Start with iRobot’s model-specific compatibility information, then choose a genuine battery whenever reliability, safety and warranty protection matter most. Aftermarket packs can cost less, but their capacity and charging compatibility require much closer checking.
Quick recommendations
- Best overall: A genuine iRobot battery matched by model or SKU.
- Best for warranty and safety: Buy from iRobot or an authorized dealer.
- Best for older 600, 800 and 900 Series: Use the model-specific 3,300-mAh or 1,800-mAh Li-ion pack listed by iRobot.
- Best for selected Combo j models: The official 4,460-mAh Li-ion battery, but only for the models iRobot names.
- Best budget route: A documented aftermarket pack with the correct chemistry, connector, dimensions, warranty and return policy.
A new battery can restore lost runtime. It does not automatically increase suction, brush speed, navigation accuracy or cleaning algorithms.
Identify your exact Roomba before buying
- Read the model name printed on the robot.
- Turn it over and check the model or regulatory label.
- Confirm the name in the iRobot app or original purchase documents.
- Use iRobot’s compatibility chart or official accessories lookup, rather than relying on appearance.
- If necessary, remove the existing battery and compare its label, part number, connector, shape and chemistry.
Searching for “Roomba battery” alone is unsafe: 500-Series NiMH packs, newer Li-ion packs and LFP packs are not interchangeable merely because their voltage or capacity looks similar.
Roomba battery compatibility by family
The following specifications come from iRobot’s current compatibility information. Confirm the exact SKU because model names can contain regional or bundle variations.

Genuine iRobot batteries
iRobot’s U.S. battery page listed these prices when retrieved on August 18, 2026: $99.99 for the e/i/select j Series battery, $109.99 for the 1,800-mAh pack, $119.99 for the s9 battery, $129.99 for the 3,300-mAh pack and $169.99 for the Combo j9+/j7+ and selected j9+ pack. Several listings showed out-of-stock status, so both prices and availability are time-sensitive. Check iRobot’s battery catalog before ordering.
Relevant official references include SKU 4462425, the 3,300-mAh battery, and the 1,800-mAh battery page. Use an authorized dealer if iRobot is out of stock, and verify authorization and return terms.

Aftermarket packs
Aftermarket batteries may be cheaper or easier to find for discontinued robots. One example is Powerextra’s 4,000-mAh, 14.4-volt NiMH pack for various older 500–900 Series models. The manufacturer page does not establish independent runtime, cycle-life or safety testing, so treat it as a budget option—not a proven performance winner.

Reject listings that claim compatibility with almost every Roomba, omit chemistry or voltage, show no connector or label photos, promise implausibly high capacity, or provide no warranty and charging-failure return policy.
Choose by Roomba generation
500 and 700 Series
Many use 3,000-mAh NiMH packs. Check whether your robot requires APS, XLife or another listed variant; physical similarity does not prove electrical compatibility.

600, 800 and 900 Series
Some models use 3,300-mAh Li-ion, while other configurations use different packs. Roomba 960, 980 and 985 are listed with the 3,300-mAh SKU 4462425, but verify your exact model before purchase.
e and i Series
Many use the 1,800-mAh Li-ion battery (SKU 4624864), while specified i4 and i8 configurations use 2,210 mAh (SKU 4706313).
j and Combo j Series
Battery choice varies sharply between ordinary j models and Combo versions. Selected Combo j7+, j8+, j9/j9+, Combo j9+ and Combo 10 Max robots use the 4,460-mAh SKU 4785636. Do not assume a j7 or j7+ uses that pack.

s Series
Use the 3,300-mAh s-Series battery; do not substitute a pack intended for another family.
Essential, 100, 200, Plus and newer families
The Essential battery is a unique wired 2,600-mAh Li-ion design. Roomba 100 and 200 models use 3,000-mAh LFP batteries with different shapes. Plus 400/500 and newer 700-series products may use 5,000- or 6,000-mAh LFP packs. Capacity alone cannot establish interchangeability.

Symptoms that point to the battery
- Runtime has dropped sharply after a full charge.
- The robot stops during cleaning or returns unusually early.
- It powers off soon after leaving the dock.
- Charging takes much longer than normal or the battery will not hold charge.
- The robot repeatedly reports a battery or charging error.
Problems that mimic battery failure
- Hair around extractors, side brushes or drive wheels.
- Clogged airflow paths or a full bin.
- Dirty charging contacts.
- A blocked, poorly positioned or failed Home Base, charger or Clean Base.
- Heavy carpet, pet hair or high-suction workloads.
iRobot notes that clogged robots work harder and exhaust batteries faster. Its maintenance guidance recommends cleaning extractors weekly, or twice weekly in homes with pets: maintenance intervals.

Charging Error 114 and other charging failures
iRobot describes Charging Error 114 as an internal battery error that generally requires replacement, while noting that unknown charging errors can occur with aftermarket batteries. The error does not prove that every charging problem is a defective battery.
- Clean the robot and dock contacts.
- Remove and reseat the battery.
- Verify chemistry, connector, model and SKU.
- If available, reinstall the original battery to isolate the replacement.
- Inspect the charger and Home Base.
- Contact iRobot support with the robot’s serial number and proof of purchase if the problem remains or warranty coverage may apply.
How to replace a Roomba battery safely
- Turn the robot upside down on a stable surface.
- Remove or loosen the edge-sweeping brush screw if your model requires it.
- Remove the bottom-cover screws; the number varies by model.
- Lift off the cover and remove the old battery.
- Install the replacement in the same orientation without forcing it.
- Reinstall and fully tighten the cover screws, ensuring the cover sits flush.
- Place the robot on its Home Base and allow it to charge.
The s9 has an additional battery screw, and Essential models have a sleep/ship-mode procedure. Follow the model-specific instructions at iRobot’s battery replacement guide.
- Never puncture, crush, bend, open, solder or modify a Li-ion battery.
- Do not use a swollen, leaking, hot or visibly damaged pack.
- Never mix NiMH, Li-ion and LFP replacements.
- Recycle the old battery through a qualified battery-recycling channel.
Battery life and maintenance
iRobot says a properly cared-for battery should last at least two to three years; workload, temperature, cleaning frequency, chemistry and storage affect the actual result. Keep the robot on its Home Base or Clean Base, recharge promptly, charge at room temperature away from direct sunlight, and keep brushes, wheels and airflow paths clear.
For storage lasting more than a few weeks, use ship mode where supported. Otherwise remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place; fully charge it at least once every six months. See iRobot’s battery-care guidance.

- Exact Roomba model and regional SKU.
- Battery chemistry: NiMH, Li-ion or LFP.
- Nominal voltage, connector and physical dimensions.
- Official iRobot SKU or a precisely documented replacement reference.
- Seller authenticity and warranty.
- Return coverage for charging failure.
- Current stock and price.
- Safety information and recycling instructions.
Higher mAh can mean more stored energy within a compatible voltage class, but it does not guarantee proportionally longer runtime, faster charging, longer service life or better cleaning. Buy for verified compatibility first; treat capacity and price as later considerations.
