The best true rifle-scope camera is the Triggercam 2.1—provided its eyepiece mount fits your existing optical scope. It records the magnified image and reticle through the scope, supports 4K video, and offers Wi-Fi live viewing for coaching or spotting. For unusually large oculars, consider the Triggercam 2.1+. If you want an entirely new digital day/night optic, choose an ATN X-Sight instead. ShotKam Gen 4 is useful for barrel-direction footage, but it is not a through-the-scope camera.
That distinction matters more than the resolution number on the box. These products belong to three different categories and produce three different kinds of footage.
What counts as a rifle scope camera?

A camera attached behind a conventional riflescope is not interchangeable with a digital scope or a camera mounted beneath the barrel. Before comparing products, decide whether you need the exact image seen through the optic.
Best rifle scope cameras by use case
Best true scope-mounted camera: Triggercam 2.1
The Triggercam 2.1 is the clearest choice for recording through an existing optical riflescope. The manufacturer lists 4K recording at 30 frames per second, 1080p modes up to 120 fps, and 720p modes up to 240 fps. It also advertises Wi-Fi live streaming and control through compatible mobile apps.

Its major limitation is fitment. The product is specified for approximately 32–48 mm eyepieces and requires roughly 37 mm of suitable mounting depth. The official specifications list approximately 453 g of weight, about 100 × 50 × 93.2 mm dimensions, approximately 2.5 hours of recording, and an IP64 rating.
Choose it when: you want to retain a premium glass scope, need the actual reticle and target image, or want a coach or spotter to view the scope image live.
Avoid it when: your ocular has an eyepiece-mounted turret, the mounting surface is too short, or the added rearward weight will interfere with your cheek weld, bolt handle, eye position, or rifle balance.
Best for large scope oculars: Triggercam 2.1+
The Triggercam 2.1+ is intended for larger oculars, with manufacturer guidance around 40–51 mm. Its horizontal side-mounted arrangement can solve some clearance problems that make the standard 2.1 unsuitable.
Do not choose it merely because you own an expensive scope. Measure the actual eyepiece and check whether the side-mounted housing obstructs your face, bolt, throw lever, parallax control, or other rifle controls.
Best integrated day/night recording scope: ATN X-Sight
The ATN X-Sight 5 and X-Sight LTV are digital riflescopes with recording built in. They do not attach to your current glass scope. Instead, they replace it with an electronic optic that combines the display, camera, processor, storage, and recording controls.
ATN’s smart-optics systems advertise day/night operation, digital reticles, ballistic features, and recording. Supported models also offer Recoil Activated Video, which can buffer footage before and after recoil. ATN gives a 30-second-before and 30-second-after example, but timing and behavior vary by model and configuration; check the manual for the specific X-Sight.

Choose ATN when: night vision, digital aiming features, or automatic shot recording matter more than keeping your existing optical scope.

Trade-offs: you must replace the scope, rely on batteries and an electronic display, and accept possible differences in latency, startup time, low-light rendering, and digital-zoom detail. A product described as “4K” should not automatically be compared with a separate camera recording a conventional optical image.
Best barrel-mounted alternative: ShotKam Gen 4
The ShotKam Gen 4 is relevant for shooting video, but it is not a true scope camera in a rifle configuration. ShotKam’s own rifle mounting guide says it records from beneath the barrel and is not intended for scope recording.
It can be a good choice for short-range practice, reviewing barrel direction, and capturing a wider shooting sequence. The product page advertises 4K recording and a calibrated aiming crosshair. Official ShotKam pages cite approximately 12–15 hours of battery life depending on the page and usage description.

Triggercam 2.1: what to check before buying
Fit is the purchase-defining issue
Measure the scope rather than relying on its objective-lens size or model category. Check:
- Outside diameter of the eyepiece at the intended mounting point
- At least the required straight mounting depth
- Eyepiece turrets, fast-focus rings, throw levers, and illumination controls
- Clearance behind the scope for the camera body
- Access to magnification and parallax controls
- Clearance for your brow, helmet, hearing protection, cheek riser, and bolt handle
Triggercam’s compatibility range is guidance, not a guarantee for every scope. If your measurements are near the limit or your scope has an unusual eyepiece shape, confirm the exact model with the manufacturer before ordering.
Recoil and mounting security
Triggercam describes the housing as aircraft-grade aluminum with recoil-resistant construction. Its mounting guide recommends 15 in-lb of torque and warns against overtightening. Follow the current manufacturer instructions; excessive force can damage the scope or mounting hardware.
After installation, fire several rounds and check whether the housing rotates, sags, or changes alignment. A small rotation may be difficult to notice until the reticle appears tilted in the recording.

Video quality is more than “4K”
For scope footage, evaluate whether the recording preserves the full reticle and useful target detail. Also consider:
- Frame rate at the resolution you actually intend to use
- Reticle visibility against bright sky and dark targets
- Exposure changes at dawn, dusk, and in shade
- Camera focus and optical alignment
- Slow-motion modes and storage consumption
- File transfer by Wi-Fi versus a card reader
Triggercam lists a 32 GB microSD card in the package and support for cards up to 128 GB, with a U3-or-better card specified. High-frame-rate footage will consume storage faster than ordinary recording.
Live viewing and coaching
Triggercam advertises Wi-Fi live streaming to compatible Android, iOS, and Huawei devices. That can help an instructor or spotter see the shooter’s sight picture without looking through the optic.

Wireless viewing can add delay, use significant battery power, and depend on phone compatibility and connection conditions. Pair the devices and perform a complete recording test before a range session or hunt. A phone preview is not a substitute for safe range supervision or a reliable spotting scope.
Battery, weight, and weather
The manufacturer’s approximately 2.5-hour recording figure is not the same as standby time. Wi-Fi, preview use, temperature, firmware, and battery condition can reduce runtime. Start with a full charge and test the actual recording mode you will use.
At approximately 453 g, the Triggercam 2.1 is substantial behind a scope. It can shift balance rearward, alter the cheek weld, snag during transport, or make a lightweight hunting rifle less comfortable.
Its IP64 rating means dust protection and resistance to water splashes—not immersion protection or guaranteed performance in prolonged heavy rain. Protect the camera, scope ocular, battery, and connection points accordingly.

These are not simply two price tiers of the same product. Triggercam is an accessory for an existing optic; ATN is a complete digital optic.

Setup and testing checklist
- Measure the eyepiece diameter and available straight mounting depth.
- Check for turrets, rings, throw levers, caps, and rifle-control interference.
- Clean the scope ocular and camera lens.
- Install the correct sleeve or mount.
- Tighten only to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
- Center and level the camera.
- Set camera focus while viewing a distant target; do not confuse camera focus with riflescope focus.
- Record at each magnification you plan to use.
- Fire several rounds and check for movement or image rotation.
- Test live view, file transfer, storage, and battery runtime.
- Recheck mounting security and rifle zero before field use.
Common problems and fixes
The camera does not fit
Re-measure the ocular at the mounting point, verify the required straight depth, and check for an eyepiece turret or control ring. Do not force a sleeve over an incompatible shape. Contact the vendor before ordering if the scope is near the dimensional limit.
The recording is blurry
Check camera focus, alignment with the exit pupil, lens cleanliness, and the scope’s eye-relief position. Adjusting the riflescope focus will not necessarily fix camera focus.
The footage is too dark or overexposed
Bright sky and shaded or dark targets can exceed the camera’s useful exposure range, particularly around dusk. “4K” does not guarantee good low-light footage.

Stop and inspect the mount, alignment, and torque. Do not solve movement by overtightening. Test the setup with live fire before relying on it in the field.
The battery dies too soon
Turn off Wi-Fi when it is not needed, minimize live preview, begin with a full charge, and carry approved backup power if the manufacturer permits it. Advertised standby time is not recording time.
The app will not connect
Check operating-system compatibility, permissions, firmware, battery level, existing Wi-Fi connections, device distance, and competing connections. Complete pairing before the range session.
Hunting and safety considerations
Hunting rules can differ by state, species, season, method, and equipment. Digital night vision, thermal optics, artificial illumination, recording devices, and remote viewing may be regulated differently. Check the current regulations for the exact state, species, season, and equipment before using any camera or digital optic while hunting.

Bottom-line buying advice
Choose Triggercam 2.1 if you want to keep a conventional scope and record through it. Choose Triggercam 2.1+ only after confirming that your larger ocular and side-mounted layout fit. Choose an ATN X-Sight if you want a complete digital day/night optic with advertised automatic recording. Choose ShotKam Gen 4 for barrel-direction and short-range shooting footage—not for the view through a riflescope.
