For a straightforward full-page image or PDF, start with GoFullPage. Choose FullPage Capture when nested scroll areas and annotations matter, GetFullPage when you need several capture modes for complex pages, or Awesome Screenshot when its broader capture and recording workflow fits your browser. These are feature-based recommendations from the vendors’ current listings, not the results of a like-for-like reliability test.
“Scrolling screenshot,” “full-page screenshot,” and “long screenshot” all describe capturing content below the visible viewport. The best extension depends on your browser, page structure, output format, and privacy requirements.

How to choose an extension
1. Match the browser first
Install only from the store or site that supports your browser edition. GoFullPage has Chrome and Firefox listings, while its official site reports Edge and Firefox availability. FullPage Capture explicitly limits itself to Chrome and Edge. Awesome Screenshot documents Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other Chrome-extension-compatible browsers. Listings and permissions can change, so check the current page immediately before installation.

2. Identify the page’s scroll model
A normal article that scrolls in the main window is the easiest case. Web apps may put content inside an inner panel, use sticky navigation, load images only when they approach the viewport, or append items as you scroll. FullPage Capture and GetFullPage advertise support for some of these cases, but no independent benchmark establishes how reliably they handle every site.
3. Decide what you need after capture
- Image only: GoFullPage is the most direct workflow.
- PDF: GoFullPage and FullPage Capture advertise PDF export; confirm page-break behavior for your document.
- Annotations: FullPage Capture lists a built-in annotation editor.
- One element or one panel: GetFullPage lists region and scrollable-element modes.
- Editing, recording or sharing: Awesome Screenshot may be a better fit if you need its wider toolset; verify which functions are free or paid.
4. Consider privacy and permissions
A screenshot extension can read the pages where it runs. Review the current permissions, privacy policy and whether captures are uploaded for editing or sharing. FullPage Capture’s listing makes the vendor statement “No account, no analytics, no network requests.” That is an attributed product claim, not an independent privacy audit. Avoid capturing passwords, private customer records or confidential dashboards unless your organization has approved the tool.
Best extension by use case
Best simple whole-page capture: GoFullPage
GoFullPage is the clearest starting point when you want to capture a regular webpage and download an image or PDF without a complicated workflow. Its Chrome listing describes the extension and links to its open-source project. The Firefox listing says very large captures may be split into multiple images. The Chrome change log includes version 8.7 dated August 11, 2026, and an earlier January 14, 2026 update addressing scrollbar and capture improvements for LLM chat interfaces. Those version details are snapshots of the listings; install the current release shown for your browser.
Use it for documentation, receipts, articles and landing pages whose content scrolls in the main window. If a site has several independently scrolling panels, test a short capture first rather than assuming a perfect stitch.

FullPage Capture’s Chrome listing describes stitching the page, capturing iframes and inner scroll areas, and annotating the result. It advertises PNG, JPEG and PDF export. Its site says it supports Chrome and Edge and has no Firefox or Safari version. The combination is useful for bug reports or design reviews where you need to mark a long page immediately after capturing it.

Its privacy wording should be read precisely: the listing claims “No account, no analytics, no network requests.” Check the current listing and permissions yourself, especially if your browser is managed by an employer.
Best for multiple modes and difficult layouts: GetFullPage
GetFullPage lists four modes: full page, visible area, region and scrollable element. It also advertises support for tall pages, sticky headers, nested scrolling containers, lazy-loaded content, dynamic layouts and infinite-scroll pages with safety limits. Those are developer claims, not independently verified performance results. The extra modes are valuable when a full-page capture is not what you actually need—for example, when only a chat panel or a specific table should be captured.
Best when screenshots are part of a larger workflow: Awesome Screenshot
Awesome Screenshot documents full-page capture for its Chrome extension, Edge addon/extension, other browsers that support Chrome extensions and its Firefox extension. Consider it when you also need the product’s editing, recording or sharing functions. Because plan boundaries and browser packaging can change, check the current help article and account plan before standardizing it for a team.
Reliable scrolling-capture workflow
- Prepare the page. Open the final URL, sign in if required, dismiss transient dialogs, and wait for the page’s visible content to settle.
- Check the scroll container. Scroll the main window and then any panels. Note whether the content is an iframe, a fixed-height div or an infinite list.
- Choose the capture mode. Use full-page for a normal document; use region or scrollable-element mode when you need one panel or component.
- Control lazy loading. Slowly scroll through the page once so images and cards load. Infinite-scroll pages may keep adding content, so set a practical stopping point.
- Handle sticky elements. If a header repeats on every stitched segment, try the extension’s element or region mode, hide the header with a site setting when possible, or crop the final image.
- Review the result at 100%. Look for duplicated bands, missing sections, clipped iframes, blank lazy-loaded images and text rendered over the wrong scroll position.
- Export deliberately. PNG preserves sharp text, JPEG is smaller for photographic pages, and PDF is convenient for printing or sharing. Confirm that sensitive information is not included before uploading or sending the file.
Troubleshooting
The capture stops early
The page may use an inner scroll container or require a visible-area/scrollable-element mode. Select the panel itself, or try an extension that advertises nested-scroll handling such as FullPage Capture or GetFullPage. If the page is infinite-scroll, stop loading at a defined point and capture the loaded state.
Sections are duplicated or missing
Sticky navigation, animations and layout shifts can confuse stitching. Wait for movement to stop, close overlays, disable animated content if the site offers that option, and recapture. A region capture can avoid a moving header.
Images are blank
Lazy-loaded assets may not have entered the viewport, or the site may block extension access. Scroll through the page first, wait for images to appear, then retry. If the image requires authentication, ensure the capture runs in the same signed-in tab and that your organization permits the extension.

An iframe is empty
Cross-origin frames and embedded applications can restrict capture. FullPage Capture advertises iframe capture, but behavior still depends on the site’s security policy. Try capturing the iframe’s own URL, if permitted, or use a region capture of the rendered area.

Availability may differ by browser, region, managed-device policy or listing changes. Use the vendor’s official page, verify the browser version, and do not install an unofficial copy with a similar name.
The output is too large to open
Very long pages can exceed image-editor or PDF limits. Capture a defined region, export in sections, or use the extension’s large-capture behavior; GoFullPage’s Firefox listing says very large captures may be split into images. Lowering display scale or choosing JPEG can reduce file size, but review text legibility.
Performance, reliability and cost considerations
Long screenshots are constrained by the page as much as by the extension. A page with thousands of nodes, animated ads, video, canvas content or continuous network requests takes longer and is more likely to shift while stitching. Capture after the final state is visible, close unrelated tabs, and keep enough memory available for the resulting bitmap. For repeatable documentation, record the URL, browser version, extension version and whether you were signed in.

Which format is best for text?
