1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe best WordPress social media plugin depends on the job you need done. Use a sharing plugin to add buttons and profile links, a feed plugin to display posts on your site, or an automation plugin to publish, schedule, and recycle WordPress content on social accounts. Choose the category first, then verify network support, account requirements, workflow controls, site licensing, renewals, and API permissions.
Choose the plugin type before choosing a brand
“Social media plugin” covers three different functions. Treating them as direct substitutes leads to poor comparisons.
| Job | What it does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Share and follow | Adds share buttons, follow links, and placement options such as inline, sidebar, popup, fly-in, or media overlays. | Sites that want visitors to distribute articles or find their social profiles. |
| Display feeds | Embeds posts from networks on pages, sidebars, or an aggregate social wall. | Brands that want social proof or a live content stream on the website. |
| Auto-post and schedule | Sends new or updated WordPress content to social accounts, schedules a queue, and may recycle older content. | Publishers and stores that need a repeatable distribution workflow. |
The WordPress.org social-media directory and social-media-automation directory show how broad the category is. Directory listings indicate availability, not comparative quality or tested performance.
Best plugins for share buttons and social profiles
Monarch: flexible placements and follow links
Monarch is a sharing and social-following plugin from Elegant Themes. Its vendor description includes sidebar, inline, fly-in, popup, and media placements, plus appearance customization. The product page advertises “Over 20 Social Networks to Choose From”—a vendor feature claim, not an independent compatibility test. Access is described as part of an Elegant Themes membership; the reviewed pages do not establish a clear standalone price, so check the current membership terms rather than relying on older listicles. A broader overview is available in Elegant Themes’ Monarch documentation.
#1 Best Overall
Novashare: focused sharing with published site tiers
Novashare is a dedicated sharing option for readers who do not need a feed or auto-publishing suite. Its pricing page, accessed September 30, 2026, lists $19.95 per year for one site, $49.95 per year for three sites, and $99.95 per year for unlimited sites. Each listed license includes one year of support and updates; the page says annual renewal is required to continue support and updates. Prices and promotions can change. “Fast” or “lightweight” wording should be treated as the vendor’s positioning, not an independently measured result.
Free directory alternatives
The WordPress.org social directory includes AddToAny, Sassy Social Share, and other button and profile-link plugins. Active-install counts, update dates, and compatibility labels are changing snapshots. Open the directory listing and the plugin’s own details before installing, and check whether it supports your theme, caching setup, and required networks.
Best plugins for displaying social feeds
Smash Balloon: network-specific feeds and a combined wall
Smash Balloon offers separate feed products for Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, and reviews, with Social Wall for combining feeds. The vendor describes theme-matched layouts and caching features. Those are product claims; they are not a standardized speed or reliability test. Confirm the exact network, account type, API connection, feed layout, and plan before purchase. Current package information is on the All Access pricing page.
Rank #2
A feed plugin is appropriate when the website should show existing social content. It does not automatically solve publishing from WordPress to those networks, and a feed may require an ongoing account connection or API permission that changes over time.
Best plugins for auto-posting, scheduling, and recycling
Blog2Social: a free starting point for basic sharing
The Blog2Social WordPress.org listing describes sharing new and updated posts, social-ready metadata, scheduling, and evergreen reposting. The vendor says its free version supports basic sharing to 14 networks; premium tiers add advanced automation. Treat the network count and limits as the vendor’s current description and verify them in the plugin’s plan details before relying on a particular account or platform.
Revive Old Posts: queue controls and evergreen content
Revive Old Posts is aimed at automated distribution and recycling. The vendor describes support for posts, pages, media, WooCommerce products, and custom post types, along with scheduling, message variations, queue management, and content recycling. Check the selected plan for the network and account type you use; a general “social support” label does not prove that every API connection is available.
Other automation listings
The WordPress.org automation directory lists Revive Social, Blog2Social, Buffer and Hootsuite integrations, and newer plugins. Use it to discover candidates, then inspect update history, WordPress compatibility, documentation, account requirements, and the actual workflow. A directory listing is not a performance ranking.

How to select a plugin without discovering a limitation later
- Write the job in one sentence. For example: “Add share buttons to articles,” “show our Instagram feed,” or “send every new post to our company accounts.” If you have two jobs, decide whether one integrated workflow is genuinely useful or whether two focused plugins are safer.
- List exact networks and account types. Record whether you need a Facebook Page rather than a personal profile, an Instagram account with a particular API connection, a YouTube channel, or another specific destination. Vendor feature lists do not guarantee every account type or permission.
- Map the editorial workflow. For automation, check new-post triggers, updated-post behavior, scheduling, queue editing, message variations, image selection, and evergreen recycling. Decide who approves or edits a message before it is published.
- Check feed requirements. For embeds, identify whether you need one network, multiple individual feeds, or an aggregate wall. Confirm the required account connection, API access, layout options, and caching behavior.
- Calculate the license, not just the entry price. Compare the number of sites, annual renewal, support and update duration, premium limits, and refund terms. A free tier can be adequate for a small sharing task but insufficient for automation or multiple sites.
- Review maintenance and compatibility. Check the plugin’s current WordPress compatibility, last update, PHP requirements, documentation, conflict reports, and whether an external service remains part of the integration. Recheck these details before activation and after major platform API changes.
What “automatically add new posts to social media” really requires
Yes, WordPress plugins can automate that workflow, but automation is more than a publish button. The plugin must connect to the correct account, obtain the required API permissions, detect the post event, format a network-appropriate message, and either publish immediately or place the item in a queue. Blog2Social and Revive Old Posts both describe scheduling and recycling features, but their supported networks, account types, and plan limits can differ.

There is no consistent independent performance comparison or complete cross-vendor API and account-type matrix established for these products. Do not select a plugin solely because a vendor calls it fast, because a directory shows many installations, or because a roundup lists it as a winner. Verify the exact integration against your own accounts and the current WordPress and network requirements.
Jotform’s 2026 roundup reports 1,786 social-media plugins in the directory and says it researched and tested 24 options; those figures describe Jotform’s article, not an independent test behind this comparison. See the Jotform 2026 comparison for its methodology and selections.
Quick recommendations
- Need attractive share and follow controls: start with Monarch, or compare Novashare if you want a focused annual license.
- Need social posts embedded on the site: evaluate the relevant Smash Balloon feed product and verify its current API and account requirements.
- Need basic automated sharing at no initial cost: test Blog2Social’s described free tier, then check whether your networks and required controls fit within it.
- Need queues, message variations, and evergreen recycling: compare Blog2Social premium plans with Revive Old Posts against your approval process and content types.
- Need a different network or a free alternative: use the WordPress.org directories as a shortlist, not as proof of quality.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one plugin handle sharing, feeds, and auto-posting?
Some products or combinations can cover more than one function, but the three jobs have different settings and API requirements. Choose by the primary workflow first and add another plugin only when its specific capability is missing.

Are WordPress.org installation counts a reliable quality ranking?
No. Installation counts and compatibility labels are changing directory snapshots. Check update history, documentation, support, account requirements, and your own network connection instead.
Should automatic social publishing be enabled immediately after installation?
Use a controlled test first. Verify the destination account, message, image, link preview, timezone, queue behavior, and expired-connection handling before allowing unattended publishing.
