There is no single best browser for every TV: the right choice depends on the device’s operating system and whether you want to read pages, play ordinary web video, or access a service that may require its official app. For Fire TV, start with Amazon Silk. For Google TV or Android TV, try TV Bro, with BrowseHere as an alternative if it is available for your model. Samsung and LG owners can try their built-in browsers; Roku and VIZIO owners will usually have a better experience casting or mirroring from a phone or computer.

This is a platform-based recommendation, not a lab benchmark. App-store availability can vary by device, operating-system version and region. Before installing anything, check the app store on the device itself.
Fire TV: Amazon Silk
For a Fire TV Stick, Fire TV box or Fire TV television, Silk is the simplest starting point. Amazon describes it as a browser available on Fire TV and documents features including bookmarks, private browsing, web video and remote or Alexa control. You can ask Alexa to open Silk. To find it, open the Fire TV app store and search for Amazon Silk. It is useful for ordinary web pages and some web-hosted video, but a page loading does not guarantee that its video will play. DRM, unsupported formats, pop-ups or a site’s own restrictions can get in the way.

Google TV and Android TV: TV Bro or BrowseHere
Do not assume a Google TV or Android TV device comes with Chrome or any browser preinstalled. Sony says its Google TV and Android TV models do not have a preinstalled browser, though users may be able to install third-party browser apps from Google Play (Sony support). Other manufacturers and devices can differ.
TV Bro: the remote-first choice
TV Bro is built around TV remote use. Its Google Play listing describes tabs, bookmarks, voice search, user-agent switching, two rendering engines, downloads, history and shortcuts. The listing also identifies the project as open source. Check the listing for current availability and details: TV Bro on Google Play.
Try it first if D-pad navigation matters more than desktop-browser features. Still, a remote-friendly design cannot make every website TV-friendly: some pages have tiny controls, pointer-dependent elements or forms that are tedious to fill out from a sofa.

BrowseHere: a feature-rich alternative
TCL’s BrowseHere advertises remote and voice input, bookmarks, history, downloads, zoom, scrolling, cookie blocking and a web-video player. Its listing says it is free with no in-app purchases and describes support for a range of Google TV, Android TV and Fire OS devices. Check the Google Play listing for the current feature and availability information.
Do not treat broad compatibility claims as confirmation for your particular television. TCL’s support documentation notes platform-specific exclusions, including TCL Roku and Fire TV models: TCL’s BrowseHere guidance. Some user reviews report video-source selection, full-screen and slowdown problems; those are user reports, not controlled test results.
Samsung and LG: try the built-in browser first
Samsung Tizen TVs commonly include an Internet browser, and LG webOS TVs commonly include a browser. Look in the app launcher for a label such as Internet or Web Browser; the exact name, location and capabilities vary by model and software version. If it is missing, check the TV’s support information for your exact model rather than assuming a phone browser can be installed.

A built-in browser is convenient for a quick search, article or page that has no TV app. It may be less capable on complex sites, advanced logins, downloads or protected streaming. Older LG documentation describes support for HTML5 and selected video formats, but those documents do not establish what every current model can do (example LG specification).
Roku and VIZIO: use another screen or device
Roku does not offer the same general-purpose browser ecosystem as Fire TV or Google TV. VIZIO platforms are also not a dependable choice for full web browsing. Avoid advice that says to install Chrome on these platforms without confirming that an app actually exists for the exact model.
For a page that must appear on the TV, open it on a phone or computer and use a supported casting or screen-mirroring option. For long articles, shopping, passwords and forms, controlling the page on the phone or computer is often easier than navigating it with a TV remote. If you need regular direct browsing, a separate compatible streaming device may add more browser choices, but it also means another device, input and remote.

Choose by what you want to do
- Read or open an ordinary webpage: Use the platform’s built-in browser or a TV-oriented app. A TV remote is fine for brief browsing, though zoom and voice search can help.
- Watch a web-hosted clip: Try Silk, TV Bro or BrowseHere where available, but treat each site as a separate compatibility case. BrowseHere advertises a built-in video player; user reviews report occasional playback or full-screen issues.
- Watch a subscription service: Use its official TV app when available. Protected streaming often depends on DRM and supported browser features; opening the service’s website does not ensure playback, 4K, HDR, surround sound or reliable subtitles.
- Enter passwords, long URLs or form details: Use a phone or a Bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad if the TV supports it. Remote and voice entry can be slow, and a captcha or pointer-based control may be impractical.
- Show a page to a group: Casting or mirroring from a phone or computer can be easier to navigate than the TV’s browser.
- Download files: Use downloads only when you have a clear need and trust the source. A browser’s download feature is not a reason to install APKs from an unknown site.
Is Chrome the best browser for a TV?
Not by default. A browser familiar from a phone or computer is not necessarily designed for a TV remote. A sideloaded phone browser may lack D-pad focus, put controls off-screen, require a pointer or make text entry awkward. On Google TV and Android TV, try a browser listed for the TV platform before considering a phone-oriented app.
Use an official app store first. Sideloading can introduce risks such as modified or malicious APKs, missing updates, architecture mismatches, poor remote support and crashes after an operating-system update. If you do sideload, use the developer’s official distribution channel where possible and avoid keeping apps that are no longer maintained.

For TV browsing, remote compatibility usually matters more than a browser’s desktop reputation. Look for D-pad focus, usable back and select controls, workable scrolling, voice or keyboard text entry, and video controls that can be operated from the sofa. A Bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad can make passwords and complex pages much easier; it is optional for simple searches.

Private browsing generally affects what the browser saves locally; it does not make you anonymous. TV Bro and BrowseHere display developer-provided data-safety information in Google Play. Such disclosures are useful to consult but are not independent privacy audits and can change. For example, BrowseHere’s data-safety page states the developer’s current disclosure; read the listing for the app and region you will use.
Likewise, BrowseHere advertises cookie and ad-blocking features, but that is not proof that it blocks every ad, tracker, pop-up or malicious redirect. Avoid choosing a browser on the promise of anonymity or guaranteed access to protected video.

If a browser will not load a site
- Confirm the TV or streaming device is connected to the internet.
- Update the browser through its official app store.
- Restart the TV or streaming device.
- Clear the browser cache and, if needed, site data. This may sign you out.
- If the browser offers a user-agent setting, try the site’s mobile or desktop version. This can change page presentation, but it will not bypass DRM, paywalls, regional restrictions or anti-bot checks.
- If a cookie-blocking feature is enabled, turn it off only for a trusted site if the page needs cookies to work.
- Try another browser that is available for the device.
- Use the service’s official app if it has one.
- Open the page on a phone or computer and cast or mirror it when supported.
- If the TV’s platform is the limitation and you browse often, consider a separate compatible streaming device.
