For most people building a local recording system, the Reolink Video Doorbell PoE is the strongest starting point; choose the Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi if you have doorbell power but cannot run Ethernet. DoorBird’s D1101V is a premium choice when you need an IP intercom and access-control features. Amcrest and Hikvision models may suit specific setups, but verify their current ONVIF status, firmware, availability, and recorder compatibility before buying.
One important qualification: “supports ONVIF” does not guarantee that your NVR will receive the doorbell-button press, motion events, audio, or two-way talk. Check the exact model and firmware in ONVIF’s conformant-products database, then test the features you actually need with your recorder.

What ONVIF does—and does not—mean
ONVIF is an interoperability standard for network video products. Depending on a device’s implementation and declared profile, it can support discovery, video streams, device controls, and events. It is not a promise that every camera function works in every NVR or VMS.
#1 Best Overall
- 2K Super HD Day & Night! Incredible 2K HD, with advanced HDR/3D DNR and distortion correction technologies, brings you sharp and detailed images even in low light conditions.
- 2.4/5GHz WiFi & Waterproof! No worry about network disconnection; its 5GHz WiFi ensures a stable and fluent network experience. No worry about harsh weather as well; it's waterproof!
- 4:3 &180° Wide Viewing Angle! Find the right position for your doorbell with its 15° wedge kit and enjoy the super wide field of view (4:3 aspect ratio). Get more extra surrounding details for better and quicker responses.
- Chime V2 Included! Plug the chime included to any electrical socket at any room and be confidently alerted when visitors "knock". You can choose 1 of its 10 tunes and adjust its volume.
- Answer the Door Faster! With its built-in mic and speaker, you can hear and talk back to the visitors even if you're not at home. You can also preset voice messages or automatic replies for times when you're occupied.
RTSP and ONVIF are related but not interchangeable. RTSP is commonly used to retrieve a video stream. ONVIF can provide a broader interface, but the available functions vary by implementation. A recorder might show video yet miss the physical doorbell press, person-detection metadata, motion zones, microphone audio, or speaker controls.
Look up the exact product in the ONVIF conformance database, rather than relying only on a logo or broad manufacturer claim. ONVIF says conformance applies to the listed model and registered firmware/software version; it does not automatically cover every later update or all products in a model family. See its conformance FAQ.
Also check the profile and declared capabilities. Profile S is associated mainly with basic video streaming and device interaction; Profile T covers more advanced video streaming capabilities. Neither profile, by itself, guarantees doorbell events or two-way audio in your recorder. ONVIF has announced a planned end to Profile S support and recommends Profile T as its replacement, making it sensible to check the current profile and long-term product support rather than treating “ONVIF” as a permanent feature checklist.
Best overall: Reolink Video Doorbell PoE
The Reolink Video Doorbell PoE is the clearest recommendation for a new installation or an entrance with an existing Ethernet run. Reolink lists ONVIF and RTSP support, a 5 MP image, two-way audio, person and motion detection, pre-motion recording, IP65 weather resistance, and microSD support up to 256 GB. Its product and support material also describe local recording options including 24/7, motion, and scheduled modes. Consult the manufacturer’s support specifications for the exact variant.
PoE carries network data and power over one Ethernet cable, which can simplify installation and is generally better suited than Wi-Fi to steady, continuous recording. You will need an appropriate PoE source, such as a compatible switch, injector, or NVR. The camera can also be powered by 12–24 V AC or 24 V DC according to the product listing, but Ethernet remains the network connection.

- 【Complete Flexibility - Wired and Wireless】The Tapo D225 offers users complete flexibility to mount the doorbell as they need. If hardwired (8-24V), users can take advantage of existing doorbell wiring to install. Hardwiring provides a unique option for 24/7 continuous recording for comprehensive monitoring. The doorbell camera also has a built in 10,000mAh battery allowing for flexible installation wherever needed for up to 8 months of battery life between charges.
- 【Incredible 2K QHD Live View】View with incredible clarity monitoring in fine detail. Easily identify faces even when zoomed in, showing you everything you need to see outside your door. 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi required; does not support 5 GHz.
- 【180° Head-to-Toe Field of View】Say goodbye to blind spots. See the full picture with a 180° ultra-wide head-to-toe field of view. The ideal front door camera ensures you capture every detail from top to bottom, providing complete coverage.
- 【Ring Call – Never Miss a Visitor】Receive a phone call to answer your door without opening up the Tapo app. Quickly answer visitors with once-click convenience. Stay connected, stay informed, and never miss a visitor again. (Calls are generated via app and will not use cellular minutes)
- 【Free Person/Package/Vehicle Detection】This smart doorbell is equipped with advanced AI technology that detects any person, package or vehicle approaching your property. It sends real-time notifications directly to your device indicating person/vehicle/package detection, with the ability to select one, all, or no detection notifications.
This is a video doorbell, not a full access-control intercom. Do not assume an NVR will receive its button press, person-detection events, or two-way audio just because it can discover the camera or display video. Confirm those features separately with your recorder. Reolink lists a 180-degree diagonal field of view, with horizontal and vertical values varying by color or orientation variant; check the exact product version and plan the mounting angle. It is a 5 MP camera, not a 4K model.
Choose it if: you can run Ethernet or already have PoE and want a wired camera for local recording. Look elsewhere if: you need integrated electric-strike control, cannot run network cable, or require a guaranteed third-party doorbell-button event.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBest retrofit: Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi
The Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi keeps much of the wired model’s local-recording appeal without requiring Ethernet at the door. Reolink lists 5 MP video, dual-band Wi-Fi, ONVIF and RTSP, two-way audio, person and motion detection, pre-motion recording, microSD support up to 256 GB, and IP65 weather resistance. It requires wired power: the published range is 12–24 V AC or 24 V DC. It is not a battery doorbell.
That makes it a practical retrofit if suitable doorbell wiring is already in place. Before installation, check the transformer’s voltage and capacity, and whether your existing mechanical chime needs a compatible chime, bypass, or other change. Consult the product instructions for your exact installation.
Wi-Fi changes the network trade-off, not the need for reliable power. Weak signal, interference, or a congested channel can interrupt an RTSP recording even if the camera still appears in its app. A suitably placed access point and a local test of continuous recording can tell you more than the camera’s advertised Wi-Fi bands alone. For product details, see Reolink’s Wi-Fi model specification sheet.

- 2K Super HD & 4:3 Aspect Ratio: Enjoy the super wide field of view of 135° (H) x 100° (V) x 180° (D). Find the right position for your doorbell with its 15° wedge kit. Incredible 2K HD, along with advanced HDR, 3D DNR, and distortion correction technologies, provides sharp and detailed images even in low light conditions.
- Chime V2 Included & Answer the Door Faster: Plug the chime included into any electrical socket in any room and be confidently alerted when visitors "knock". You can choose 1 of its 10 tunes and adjust its volume. You can also preset voice messages or automatic replies for times when you're occupied. Chime Compatibility: Reolink Chime-V2.
- Easy & Reliable PoE Setup: Finish the installation in minutes with a Power over Ethernet design (power supply NOT included) also with unmatched stability - data transfers with no reliance on spotty signal but with a wired connection. An internet break won't stop it from 24/7 recording. Please note that a third-party NVR is NOT supported. Supports 12-24V AC 50/60Hz, 24V DC power, IEEE802.3af PoE switch/injector, or Reolink PoE NVRs. Additionally, WiFi is NOT supported.
- Flexible Storage Options & Versatile Software: Reolink software provides lifetime service that requires NO monthly fee. It supports pre-roll recording, which provides valuable 6s footage from before an event is triggered. Recordings can be stored on a microSD card (Max. 512GB, not included), Reolink NVR for built-in 2TB/4TB HDD local storage, or FTP/NAS.
- Accurate Alerts by Humanoid Detection: You can set it to alert you when a human is detected, ignoring trivial non-human passers-by, and you can set the motion zone to decide where objects’ movements will be detected.
Alternatives, with qualifications
Amcrest AD410: a plausible Wi-Fi alternative
The AD410 is a 4 MP dual-band Wi-Fi doorbell that may appeal if you already use Amcrest cameras or software. However, the available official information for this guide does not establish its current ONVIF conformance entry, exact profile, firmware behavior, or complete third-party audio and event support. The manufacturer’s store listing showed a price of $154.99 and marked it out of stock when checked for the research behind this guide; both price and availability may have changed.
Treat it as a candidate, not a verified default. Before buying, check the exact model in ONVIF’s database, confirm the shipped firmware and RTSP details, and ask whether your recorder can receive the specific events and audio you need. See Amcrest’s doorbell listings.
Amcrest AD110: lower-resolution budget candidate
The AD110 is a 1080p-class, 2.4 GHz model with two-way audio, a 140-degree wide-angle view, and an IP55 rating in Amcrest’s category listing. Its listing showed $104.99 and out of stock when checked for this guide. Its lower resolution, 2.4 GHz-only networking, uncertain availability, and unverified current ONVIF behavior make it a conditional choice rather than a firm budget recommendation. Check the exact listing and test the current firmware with your recorder before relying on it.
DoorBird D1101V: best premium intercom and access-control direction
The DoorBird D1101V is better understood as an IP video intercom than as a value-focused NVR camera. DoorBird lists LAN and Wi-Fi, PoE capability, two-way audio, 1080p video, night vision, a 4D motion sensor, and a configurable relay for a door or gate. One listed configuration was approximately $1,031.73 USD when checked; regional pricing, finishes, installation, and additional indoor stations can materially change total cost.
Consider it when you need intercom, SIP or building-automation possibilities, or access-control hardware. Its price is difficult to justify for ordinary local video recording alone, and the precise ONVIF profile and third-party NVR feature set for the exact D1101V firmware should be verified before purchase.

Hikvision DS-HD1: specialist option only after verification
Hikvision’s U.S. flyer for the DS-HD1 lists a 3 MP starlight sensor, up to 2,048 × 1,536 resolution, adaptive frame rate up to 30 fps, 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, 16–24 V AC power, microSD up to 128 GB, PIR detection, two-way audio, IP65 protection, and a 105-degree horizontal by 180-degree vertical field of view. Those are hardware claims, not proof of ONVIF conformance or compatibility with your recorder. Check the exact model and firmware in the ONVIF database, and separately assess current regional availability and support. See the U.S. product flyer.
Choose by the job, not the word “ONVIF”
- Need a stable stream for continuous recording? Prefer PoE if you can run Ethernet. The Reolink PoE is the leading fit in this shortlist; confirm the recorder’s codec and recording behavior.
- Have doorbell wiring but no Ethernet path? Consider the Reolink WiFi model, provided Wi-Fi is reliable at the entry and the transformer meets the requirements.
- Need the physical button to trigger an automation? Test that precise event path. It may require a vendor integration, separate smart button, relay, or contact sensor.
- Need two-way talk through an NVR? Verify it with the exact camera, firmware, recorder model, and software version. Two-way talk in a manufacturer app does not prove ONVIF talk support.
- Need package visibility? Compare vertical framing, mounting height, lens angle, and close-range view. Megapixels alone do not show whether the camera sees packages at the doorstep.
- Need a gate or electric-strike relay? DoorBird is the intercom-oriented option here; account for compatible hardware, wiring, and installation.
- Want battery operation? Treat battery models as a separate category. They may sleep between events and may not offer an always-available ONVIF stream or reliable 24/7 recording.
For wired models, verify the transformer voltage and capacity, AC/DC requirements, chime behavior, and any included or optional chime hardware. For PoE, identify whether the camera is powered by the PoE equipment you have; do not assume an injector or switch is included.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery doorbells and hub dependence
Battery-powered doorbells are a poor default for continuous ONVIF recording: sleep behavior and battery life can conflict with an always-on recorder. Reolink’s compatibility table says battery-powered models, including its battery doorbell, require a compatible Reolink Home Hub for certain CGI, RTSP, or ONVIF functions. That is not equivalent to a wired camera that can stream continuously on its own. Before choosing a hub-dependent model, confirm which device the recorder sees, whether continuous recording is supported, and how recording affects battery life.
How to verify compatibility before buying
- Write down the exact model number, region, hardware revision, and firmware version—not just the product family name.
- Search the exact model in ONVIF’s official database. Note the listed profile and registered firmware/software version.
- Check the camera maker’s current ONVIF/RTSP documentation and compare it with the firmware actually shipping or installed.
- Confirm your NVR/VMS supports the relevant profile, codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio path. If the vendor has a compatibility list, check it.
- Confirm power, network, storage, and chime needs: PoE source or transformer, microSD, Wi-Fi coverage, and any hub or indoor station.
- Test the return window rather than assuming that successful discovery means full integration. Verify the exact events and controls you need.
Setup and troubleshooting
Start on a trusted local network. Change the default password, record the current firmware version, and use a DHCP reservation or static address. Enable ONVIF or RTSP only as required by the camera and create a separate ONVIF user if supported. Test local video before adding the device to your NVR.
Recommended Free Tools
In the recorder, use its camera-add screen to discover the device or add it manually by local IP. Enter the appropriate account credentials, choose the available media profile, and confirm live video, recording, playback, audio, motion events, and the physical button separately. Reboot the camera and recorder, then repeat the checks. Record what works before applying firmware updates, as updates can affect discovery, authentication, stream URLs, codecs, or events.

To ensure robust data security, Tapo implements AES 128-bit encryption and TLS 1.2 encryption protocols. (𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱: 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟭𝟬, 𝗨𝗛𝟭, 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗗 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿)
If discovery fails, confirm that the camera and recorder can reach each other across their VLANs or routed network; multicast discovery may be blocked. Try manual addition by IP, check that ONVIF is enabled and credentials are correct, and confirm that the recorder supports the declared profile. Test RTSP separately. Review firewall rules and reboot before considering a reset; document settings first.
If video works but events do not, the limitation may be interoperability rather than a defective camera. Check native ONVIF events, the manufacturer’s integration, or whether the recorder can detect motion from the stream itself. For button-triggered automations, a separate smart button, contact sensor, relay, or Home Assistant integration may be more dependable than expecting a generic NVR to interpret a proprietary event.
Do not expose RTSP or ONVIF directly to the public Internet. Use a VPN or secure remote-access gateway if you need off-site access, and limit camera network access to what the installation requires.

If your top priority is dependable ONVIF video plus reliable button-triggered automation, an all-in-one doorbell may force a compromise. A conventional ONVIF camera aimed at the entrance can provide the stream, while a separate wired or smart button supplies the event. This can make each part easier to replace or integrate, though it adds hardware, installation effort, and potentially a less polished visitor experience. It is a sensible architecture when button events matter more than having one device do everything.
Finally, judge the installation as well as the camera: direct sun, backlighting, rain on the lens, condensation, snow, salt air, insects, and IR reflections can affect usable footage. Published IP ratings describe a product classification, not immunity from every mounting or weather problem.
