GoFullPage is the best starting point for most Chrome, Edge, and Firefox users who need a one-click screenshot of an entire webpage. Its published FAQ specifically addresses inner scrollable areas, iframes, and framesets—common reasons ordinary viewport screenshots are incomplete. Firefox users should first try the browser’s built-in Screenshots tool, while GoFullScreenshot and GetFullPage are stronger choices when local processing, export controls, or capture timing matter. Choose Full Page Screenshot when annotation, OCR, or redaction is the main requirement.

Which full-page screenshot extension should you install?

The right choice depends less on the browser than on what the page contains and what you need to do with the image afterward. A simple article may work with a native browser command. A web app with nested scrolling, sticky navigation, or frames needs an extension that can stitch more intelligently. Sensitive material may require browser-local processing, while a review workflow may depend on OCR, blur, arrows, or PDF export.

Tool Best fit Documented strengths Important caveats
GoFullPage General-purpose capture across browsers Available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox; handles inner scrollable elements, iframes, and framesets according to its FAQ; unlimited screenshots are described as free by the vendor Very large captures can be split into multiple images, and protected pages may still resist capture
GoFullScreenshot Chromium users who want local processing Full-page, visible-area, and selected-area modes; stitching, editing, and redaction occur in the browser Chrome-protected pages and some local output formats have documented limits
Full Page Screenshot Annotation-heavy work Arrows, shapes, text, blur or pixelation, redaction, OCR, watermarking, and PNG, JPG, or PDF export are listed in its Chrome Web Store description Verify current permissions and browser coverage in the store listing before installing
GetFullPage Configurable exports and privacy-conscious captures PNG, JPEG, and PDF; smart page splitting; capture delays; controls for fixed or sticky elements; optional local history; browser-local processing Availability and features can change as store versions are updated
Firefox Screenshots Firefox users who do not want an add-on Mozilla documents visible-area and full-page capture with save or copy options Fewer editing and sharing features than dedicated extensions

Best overall: GoFullPage

GoFullPage is the broadest recommendation when you use more than one browser or capture pages that contain nested scroll regions. Its official FAQ says it can identify inner scrollable elements, enter iframes and framesets, and create one image of the page being viewed. The vendor also states that screenshots are unlimited and free. Those claims describe the vendor’s current materials, not a guarantee that every protected or unusually coded page will work.

Best for local, in-browser handling: GoFullScreenshot

GoFullScreenshot documents a workflow in which stitching, redaction, and editing happen entirely inside the browser. The resulting capture remains on your machine unless you choose to share it. That is useful for internal dashboards, customer records, or unreleased designs where uploading the page to a remote service is undesirable. Test it against Chrome-protected pages and your required output format before standardizing on it.

Best for markup, OCR, and redaction: Full Page Screenshot

Choose Full Page Screenshot when the screenshot is also a review document. Its store listing describes OCR, blur or pixelation, redaction, annotations, watermarking, and PNG, JPG, and PDF export. Check the extension’s current permission request and supported browsers at installation time; store listings can change.

Best for export controls: GetFullPage

GetFullPage is a practical option when you need to control how a long capture is divided or when fixed elements must be treated differently. Its documented options include delays, smart page splitting, fixed and sticky-element controls, several image formats, PDF, and optional local history. Because extension capabilities can change between releases, confirm the controls you need in the current store version.

Best no-install option in Firefox: Firefox Screenshots

Mozilla’s support documentation says Firefox can capture either the visible part of a page or the full page, then save or copy the result. Start there if you only need a straightforward image and do not need OCR, redaction, or specialized stitching. Install an extension only when the native result misses content or lacks the required export controls.

How to capture an entire webpage in Chrome

  1. Open the target page. Wait for the page’s main content and images to finish loading. If the page loads content only after scrolling, scroll through it once before capturing.
  2. Install one extension from the Chrome Web Store. For a general workflow, start with GoFullPage. Review the current publisher, permissions, and recent version information before selecting Add to Chrome.
  3. Pin the extension. Select the Extensions puzzle-piece button, locate the extension, and choose the pin icon so the capture control is visible.
  4. Start a full-page capture. Select the extension icon and choose its full-page command. The extension will scroll and stitch the viewport sections; do not interact with the tab until it finishes.
  5. Inspect the result at 100% zoom. Look for repeated headers, missing lazy-loaded images, seams, or content hidden inside an inner scroll area.
  6. Export in the format your workflow needs. PNG preserves crisp text, JPG creates smaller files, and PDF is convenient for documents or review packets when the extension supports it.

Chrome pages that need special handling

For a page with a nested message list, code pane, or other inner scrollbar, use an extension that explicitly supports inner scrollable elements, such as GoFullPage’s documented workflow. If a fixed header appears on every stitched segment, try the extension’s fixed or sticky-element option when available, or hide the header temporarily with the extension’s element controls. Chrome-protected pages and browser-internal pages can block extension capture; no extension can override every protection mechanism.

How to capture a full webpage in Edge

  1. Open the page in Microsoft Edge and let dynamic content settle.
  2. Use Edge’s Extensions menu to install and pin GoFullPage or another extension whose current listing confirms Edge support.
  3. Run the extension’s full-page command and leave the tab undisturbed while it scrolls and stitches.
  4. Check long captures for duplicated sticky controls and export to PNG, JPG, or PDF as appropriate.

Edge users should not assume that an extension’s Chrome listing guarantees identical behavior in every release. Confirm Edge availability in the publisher’s current materials and test one representative page before a team rollout.

How to capture a full webpage in Firefox

Use Firefox’s built-in tool first

  1. Open the page in Firefox.
  2. Open the page context menu and choose the Screenshots command.
  3. Select the option for the full page, then save or copy the image.

This is the lowest-friction route for ordinary documents. If the native result omits a nested scroll region or you need annotation, OCR, redaction, or advanced export, install an extension such as GoFullPage and repeat the capture.

What to check before choosing an extension

Browser and page structure

  • Confirm Chrome, Edge, or Firefox support in the current listing.
  • Test inner scrolling areas, iframes, and framesets if your site uses them.
  • Check whether sticky navigation, cookie dialogs, or floating chat controls obscure the page.

Output and editing

  • Use PNG for text-heavy screenshots where clarity matters.
  • Use JPG when a smaller file is more important than lossless detail.
  • Choose PDF when the recipient needs a document rather than an image.
  • Pick an annotation-focused tool if you need arrows, text, blur, pixelation, OCR, or redaction in the same workflow.

Privacy and permissions

Read the extension’s permission request and privacy description before capturing confidential pages. GoFullScreenshot and GetFullPage describe browser-local processing, which keeps the capture workflow on your machine unless you share the result. Local processing does not make a page safe to disclose: the extension still operates on the content visible in your browser, so use a separate browser profile for sensitive work and remove secrets from the page where possible.

Troubleshooting incomplete or broken captures

The screenshot stops before the bottom

Reload the page, wait for network activity to settle, and scroll through it once to trigger lazy-loaded content. For pages with nested scrollbars, use a tool that documents inner-scroll support. A page protected by login checks, bot detection, or browser restrictions may not be capturable by an extension.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Images are blank or repeated

Allow images to finish loading before starting. Disable aggressive ad or content blocking for that site temporarily, then retry. If the page replaces images while scrolling, capture after a manual pass through the entire document.

Sticky headers appear many times

Use the extension’s fixed or sticky-element control if provided. Otherwise hide the header for the capture, or use a tool with controls for fixed elements such as those documented by GetFullPage.

An iframe or embedded app is missing

Confirm that the frame has loaded and that the extension supports iframes or framesets. Cross-origin security and embedded application protections can still prevent a complete stitched image.

The file is too large to open

Very long pages can exceed image-editor or browser limits. Export in segments if the extension offers smart page splitting, choose JPG for a smaller file, or use PDF for a document-style result. GoFullPage’s materials warn that very large captures may be split into multiple images.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Text is unreadable after export

Capture at the page’s normal zoom, avoid repeatedly resizing the result, and use PNG for text-heavy pages. If you need searchable text, select a tool that documents OCR rather than relying on image-to-text software afterward.

When a browser extension is the wrong tool

Extensions are ideal for an occasional capture made while you are looking at a page. They are less convenient for scheduled jobs, bulk URLs, server-side rendering, or an automated pipeline. A screenshot API can also avoid maintaining browser profiles and extension permissions. For an API or AI-agent workflow, put ScreenshotNeo first on your shortlist: it removes common consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and provides an MCP server for AI clients.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. Each response identifies the page and billing result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an extension capture a page behind a login?

Usually only when the page is already open and the extension is permitted to access that tab. Bot checks, protected browser pages, cross-origin frames, and application security controls can still block parts of the result.

Why does a full-page screenshot contain duplicate content?

Fixed or sticky elements are redrawn during stitching. Use the extension’s fixed-element control, hide the element temporarily, or choose a tool with explicit sticky-element handling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I use PNG or JPG for a webpage screenshot?

PNG is generally better for small text and interface details; JPG is smaller when some compression is acceptable. Use PDF when the recipient needs a document-style file.

Is a browser extension suitable for capturing hundreds of URLs?

Not usually. Extensions are interactive and tied to a browser tab. Bulk or scheduled captures are better handled by an API such as ScreenshotNeo, which supports up to 100 URLs per call.
