Best overall: the HUANUO HNSS6 is the strongest single-monitor choice under $50 when you want smoother height adjustment and straightforward installation. PCWorld’s hands-on testing found that its gas spring handled a monitor up to 32 inches and 20 pounds, while offering a more refined experience than the cheapest friction-joint arms. Its cable covers are limited, however.

For a lower-cost option with broad stated specifications, choose the VIVO STAND-V001. For two lighter monitors, consider the VIVO STAND-V002 or Mount-It! MI-2752L. Prices and availability below are U.S. snapshots observed around August 16, 2026, and may change.

HUANUO HNSS6: best overall single-monitor arm under $50

The HNSS6 is the best starting point for most people with one conventional monitor. PCWorld selected it as its best single-monitor arm under $50 and reported easy installation, support for a 32-inch display weighing up to 20 pounds, and smoother movement than the least expensive arms that rely mainly on clips and screws.

ErGear Single Monitor Arm, Fully Adjustable Monitor Mount for 13–34 Inch Screens, Fast Install Computer Monitor Stand with Tool-Free VESA Mount, Cable Management, Holds 19.8 lbs
  • Ultrawide Compatibility: The ErGear heavy-duty monitor arm is compatible with most 13″–34″ flat or curved monitors up to 19.8 lbs with VESA mounting patterns 75x75mm or 100x100mm. Please verify the screen size, weight, and VESA pattern of your monitor before purchase.
  • Engineered for Lasting Performance: This adjustable monitor arm features a 40% wider VESA head and a tighter-fitting VESA panel to enhance stability and keep your monitor firmly in place. The high-performance durable core has been tested through 20,000+ cycles, delivering smooth, effortless adjustments and dependable performance for years of daily use.
  • Full Motion Flexibility: This premium VESA monitor mount delivers precise height adjustment up to 17.5″ and reach up to 18.1″, helping you achieve the perfect eye-level position to reduce neck and shoulder strain. It features +80°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel, and 360° rotation, so you can always find your ideal viewing angle.
  • Streamlined Finish with Cable Management: The upgraded cable clips open easily with no tools required, making cable organization faster and more convenient. This monitor arm lifts your screen to free up desk space while keeping cables tidy, helping you stay focused and productive in a clean, clutter-free workspace.
  • Quick Setup with Tool-Free VESA Mounting: Set up in just three easy steps! Our computer monitor mount upgraded VESA plate enables tool-free mounting, saving time and avoiding complex installation. We offer two desk mounting options: C-clamp mounting for desks 0.39″–2.56″ thick, or grommet base mounting for desks 0.39″–2.95″ thick.

Its gas spring makes height changes easier, particularly if you frequently alternate between sitting and standing or move the display for gaming, presentations, or shared work. The arm also supports the basic adjustments buyers usually want: height, tilt, swivel, and rotation, including portrait orientation when the monitor and surrounding space allow it.

The compromise is refinement. PCWorld found the plastic cable covers too small for a heavily wired setup, and gas springs can lose potency over time. Do not interpret the 20-pound figure as a promise that every 32-inch monitor will remain stable at full extension. Weight distribution, screen depth, arm reach, and desk rigidity still matter.

Buy it if: you want the easiest adjustment experience among the budget candidates and have one reasonably light monitor. Skip it if: cable management is a priority or your display is close to the stated limits.

VIVO STAND-V001: best broad-specification value

The STAND-V001 is the most appealing alternative when price and clearly stated compatibility matter more than a floating gas-spring feel. VIVO lists support for 75×75-mm and 100×100-mm VESA patterns, a 22-pound capacity, a maximum desk thickness of 3.25 inches, and standard monitors up to 32 inches or ultrawides up to 38 inches. The black model was listed at $34.99 and the white model at $39.99 when observed.

It offers monitor rotation, so portrait mode is possible on a compatible display. Before buying, treat VIVO’s size and weight figures as compatibility claims rather than a guarantee of perfect stability at every arm position. A wide ultrawide creates more leverage than a smaller screen even when both are below the nominal weight limit.

Buy it if: your monitor is VESA-compatible, your desk is within the 3.25-inch clamp limit, and you want a low-cost single arm with broad published specifications. Skip it if: you need effortless one-handed repositioning or have a fragile desk.

Mount-It! MI-2751: basic single-monitor full motion

The MI-2751 is a straightforward alternative for a standard 17- to 32-inch monitor. Mount-It! lists a 19-pound capacity and a price of $37.99 on its monitor-mount pages. It is a sensible choice when the screen will mostly stay in one position and you do not need the smoother behavior associated with a gas spring.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Budget friction-style designs can require more manual tightening or tool-assisted adjustment. That is not a defect if you are performing a one-time setup, but it becomes inconvenient when several people share the desk or when the monitor moves between sitting and standing positions.

  • 80% Sturdier Than Others: At HUANUO, we focus on improving the strength and stability of our single monitor stand. The single desk monitor mount uses automotive-grade components and has undergone 20,000 motion tests, which means it can be used continuously for more than 5 years without issue.

Step 1: Affix the bracket to your table; Step 2: Attach your monitor to the VESA plate; Step 3: Adjust tension according to your monitor weight.
  • Two mounting options : You may choose to use either a C-clamp or grommet mount. For best results, make sure your table meets the following criteria: wood tabletop is recommended; the underside of the tabletop should ideally be free of any beams or panels that may interfere with the installation; the tabletop thickness and grommet mounting can support 0.59"-3.54”.

Buy it if: you want a basic, sub-$40 single arm and your monitor is comfortably below 19 pounds. Skip it if: frequent repositioning is central to your setup.

VIVO STAND-V002: lowest-cost dual-monitor route

The STAND-V002 is aimed at buyers who want two screens while spending as little as possible. VIVO listed the model from $34.99. That price is attractive for two light, similarly sized monitors that will remain side by side.

Do not judge it only by the number of screens it supports. A budget dual arm can be less forgiving when the monitors differ in size or weight, one screen must be vertical, or both displays need frequent independent height and depth adjustments. Verify the exact model’s capacity and screen-size specifications before checkout.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy it if: you have two relatively light 24- or 27-inch monitors and a rigid desk. Choose two singles instead if: the screens are mismatched or need independent positioning.

Mount-It! MI-2752L and MI-2752: dual-monitor alternatives

Mount-It! lists both models at $46.99. The MI-2752L is listed for 17- to 32-inch monitors at 22 pounds per monitor, while the MI-2752 is listed at 19 pounds per monitor. Those capacities are per monitor, not a single combined capacity, but they should still be treated as manufacturer specifications rather than proof of wobble-free operation.

The MI-2752L is the better choice on paper when the displays are heavier. The MI-2752 makes more sense for two lighter screens. Both are budget solutions: expect less refinement than a premium dual mount, especially when the arms are extended or the monitors are moved independently.

VIVO STAND-V011: extra height for tall or standing desks

The STAND-V011 uses an extra-tall pole and was listed from $43.99. It is worth considering when ordinary arms do not provide enough vertical range, including some standing-desk and desk-converter setups.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Extra height is not the same as extra load capacity. Confirm the exact model’s weight range, check that the desk can resist the clamp force, and leave enough cable slack for the full height adjustment.

North Bayou F160: a qualified gas-spring alternative

Secondary comparison coverage from Home Office Nation places the North Bayou F160 at about $45, with smooth height adjustment but a lower stated capacity of about 14.3 pounds and a 27-inch limit in that comparison. Because the current direct-vendor price and product page were not verified here, treat it as an alternative to investigate rather than a primary recommendation.

How to choose a monitor arm under $50

1. Confirm VESA compatibility

Most conventional monitors use either a 75×75-mm or 100×100-mm VESA hole pattern. Check the rear panel or the monitor manual. Measure between the mounting holes if the specification is unclear.

Also inspect the mounting area. Recessed VESA holes may require spacers or longer screws. Use only hardware compatible with the monitor and arm manuals; a screw that is too long can bottom out inside the display and cause damage.

A monitor without standard VESA holes needs a separate adapter. Include that adapter in the total budget, because it can push a nominally $40 arm beyond $50.

2. Use the monitor’s mounted weight, not shipping weight

Remove the original stand and find the display-only weight in the monitor’s specifications. Do not use shipping weight or the weight of the monitor plus its stand.

A practical rule is to keep the monitor at roughly 70–80% or less of the arm’s stated capacity. A display near the limit may work, but it leaves less margin for leverage, extension, and imperfect adjustment. Large curved monitors and ultrawides deserve extra caution: diagonal size, depth, and center of gravity all affect the load on the arm.

Screen-size limits and weight limits are not interchangeable. A manufacturer may list support for a 38-inch ultrawide, but that does not mean every 38-inch model will hold position when extended far from the pole.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Choose clamp or grommet mounting deliberately

A clamp is usually best for renters, temporary setups, and desks without a hole. It requires a clear rear edge, access to the underside, and a surface strong enough to withstand concentrated pressure.

  • Two Ways to Install: We offer two desk mounting options: C-clamp mounting for desks 0.39″–2.76″ thick, or grommet base mounting for desks 0.39″–2.76″ thick. With straightforward instructions, you can set up your monitor arm effortlessly, making it a hassle-free addition to your desk. We only recommend installing it on a wooden desk, preferably with no crossbeam blocking the underside.

A grommet mount passes through an existing cable hole or a hole drilled through the desk. It can be useful when the desk is against a wall or when a through-desk attachment better suits the furniture. Do not assume a clamp-only arm can be converted to a grommet mount; check the exact manual.

4. Inspect the desk before installing

  • Glass: Do not clamp an arm to glass unless the desk manufacturer explicitly approves it. Clamping pressure can crack or shatter the surface.
  • Hollow-core desktops: A clamp can crush or deform the top. A reinforcement plate helps only when the underlying structure can accept the load.
  • Particleboard or veneer: Use a broad, compatible pressure plate and avoid over-tightening. A thin or damaged surface may still fail.
  • Very thick desks: Confirm the arm’s maximum clamp thickness. The STAND-V001, for example, is listed for desks up to 3.25 inches thick.
  • Wall-hugging desks: Check whether the clamp can reach the underside without moving the desk.
  • Standing desks: Make sure cables have enough slack across the entire height range and that the desktop does not wobble independently of the arm.

5. Decide whether gas-spring movement matters

Gas-spring arms generally provide easier one-handed height adjustment and a more floating feel. They are most useful when you reposition the monitor regularly. They must be tension-adjusted for the actual monitor weight, and inexpensive gas cylinders can lose tension over time.

Friction or mechanical-joint arms are often cheaper and can be perfectly adequate for a monitor that stays put. Their trade-off is more manual tightening, more tool-assisted adjustment, and a greater chance that a cheap joint will sag or drift.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Be realistic about dual-monitor arms

A dual arm under $50 can be a good value for two light, similarly sized screens that remain side by side. It is a riskier purchase when the monitors differ substantially or must be adjusted independently.

Evaluate the central pole, clamp footprint, arm reach, independent height adjustment, and likely wobble—not just the advertised number of monitors and pounds. Two single arms cost more and use more desk space, but they usually provide better control over mismatched displays, portrait orientation, and frequent repositioning.

7. Check cable routing and rotation clearance

Budget cable channels may not hold power, video, USB, webcam, microphone, and lighting cables together. Leave a loose service loop and move the monitor through its full height, swivel, and rotation range before securing the cables tightly.

An arm can advertise rotation while portrait mode remains impractical because of bezel clearance, a wall or hutch, short cables, or a VESA plate that must be loosened before rotating. Test the physical space, not just the feature list.

What $50 monitor arms do—and do not—improve

An arm removes the factory stand’s footprint, freeing space for a keyboard, notebook, speakers, or other desk equipment. It can also move a screen closer, farther away, higher, lower, or sideways, and can make portrait orientation possible. That flexibility is especially valuable on small desks and when a desk converter or standing desk changes the working height.

  • Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
  • Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.

These are positioning benefits, not automatic health fixes. An arm does not by itself correct posture or prevent pain. The monitor still needs sensible height and distance, the desk must remain stable, and the user’s habits matter.

Installation and troubleshooting

The monitor sags

  1. Support or remove the monitor before adjusting anything.
  2. Increase the tension screw in small increments according to the manual.
  3. Recheck the position after each adjustment.
  4. Reduce extension depth if possible.
  5. If the arm cannot hold the display within its stated range, replace it rather than continuing to tighten.

Sag can result from low tension, excessive reach, an unfavorable center of gravity, or a monitor that is too heavy in practical use even if its weight appears acceptable.

The desk shakes

Thin desktops, lightweight frames, clamps positioned far from a supporting leg, long arm extension, and independently moving dual monitors can all amplify movement. Move the clamp closer to a reinforced area, use a suitable reinforcement plate, reduce extension, or choose a shorter-reach or pole-style design. If one dual clamp flexes, two single arms may distribute the problem better.

The clamp damages the desk

Do not fix dents or crushing by tightening harder. Stop, inspect the desktop, and use only a broad pressure plate or manufacturer-approved pad that suits the surface. Reject a mounting position that cannot withstand concentrated force.

The arm cannot reach the desired position

Check pole height, arm extension, desk depth, the monitor’s VESA-hole location, and clearance behind the desk. A large or heavy display may need more reach than the arm can provide, particularly when a wall or hutch blocks rearward movement.

The VESA plate will not fit

Recessed holes may need the supplied spacers or correctly sized longer screws. Never substitute arbitrary screws or force the plate against the housing. Follow both manuals.

When to spend more

Under-$50 arms can clear desk space effectively, but the cheapest models often use more plastic, lack dynamic tension adjustment, require tools, or become less stable over time. If you frequently reposition a heavy display, need better cable management, or want more predictable adjustment, raising the budget may be worthwhile.

PCWorld places the MSI MAG MT201 above the strict budget most of the time, with a $99.99 MSRP and observed sale pricing around $60–$80, and describes it as a meaningful quality step above many $25–$50 arms. It is therefore a sale-watch or budget-stretch option, not an under-$50 pick. The Vari single-monitor arm specification sheet is another documented upgrade reference, listing 75×75/100×100 VESA support and a 19.8-pound capacity, but no reliable under-$50 purchase price was established here.

Bottom line

Choose the HUANUO HNSS6 for the best evidence-backed single-monitor experience under $50. Choose the VIVO STAND-V001 if its published 22-pound capacity, VESA support, and desk-thickness limit fit your setup and you want a lower price. For two light, similarly sized monitors, the VIVO STAND-V002 is the cheapest route, while the Mount-It! MI-2752L offers the higher listed per-monitor capacity. In every case, verify the VESA pattern, display-only weight, desk construction, clamp clearance, and cable range before ordering.
