appears. Handlers can change focus and mouse state, so the action that follows should be self-contained: locate its target again and perform the click without relying on a previous hover or focus.

Routes run before the network stack finishes processing a request. route.abort() fails it, route.fulfill() supplies a response without contacting the network, and route.continue() allows it to proceed. There is no universal cookie-banner URL switch: banners are commonly delivered as ordinary page code.

});Log every aborted URL. If an image, font or script disappears, the log explains why. Blocking a consent provider’s script can leave its overlay in an unfinished state, so test that rule against the site’s normal flow before relying on it.
5. Wait for meaningful, stable content
domcontentloaded only means the initial document has been parsed. Wait for the target content, the post-consent layout and any lazy-loaded region you need. A short, site-specific delay can help animations finish; do not use an arbitrary long sleep as a substitute for a condition.

Complete Playwright example
This script combines isolation, consent handling, a narrow overlay handler, request logging and a verification wait. Replace selectors with ones you have permission to use on the target site.

Stealth is a compatibility feature. Browserless describes its stealth launch parameter as reducing automation detection. It is not a promise that every site will permit automation. A site can still require a human consent choice, authentication, a challenge response or explicit permission.
Reduce accidental signals first
- Use a normal browser context rather than a deliberately strange configuration.
- Keep locale, timezone, viewport and user-agent values consistent with the session.
- Use realistic pacing and wait for real page conditions instead of issuing a burst of clicks.
- Keep each site’s cookies and storage isolated unless an authorized storage state is required.
Browserless exposes stealth, humanlike and blockConsentModals launch parameters. Those settings can reduce friction in a hosted Chromium session, but you still need to verify the resulting page and consent state.

When stealth is not enough
Browserless documents a separate Unblock API for cases where stealth routes alone cannot bypass a site’s defenses. It launches a browser through native remote interfaces, handles common bot-detection blockers and can return rendered HTML, cookies, a full-page JPEG or a live browser endpoint. Use it only for captures you are authorized to make, and expect lower-level browser details to be managed by the provider.

Record conditions so captures can be reproduced
For every artifact, record:
- URL and UTC capture time.
- Browser engine and version.
- Viewport, device scale, locale and timezone.
- Consent action and selector used.
- Blocked-request patterns and the URLs actually aborted.
- Whether stealth, humanlike pacing or an external unblocking service was used.
- Whether an existing storage state, custom headers or cookies supplied authentication.
This record turns a later visual difference into a diagnosable change instead of a guess.

The banner is still visible
Cause: the selector matched a hidden duplicate, the consent flow has multiple steps, or the banner is inside an iframe. Fix: inspect visible role/name values, target the correct frame, click the documented preference sequence and verify the overlay is hidden before capture.
A click fails after a locator handler runs
Cause: the handler changed focus or mouse state. Fix: make the pending action self-contained: reacquire the target, scroll it into view and click it without relying on prior hover or focus.
Content or images are missing
Cause: an over-broad route rule aborted a required script, image or font. Fix: review the aborted-URL log, narrow the pattern and use route.continue() for required resources.
The screenshot is blank or taken too early
Cause: navigation finished before the application rendered its meaningful content. Fix: wait for a target heading, article, row or ready marker; scroll required lazy regions into view and allow a known transition to finish.

The site presents a bot check
Cause: the site’s defenses still detect the session. Fix: use stable context settings and realistic pacing, then enable the provider’s documented stealth option. If that is insufficient, consider an authorized managed unblocking path; do not claim that stealth guarantees access.
Captures differ between runs
Cause: shared cookies, cache, timing, viewport or locale. Fix: start a fresh context, pin environment values, record consent and request rules, and close the context after each capture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remove a banner without clicking its consent button?
Yes, when the overlay is a known, nonessential element and your capture policy allows it. A narrowly scoped locator handler can remove that element, but clicking the site’s consent control is preferable when the choice affects page content or compliance.
Does blocking trackers make a page load faster?
It can reduce work for the specific requests you abort, but the result depends on the site. Treat performance as a side effect, not a guaranteed improvement, and verify that required content still loads.
Should I reuse cookies for every screenshot?
Only when an authorized, consistent session is required. Otherwise use a fresh context so consent, cache and authentication state from one job cannot affect another.
What should I do if a page requires login?
Provide an authorized Playwright storage state or the required headers and cookies, keep those credentials protected, and record that authenticated state was used. Never bypass access controls.
